View Full Version : What video game is your favorite, quote-wise?

One of the main things I love about games like Chrono Trigger, Tales of Symphonia, and Sonic Adventure 2 is the script. They all have quotes that either teach a life-lesson, make you cry, make you laugh, or just make you say "Damn that Magus dude is AWESOME!" or "Damn that Lloyd's a sissy!" But of course, NO video game quotes beat the classic "All your base are belong to us".
Where's Resident Evil 4?

"Hmph...so it seems..."
"Oh yeah! We're going with my pimp-plan!"
"That is soo sad."
"Inferior Beings!"
"How does it... feel to be... defeated by... an inferior being?"
Tales of Symphonia of course.:D

It's a tie between Tales of Symphonia and Star Fox 64. ToS has great talking cut-scenes. They say stuff that really lets you get into the game. You can see how they interact with each other in everyday life, with hilarious moments, the Z-Button conversations, and all the good conversation moments. You can see how silly Lloyd and everyone else (except Kratos) are and that even though they are on a grand journey with the Chosen, everyone, including her, are all normal people.
Now, Star Fox 64 had great quotes at the bottom of the screen, like "Do a Barrel Rowl, Fox!". All those quotes were great. That's all I have to say on this one.
So, in conclusion, I guess my favorite video game, quote-wise, is Tales of Symphonia, with Star Fox 64 in very close behind.

Umm...why isn't Final Fantasy VI on that list?
Just take a look at Kefka's lines:
"Run run or you'll be well done!!!"
"Mr. Thou! Hurry up! We're leaving!"
"Wait, he says! What do I look like? A waiter?"

Hmm.... that quote seems familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. What part is it from?

None of those.
For pure quotable goodness, you have to give it Sam and Max: Hit the Road for the PC.
******
Sam: My little buddy here needs to use the facilities.
Max: Facilities be damned! I need a bathroom!
******
Sam: "Where should I put this thing so that it doesn't hurt anyone we know
or care about?"
Max:"Out the window, Sam. There's nobody but strangers out there."
******
Sam: "Well, that was a pleasantly understated credits sequence."
Max: "I enjoyed the cheesy retro ambience."
Sam: "What the hell are you talking about, Max?"
******
Max: "I'll miss the way he smelt like a bag of damp hamster shavings. Just like Grandpa."
******
There are more, like the whole game is quotable, but I am getting tired. :)

Full Throttle
"Somebody's ambushing the Polecats! Whatever will we do?!"
Selecting using your mouth (normally to 'talk to') on the piano: "I have a hard enough time with my hands"
"I'm selling these fine leather jackets" (that entire exchange is priceless!! LA at their very BEST writing!"
"I'll call you names"
...I could go on for ever. If you haven't played Full Throttle and you like point & click adventure games or humor in your games, or Mark Hamill in anything, you have to check this game out. It's teh best.
Also some of the older WWF games (I love you Player Two! Player One's got skeeeeeeeeelz!!!)

It's pretty difficult to find that game now. Last I checked, it was bundled with the third volume of LucasArts archives but that was years ago.
I only played the demo of that game and loved it. I only wish I could find the full version for it.

Resident Evil 1 ( the opening is like a total hoax by teens...oh wait. )
Directors Cut:
"Here take these flame rounds, it's especially useful to kill Living Things"
"I'll check the dining room again"
Metal Gear Solid:
"Sweet Jesus" :D
Tales of Symphonia:
"Collette..cure for poison''
"what? I'm not poisoned?"
"No..I mean..me"

Halo 2:
Almost all of Sgt. Johnson's lines:
"Hey, Bastards! Konck Knock."
Or
"The Lord works in mystrious(sp) ways, but not today!"..."If your God is love, then you can call me Cupid." ( Ladies like cut scene under Legendary)
Or
"Dear Humanity... we regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!"
Or
MC: "You told me there wouldn't be any cameras."
Johnson: "You told me you were gonna wear something nice!"
(I could go on.)

I like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, as Bowser is just hilarious in that game. I can't pick any quotes up off by heart, but I'm sure there were loads. From the given list though... probably either Animal Crossing or Star Fox 64, some of the stuff on those games are really funny.

I enjoy WWF Smackdown! JBI commentary just because it's so poorly done.

Tazz: "Tonight we'll be having a heck of a match with Raven and Tazz for the Hardcore Title!"

Full Throttle ruled, indeed.
"I'm not puttin' my lips on that."
Classic.
For my money, though, The Secret Of Monkey Island wins with both hands tied behind it's three-headed-monkey-back.
A rather crude list is here (http://www.scummbar.com/games/index.php?game=1&sub=info&todo=15), but it should capture the essence of the quotes pretty well.

How nobody can think that Fawful from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is the most quotable (in a bizarre sort of way) character in video game history, besides me, is amazing.

Earthbound has some really funny qoutes, and its just fun to read normal conversations in the game because the game hardly taskes itself seriously. One of my favorite moment is when The Fly from the future (scuse me for forgetting names I haven't played the game in some time) is in your friends house:
Friend's Dad: OH MY GOD IS THAT A DUNG BEETLE!!!
Amd then kills him, and then after all that if you talk to him again he says something about how your Dad make them go broke by borrowing so much money and he would like you to leave.

The voice actor was good, but as far as the quotes themselves go, I think that FT and MI are pretty close. Great writers, in other words.
By the way, you did know that Ben's voice actor died recently, didn't you? That was a great loss.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is quote-worthy, but the main problem with it's quotes is that the best sutff comes up in long soliloquys... which doesn't translate for single lines. Still, there are some good lines:
"Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to me? Your country, or your old mentor? The mission, or your beliefs? Your duty to your unit? Or your personal feelings?"
-The Boss.
"Come Jack. Let's make this the greatest ten minutes of our lives."
-The Boss.
"This world is one of sadness. Battle brings death. Death brings sorrow... Now you will know the sorrow of those whose lives you have ended."
-The Sorrow.
"Does this pantywaist know what he's doing?"
-AC-130A Loadmaster (Virtuos Mission movie).
"Spread your wings and fly! God be with you!"
-Major Zero
"I have to find my own weapons and equipment? Whose crazy idea was this
anyway?"
-Snake
And my personal favorite. I also happen to think it sounds cooler in Japanese, but that's just me (Since I saw the japanese trailer):
"I raised you. I loved you. I've given you weapons, taught you techniques, endowed you with knowledge. There is nothing more for me to give you. All that's left for you to take is my life, by your own hand. One must die and one must live. No victory, no defeat. The survivor will carry on the fight. It is our destiny... The one who survives will inherit the title of Boss. And the one who inherits the title of Boss will face an existence of endless battle."
-The Boss.
