Is there spell check anywhere in this program? I see a lot of icons above me, but, I do not know if any of them is spell check? I guess one of the mods can answer, I suppose I should keep a dictionary around all the time, but if it is somewhere here..I will use it...I try to catch the words, and do edit, often. but sometimes I miss with my spelling..thank you for taking the time to read this..I appreciate any help given...Stuart

There is no spell check, at least that I am aware of, but you can use google to suggest the correct spelling of words, or you can give dictionary.com a try. That's what I use when I need a quick reference.

Or if it's really a concern for you, you could always type your post up in MS Word or another word processing program, run spellcheck, and then copy and paste your corrected post onto your web browser. I really don't know that it's worth the trouble, though-- you managed your above post without a single spelling error that I could catch.

As I recall, there was some talk of adding a spellchecker the last time there was a major upgrade to the forum's vBulletin software, but the Powers That Be determined that it would add too much to bandwidth costs and loading times (for our poor benighted friends still suffering on dialup) to be a worth it. I can't say I disagree with them-- it would be nice, but nobody around here is going to jump down your throat for a typo or two, either.

...says the man who got a gig copy-editing the DKA Lost Chapters because SJJ got tired of his anal-retentive nitpicking cluttering the talkback thread. (-:

I remember the software originally had a spell check wayyy back in 2001. It was removed.. I don't know whether it was because of an upgrade or because it was just a drain... but TZ once had it.. I must admit I don't miss it - despite all my spelling errors.

Now if I can just get Mynd to personally spell check my posts as well as DKA... and then if he can backcheck the 11,000.. yes I would be king.

As I recall, it was a feature that turned from free to something you had to pay for. And since it didn't seem many even paid attention to it, it was trashed.

-BBI'll try to keep a dictionary next to the computer...they still use them, but I type--(keyboard, note I use an outmoded term) so quickly, I may rarely use it, but, these suggestions, and updates, on spell check are interesting and informative..I appreciate the time people went to write them...I guess it is not the worst thing if you spell a word rong... You can always have another browser window open (with say an email client with a spellcheck), paste the work into there, check it and paste it back. I think the Vbulletin board USED to have a small grumble about such copy and pasting, but I think the last update cleared it.

Just another method to use if it helps!

A server side solution would make everyone miserable.

I do know of a great Spell Check program for Internet Explorer that's free for personal use.

http://www.iespell.com/

There is a similar one for FireFox, but I'm not sold on it yet so I'll only mention it's called Spellbound.

As always, use at your own risk, and it's a good idea to always check for viruses and spyware when installing any new software.

And if any one uses these, please let the rest of us know how it works out for you.

Aqua, I was just going to mention this program - it's great! ;) It will allow you to spell check what you've typed on any online form or message board.

One note: If you are running an older version of ieSpell, be sure to upgrade to the latest version (01/22/05), as previous versions of the program did not support the vBulletin upgrades that were done to Toon Zone a while ago.
