Just wanting to know is next Sunday night's edition Toonheads "The Early Works Of Friz Freleng" an hour long special?
And I really wouldn't get my hopes up of seeing any Bosko cartoons for the next episode. :( :( :( :(

Friz supposedly directed three cartoons under Harman and Ising -- "Bosko In Dutch," "Shuffle off to Buffalo" and "Bosko's Picture Show" though he went uncredited as director (a practice H&I kept up until 1941). "Dutch " was the first of the three, and I'm sure we'd all like to get a fresh print of the last one, if for no other reason than to settle "That dirty (whatever)" controversy once and for all, but if they show any of the three, I would assume it's going to be "Shuffle."
If nothing else, I hope they at least show one of Friz' black and white cartoons and don't just start the show with "Beauty and the Beast" as if Freleng came on the lot directing color cartoons from the outset.

Sorry, dude, but if CN were going to slip in a Bosko cartoon, I don't think they'd do it in prime time. Maybe on LNB&W, after even the most devoted TTTP-er has given up on the show.

I think they should still show a Bosko cartoon directed by Friz. How are kids even gonna Bosko is black? They could just say he's an ape! There's nothing wrong with "Bosko in Dutch" either! They should also show a few of Freleng 1934 B&W Merrie Melodies too. "Shake Your Powder Puff" is one of his best B&W toons!

Well, I always thought Bosko was an apelike inkspot sort of thing, which is what Harman and Ising thought he was too before developing him into a black boy in the MGM years. the WB Bosko is, well, a Bosko. And I hope they do show a Bosko cartoon, or at least a B/W Merrie Melodie. I'm pretty sure we'll see "Billboard Frolics" and "I Haven't Got A Hat" as well, in the color department. I forget...did Friz ever do a Buddy cartoon toward the end of the series, or not?

Friz did three Buddy cartoons, but early in the series (when it was the greasy-haired Art Deco Buddy as opposed to the cap-wearing needs-a-comb Buddy that Hardaway and King later used):
Buddy the Gob
Buddy and Towser
Buddy's Trolley Troubles
The first probably features too many Chinese gags to make it onto the show, even though it was Friz' first "official" directing credit after returning to Warners from H-I's studio. But one of the other two could run without any problem

To this day, my best friend thought Bosko was a clown until I told him he was African American. I too agree, Bosko does look like a clown. I was taking a double take when I saw Bosko in the preview for "The Early Works of Friz Freleng". I hope they air Bosko!

Actually John (and all), Friz's official filmography from DePatie-Freleng made it quite clear that Friz was the undisputed director of the first two cartoons named ("Bosko In Dutch," "Shuffle off to Buffalo"). It also specified several others that he CO-DIRECTED with Hugh Harman ("Bosko's Picture Show" amongst them). We can consider this "from the horse's mouth".
And I'll go out a wee ways on a limb and admit that I personally speculate that his role on the 3 Van Buren Cubby Bear cartoons was significantly more than just as animator...

I could have sworn that Friz Freleng directed the very first LT/Bosko cartoon, "SINKIN IN THE BATHTUB"
Help me fellas, my mind is a blank..

Yep, Friz was an animator on "Sinkin' in the Bathtub". Almost all of the articles I've read about him mention that.

Friz was the ONLY CREDITED animator on "Sinkin' in the Bathtub"!!! With the temporary defection of Rollin 'Ham' Hamilton, Freleng had to fill his shoes too. Interestingly it has been stated that Hugh Harman and Rudy Ising also ANIMATED on it (besides directing it). Almost certainly Carmen 'Max' Maxwell worked on it as well, plus several others...
