“Watch and Hide”
A poem by "Spontaneous" Michael Zhao
3/27/2005
I met Janelle once before
Up by the Starbucks on Pinkton and Moore
T’was a Friday night I remember
For the sky was blue and grey with stars all a flutter
On my right stood me good friend Eamonn
Who looked like he’d just had five servings of steak and ten helpings of chocolate puddin
I asked he quietly if he knew the lass and he replied with great conviction
“That there is me girlfriend lad,”
“Don’t you be looking for no extra action!”
By my saints he scared me silly
I didn’t want to lose my hiney
So I withdrew with much sadness and guilt
Too ashamed to tell me friend how I really felt
And that there lad is the story of me life
Where in all pretty girls dance and fly
I dare only to watch and hide
