View Full Version : A question about Irma and Martin for those who read W.I.T.C.H books.

I only know of the W.I.T.C.H vaugley threw some translated summaries I have found on the net, but in it alot of different sources state dfferent things about these these two characters and their relationship. Some sources say they are friends and other's say that she hates the guy and some say they have a "complicated" relationship of course considering I never read any of the books myself I don't know who's word to take as fact.
Then their was the episode Divide and Conquer and it only raised more questions, before he seemed to annoy Irma greatly but in this episode when he was fawning over that new girl she was obviously jealous. From watching replace her pictures in her locker to that converstion she and her friends were having. the rest of them were all talking about how fake the girl was but she was busy ranting about how Martin wasn't singing to her at night anymore, she was off on her own tirade. Lastly when they arrived at the ski lodge she went out of her way to meet him and the way she said hi gave off the impresion she was trying to hard. Given all of this one would get the idea that the interest isn't completely one sided and that Irma herself isn't really sure How does this compare to the books.
One last thing in an earlier post one poster said that in the Birthday episode that Martin was coming on to Hay Lin I must have missed that so can someone tell is this true.

Interesting... I always wondered why they were even together in the first place. The show hasn't got into how they got together, or if they were together before the show started.
I'd answer if I actually read the books myself, too. Anyone willing to help?

Their relationship is more complicated than say Will x Matt where the feelings are pretty obvious to one another.
In the comics (and books, I assume; never read them) Martin is constantly making passes at Irma who keeps on rejecting him and brushing him off (but in the semi-friendly way, not really like a snob would). After she creates an Astral Drop to take her place on Earth while the girls go to rescue Taranee who was captured by Cedric, her Astral Drop agrees to go on a "date" with Martin, much to Irma's distress. During that event, she decides he isn't really that dorky like she thought and he is a pretty good guy, but she still doesn't 'like like' him yet.
In the show it appears even though Irma rejects Martin's feelings, she has grown fond of it and gets annoyed when he starts paying attention to the other girl instead of her (maybe she does like him ;) )
I haven't read passed the Meridian storyline yet so someone else might be able to explain more.

Blood Majin summed it up pretty well. I've got all the comics through issue 31 (with 32 and 33 on their way). Irma and Martin are friends and that's it. There's even one instance in the third storyline where there's another girl chasing Martin and Irma thinks it's funny. At least, that's the way I remember it. My comics are back at school while I'm home on spring break, so I can't double check.
As for how I explain Irma's attitude in this episode, all I can say is she's an attention wh... Wait, I dunno if I can say that here. She's an attention lover. She's upset to no longer be the one getting the attention, even if she doesn't return Martin's feelings.

Thanks for the information and things could get more interesting in the show if Framed really is an adaption of the fifth book.

Well the most recent episode Stop the Presses seems to have added a whole new layer onto to the complexity of their relationship. I would have agreed to saying that her apparent jealousy in Divide and Conquer was a one episode thing but after seeing this episode I am not so sure. It definately seems like the writers are going somewhere with this in developing their realationship, they definately aren't an item but you can't say she hates him. Personally I find this kind of devolopment more satisfying than the way most shows develop couples. You know what I'm talking about where one character sees someone for the firt time is instantly in love and spends a season trying to confess and at the last minute said object of affection admitts he always loved her to.
This form of coupling really bugs me, what is going on now is much better and realistic. A person who at first doesn't like someone much but then as time passes by gets to know them better and gradually begins to like them. This is the kind of character development that makes for a good story.

There is something bugging me. In ALL official European W.I.T.C.H. sites and those of Mexico and Brazil say Irma's favorite subject is geography. But both in the USA and the UK Irma's favorite subject is art! Quite odd if we know she can't draw, and miss Warton isn't impressed by Irma's pictures at all. Shortly, Irma hates art. Can someone give me an explanation to that?

Maybe they got it confused with Hay Lin's?

Martin,I wondered the same thing. I didn't know that her favorite subject was geography, but I know she doesn't like art. That's Hay Lin's thing. I live in the USA so I have to deal with all their mistakes.
I also have some questions about the magazines. I don't get the comics(I know, it stinks for me) but I 'm getting the Graphic Novels. I'm just curious about a couple of things.
1. How many issues have come out at the most and how long do you have to wait for the next issue?
2. How many sagas are there?
3. I know that the Philippines sells the comics in English, and I was wondering if you could buy them in the United States:confused:
If someone could answer these, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!:D

Don't quote me on this, but I believe...
1. How many issues have come out at the most and how long do you have to wait for the next issue?
Around 50 I think, and they come out monthly
2. How many sagas are there?
1 - 12 is Meridian, 13 - 24 is Nerissa, 25 - 36 is Orube, 37+ I have no idea
3. I know that the Philippines sells the comics in English, and I was wondering if you could buy them in the United States
Stores? I have no idea, but you can find them on E-Bay. I believe the English release is a year behind the Itallian one.

