Think about it. "HA ha!"
Hey, great idea! I hope someone with l33ter image skills than I takes a whack at this.

That IS a great idea! The problem with a lot of the "celebrity" smilies is that they don't really have a specific emotion attached to them, but everybody has had a post or two that could stand to be punctuated with a trademark Nelson laugh.

I think that's a good idea.
I tried to make a D'oh! smillie a while back. These two turned out half ok, nearly, kind of big though.
Makes me appreciate whoever did the Zim and the others.

That's not too bad.
I tried to make one myself, and believe me, you don't want to see it. (It's a monster!)
Working with so few pixels is challenging.
My first attempt at an emoticon:

Just curious at the moment here, but in what situations would a Nelson "ha ha" be appropriate?

Yeah, you're right.
In The Simpsons, Nelson is a character that makes fun of others' misfortune. I don't think we want to represent that at Toon Zone. In other words, do you think it is wise for posters to make fun of others' posts?

OK, seriously. On the show Nelson is funny but not malicious. The situations he comes out in are obviously embarassing, and the "Ha-ha" breaks the tension, it doesn't add to it. I just find myself using "Ha-ha" in ribbing among friends a lot, so it'd be fun to have a smilie for it.

This is a char smilie I think is actually worth it. The others are nice but outside of zim, gir, and the mooninites I don't see alot of uses.
 :rolleyes2
I just noticed there are 2 roll eye smilies. Any reason why?

I gotta agree with Toonmaster. To me Nelson's "haha" always seemed to be more laughing at another's misfortune than for the purpose breaking tension.

It really depends...
My cat got hit in the head by a ladder and fell into the open man-hole and was eaten by a crocodile!http://tfarm.sdf1.org/b/nelsonsmilie.png
That's wrong.
After I bought the Incredibles DVD, some lady tripped and fell into a pile of underwear!http://tfarm.sdf1.org/b/nelsonsmilie.png
That's kind of wrong too, but Nelson-level.
As with  it can be interpretted different ways; a sarcastic slap in the face, or a jolly good time.
That and I can't see people taking Nelson seriously. I mean...he's Nelson. He's from the Simpsons. Who takes anything from that show seriously?
Now who wants to animate a "Ha! Ha!" above his head that disappears. :D

Nelson's "Ha-ha!" is mocking. It should be used sparingly, and generally not to make comment about other members.
I don't know if it works all that well without the finger pointing either.
I think a "D'oh!" emoticon would be a superior addition to stock smilies, if someone with talent could make one. It denotes disappointment and acknowledges mistakes. It's self effacing nature doesn't lend itself well to attack.
I wonder if a "Hmmmmmm" by Marge could be made into a good smilie.
Or a Jay Sherman "It stinks!"

I also think a Homer "D'oh" smilie woule be much more useful, and be applicable in many more situations. I know I've had plenty of "D'oh" moments.
The "Nelson" smiley shall not be used, unless it's one of the following:
1.- Someone gets "WIDE LOAD" tatooed on his butt.
2.- Someone is revealed to have a stamp collection.
3.- Someone's car gets crashed by a sunshpere filled with wigs.

Well, I was envisioning a Nelson smiley more being directed at faceless corporations or fictional characters, i.e. "I enjoyed watching Scott Tenorman eat his parents. :Nelson:"
But now that I think about it, it really does have a lot of potential for abuse.
Wow. While we're at it why don't we make a rule against FUN?

*DISCLAIMER* Of course, I'm kidding. My position is, eh, I'm not a fan. But Nelson wouldn't hurt. Let 'em have the dang smiley. Meantime, it's late, and this was a good idea five minutes ago. Humor me.
Hey, kids! Let's see how many times we can have a stick-up-the-butt about emoticons! Are you ready for some fun-fun-FUN? Well, forget it. We don't have a Barney smiley. But we do have THESE evil things which promote COMMUNISM. Poster beware!
:gir: Okay, there are people who do stuff related to furries on this board. Furry art, furry cons, and even people who dress in furry costumes. Are we going to hurt their feelings by posting this every time we reference a furry? HUH?
Ex: Heh, you must be one of those guys that wears an anthropomorphic wolf costume with oddly-placed flaps. :gir:
:nurse: Helloooooooo, sexism! So, what is this trying to say, here? It's alright to have a subservient female in a traditional female career wearing a provactive dress as a symbol of EMOTION? I mean, what could we possibly be implying there?
Ex: Hey, did you see guinavere agree with that lame mod opinion? :nurse:
:brak: A mockery to the struggling animators everywhere.
Ex: Hey, Matt, I hear you're making an unpopular Flash toon! :brak:
:twoshoes: Heh, I'm not even going here.
:narf: When Rob Paulsen came up with the voice for Pinky, he wanted a character who would neither offend the British, nor people with speech impediments. So, he created a character that offended both.
Ex: Hah! SJJ just got his two front teeth knocked out today. :narf:
And finally, the worst offender:
:p Momma always said that I should never stick my tongue out at people. Even if I was just kidding. Consequently, I developed quite a taste for antibacterial Dial. But I have moved past that stage in my life. Why should I have to subject myself to the unimaginative slurs of those who are not savvy enough to use anything but the basic smilies?
Ex: lol u r silly. :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p
In conclusion, I hate you all.
I need a hug.

I need a hug. Aww... I'm not really a huggy person. But unless I'm totally wrong, Twage seems a fun-luvin' type of guy.
Back to some sort of seriousness... the Simpsons are too darn ugly for me to use as a smilie. Ever.

(New rule. Each post must contain at least one superfluous smiley. Like that one.)

See? I don't like that. So it stands to reason that nobody else does.
By the way, Web Nazi Emoticon has a worse comb-over than the real guy. Huh...

How did you know that I am the King of Spain?Hail to the king, baby!
You guys are some of the wettest blankets I've ever met.!
For me being wet is just staying in character, but I did go to the trouble of trying to make one even. The cleaned up version is below.
It's not like you're prevented from using other smilies with the "IMG" tag, but it's probably better some with flame potential aren't put on the list of stock smilies. When you put something on the list it's like saying "go ahead and punctuate your remarks with these." I just don't know if it's something that should be put right at everyones fingertips.
I like the idea of character smilies that actually express something.
It's too bad that most character smilies don't really say anything.
The Pinky smilie is nice, but I don't really read it as "NARF!" when I see it. Frankly, I find it hard to imagine how you would illustrate Narf!
A wolf smilie however could illustrate a wolfish reaction using an eye-pop and having it's tongue hanging out.
Working on these I noticed most character catch phrases need some sort of gesture for them to be understood clearly.
I think my "D'oh!" work ok as they are, but would be more clear with if I had shown him with his hand to his forehead.
A Homer "Woo Hoo!" would only look like a "Ooooo!" unless he had at least one arm raised.
I think my "Ha-ha!" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Aquadementia/haha.gif reads as "Ha-ha!" better and not just "Nelson" because he's pointing. (although he doesn't look as happy as the others)
