One of the worst "X-Men: The Animated Series" episodes ever.

This episode was entertaining. I don't think it was one of the worst episode. The fairy tale plot was a nice touch. I like concept because it added flavor to the typical X-Men versus Magneto angle. The animation was okay. I feel the producers were trying to be creative. The problem solving aspect of this episode is what I enjoy the most. Jubilee kept her composure, and she got the kids out safely.

It is nice to see the X-Men let Jean out of that locked closet after season three.

It's nice to see Jubilee get an episode of her own. I also liked how she handled the situation, because as fairy-tale Jubilee said "getting out of tight spots is what she does".

She also finally earned her stripes at the end of this episode. It sure took the Prof. long enough to give 'em to her, didn't it?

This episode airs today. It is bad. Probably the worst of the entire series. I have to wonder why it was told... it accompalishes nothing, other than embrassing the viewer.

It's also the first episode to feature the revamped designs.

It wasn't a completely horrible episode but it did reek of "filler." There were a couple good ideas but this seemed to be that one episode that almost every cartoon does where it adds nothing to the series at all and it essentially a waste in the end.

Aside from the new designs didn't this episode introduce that horrible new voice actor for Gambit?

In case anyone didn't know, this episode was an homage to a rightly classic issue of the old X-Men comic entitled "Kitty's Fairy Tale." The story is completely different, but you can see where the inspiration came from.

You wouldn't happen to have more information on this story would you? I remember reading this story years ago and I can't believe I didn't make the connection until just now. An issue number and a general breakdown of the story - maybe even some cover art - would be extremely helpful.

It was Uncanny X-Men #153. Kitty tells little Illyana Rasputin (before she got kidnapped and aged to 13 by demons) a bedtime story. The X-Men play different parts in the story. The bedtime story sort of riffs on the Dark Phoenix Saga a little, but plays it as a fairytale in which the good guys win. The cast for the fairy tale are:

Kitty Pryde as Pirate Kitty
Peter Rasputin as Colossus, her true love
Scott Summers as the Noble Prince
Charles Xavier as the Wizard
Ororo Munroe as the Genie
Kurt Wagner as a Bamf (sort of an elf-like creature)
Logan as the Fiend with No Name
the SR-71 Blackbird as Lockheed the Dragon (before there actually was a Lockheed the Dragon)
Jean Grey as the Enchanted Princess

Since the X-Men cartoon had a completely different cast, they wrote a new fairy tale for the show and created a new situation in which Jubilee could tell it to some kids.

This does sound really familar. If I've read this it would have been years ago or just read it recently in a trade collection if it's out. I have a feeling I read this while going through some of Marvel's Essentials collections but I may have to search this out again. Thanks alot for the info. It's really neat to find out that so many episodes of this cartoon have a history in the comics.

And this episode isn't so bad...