This is all interesting, but I still have't been able to see the Birthday episode with Will in which one person said Martin was coming on to Hay Lin can someone who has seen the episode tell me if it is true.

Hmmm.... I can't seem to find it on ebay. Help please.:D
I don't think he was coming on to Hay Lin. He was just asking what's up and he just caught Hay Lin off guard. What is up nowdays! Some boys and girls can't even say hello without giving people the wrong idea. Besides, his heart "belongs" to Irma.;)

You can find them at this Ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com/TOYMANILA-HOBBY-SHOP_DOLLS_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm), however their store is closed for a couple days while they restock so check back this weekend for the comics. I should warn you though, shipping can take up to a month so try not to get too excited. ;)

Here are my answers:
1. How many issues have come out at the most and how long do you have to wait for the next issue?
Blood Majin has answered it already, number 51 is upcoming. Because of the jubilee number 50 the layout of the Italian official site has been changed completely. Over here in the Netherlands Witch arrives to subscribers at Friday or Saturday in the end of the second week of the month.
2. How many sagas are there?
Four, and the fifth has begun. The global names of the Sagas are named as follows (at least on my website):
1. The Meridian chronicles
2. Nerissa
3. Arkhanta
Number 4. will be called Endarno.
The name of the fifth Saga depends on the development of the Italian issues.

Hyperion books for children sells the graphical novels as "collector's editions, a must for any Witch fan". The price of $ 4.99 can be called from "just right" to "cheap".
In comparison: In the Netherlands there is also the "Verzamelstrip" (Collection comic), a paperback. It contains five stories each, and the price is € 9.95 (today $ 12.54)
A graphic novel contains only two stories, so 9.95/5 = 1.99, and 1.99 x 2 = € 3.98 for two stories.
€ 3.98 makes $ 5.02. As you see, your mum saves three cents.
For one monthly issue I pay € 3.65 ($ 4.60). In Italy they pay € 3.75 ($ 4.73) per issue. Of course those issues contain something more like ads, articles, a horoscope and letters of fans.
I hope you can make her change her mind with this knowledge.

Thanks, I'll get back to her on that.;) I also have two more questions that I thought of today while looking at the graphic novel.
1. When Vathek was making those physic beams go toward Will at the Halloween dance, what was he really trying to do? Kill her, control her mind, or what?
2. Also I'm confused to which of Hay Lin's parents has Yan Lin as their mother. From the graphic novel, her dad was talking to Yan Lin about taking her medicine and Yan Lin said "Once I was the one who spoon-fed you young man." and the doctor told him that there was nothing he could really do for his mother.
On the Four Dragons, Hay Lin's mom said that Yan Lin used to tell her a different Chinese legend every night when she was little. Who is Yan Lin really the parent of?

Your questions surprised me for a bit, but they are important indeed.
1. On the beginning it was already clear that Cedric intended to finish Will off. At the party he ordered Vathek to take Will for his account. At the end it's more clear, as you see Vathek shoots beams from his eyes towards Will. And what about Irma and Hay Lin when he grabbed both of them in the gym. Cedric ordered him to kill them slowly and painfully. Cruel!
2. Hey! You discovered a goof! This will be added in the next update of my site. The page where it will come is still only available in Dutch, but a translation will follow.
Important to know is that in the Dutch edition the doctor doesn't mention the family relationship between mr. Lin and Yan Lin at all!
By the way: I still like her reaction when mr. Lin stated the medicine tasted well.
"Oh yes? Why isn't it on the menu then?" I believe many children would love to have a grandmother or -father having such a feeling for humour.
For your information: The pictures you refer to will be encoded for a quick search. The first one (Mr. Lin-Yan Lin; the Disappearance) will be 2.20.3 (international) and 2.28.3 (Dutch) and the second one (Mrs. Lin; the Four Dragons) will be 9.5.4 (international) and 9.13.4 (Dutch).
Because the graphic novels contain two stories and The Disappearance has an even storynumber, you should distract 60 from the real page number in the novel at first, followed by the number of pages who go beforehand of the very first page of the first story in the book. So "The Power of Five" starts at page 1.
The Halloween picture you refer to has the codes 1.34.3 (international) and 1.38.3 (Dutch). From issue 16 the Dutch code goes along with the international code. That's because the directors left the page numbers away in the magazines to make it less costly publishing the collection comics.
If you have more questions, just ask them. I'll do my best to answer them.

I'm wondering if there are signs of Irma's verocious appetite. Eating is a lust to her.
And what about Taranees brother Peter? Will we see him in the show?
