I read the preview in Shonen Jump and I loved it. I want to buy the graphic novel very badly! :anime:

The French translation has been done for years now. Huh!!

I thought the English translation would have been done first.

That's why I'm waiting before I buy it. I have a hard time believing that VIZ isn't going to censor it.

I've seen lots of censorship in the titles in there Shonen Jump label. Example Mr. Popo's lips being censored.

The censorship is in the graphic novels too.

Anything that is censored in the magazine is also usually censored in the GN's. As has been seen with DBZ and Shaman King among others. And don't even get me started with transltions...

So, they also changed Mr. Satan to Hercule in the graphic novels too? Jeez...

Not in French. His name is kept as Mr. Satan.

FUNimation can keep Mr. Satan's name in the DVD releases but Viz can't keep his name in the graphic novel releases? What's the deal?

I'm not totally sure about this but I don't believe Viz is going to bother censoring a series that doesn't run in Shonen Jump and has no fanbase with children here in the US. I have yet to read any of the other non SJ GNs except the first 8 Dragon Ball GNs so I could be wrong.

At least Viz was able to keep reference to Mr. Satan ("Called Mr. Satan in the original").

The only occurance where a graphic novel kept in something that the magazine didn't was Naruto Vol. 1, Naruto's Sexy no Jutsu/Ninja Centerfold.

Yeah, hopefully the fact it doesn't run in the magazine will save it from censorship. There's some smoking and even a little underage drinking, plus panty gags and other stuff that might not fly there but are integral to the story.

What's supposed to be missing again?

Anyhow, the ciggarette in HnG was in the SJ, but removed for the GN.

As Toriyama's( creator of DB/Z) first weekly series, Dr. Slump became a huge commercial success. It was popular from the beginning and made into a anime series as fast as possible. Slump, about a goofy scientist and his inventions including a hyper-active robot named Arale

Wrong his name is Hurcule Satan in the DVDs which was a weak cover up for calling him Hercule in the first few uncut releases.

A few minor edits (Like that Viz does) really sould not bother us. I mean if 95% or nore is in tact (Which is the case with most viz manga) I am fine with it.

They still use him as Satan, don't they?

They still use him as Satan, don't they? In the dub, it's Hercule Satan (in the edited TV dub, it's Hercule Savage, according to Cartoon Network), in the sub, it's just Mr. Satan.

Well, as long as they retain Satan in the dub on the DVDs, I'm cool with that!

I would wather spend my money on the hundreds of titles that are 100% in tact. A manga with a teen rating can't have Mr. Satan's real name or Mr. Popo's lips?

Well it bothers me. I can't STAND when companies edit manga. Namely the art.
