American Idol Recap

I'm amazed at how into this show I am... particularly because my natural inclination is to not be.

I love music. I love hearing good voices. I love seeing good performances. Granted, there are a number of times when you just don't get that out of AI... but when you do, man. Fantasia's rendition of Summertime last season? Brought a tear to my eye. I wasn't even rooting for her, but you've really got to give credit where credit is due. She was completely into that song and she brought the audience with her.

This season? I have my favorites. (Bo Bice. Nikko Smith. Nadia. Jessica Sierra... with Anwar and Carrie Underwood being runnerups)

Bo just rocks. So does Nadia. Plain and simple. They're very consistent and my eyes are on that screen when they're performing. Nikko and Jessica can nail a performance. They're a little less consistent, but still entertaining. I enjoy Anwar's voice and renditions, but he has this really creepy look that he gives every now and again. The others, some of them are talented, but they just don't do it for me. Anthony Federov has a fantastic voice, but he bores me to tears. I've never been into the type of music he excels at. Mikelah annoys the heck out of me... and Mario looks like Fez. (Although he gets 2 extra points for being from the Bronx)

I'm particularly disappointed in Constantine. I was really hoping he was going to have a good voice on him. He doesn't have a lot of range. He rockish wails are at a completely different pitch from what he's singing in the rest of the songs. Don't get me wrong, he's nice eye candy... but eye candy only gets you so far. His seduction of the camera was novel at first... and it's now beginning to wear thin. I must admit, I do marvel at his ability to find the camera every single time. Anyway, he's probably going to be around for a bit. I'll just hope he doesn't sing anymore songs I have a fondness for.

Enough rambling outta me. Who else has this particular guilty pleasure and who are you rooting for/against?

Constantine's latest performance was VERY bad. I was surprised at the judges for not giving him more heat about it. I think they've been relatively nice to him for the whole time. The other "rocker" guy is also overrated, but I don't see anything particularly wrong with him.

Mikhela's performance last night was also atrocious, and I'm surprised Simon was the only one who caught her on it. (I think I'm thinking of the right person.) So what if she took a risk by singing Streisand? The song choice was horrible no matter how "risky" it was. Her voice simply can't go that low and sound good. Paula is always a benign nothing of a judge, but I was surprised that Randy went so easy on her.

I'm still rooting for Lindsey Cardinale all the way, although I'm upset that she continually picks songs that don't work extremely well for her. And she doesn't have a whole lot of attitude, either, which makes me feel that she won't be winning this competition. She doesn't look natural with her onstage motions and whatnot.
But dang she is gorgeous. And generally lovable.
I think she's too shy or something, which is just fine, on a personal basis, but perhaps not to be a pop star. That's okay, though, she can just settle down with me, who will welcome her with open arms, because that's her destiny.

I don't know if he's gonna move on or not, but Travis is from my hometown and went to middle school with my older sister. He's like the all-American wonder kid, I hear: really nice and very talented.

Normally I abhor this show, but since my family is usualy watching it while I'm eatting dinner (and my dad won't let me be elsewhere to eat) I've been catching it. I must admit, Nadia's really getting my attention, she fuels the stage with her presence and commands the song and the audience with her performances. If someone with that pure talent doens't end up winning this competition my opinions of the general populace will only sink farther than it already has.

Thank God, i'm not the only one who think Mekalah (whatever her name is spelled) is annoying. She sounds like she's singing outta her nose and her voice reminds me of Fran Drescher, only more annoying. I think she's so overrated by the judges.:shrug:

Most of the girls don't really stand out for me, but I was rooting for Nadia.

Paula needs to stop trying to be so nice. I know she doesn't want to hurt the contestants feelings or anything, but she needs to be a judge instead of sugaring everything.

It seems like the guys are much better this year as well.

Paula's always been pretty useless as a judge on camera. At least last year she was entertaining with her talk of glows around people.

Mikalah just needs to go, man. I don't even know why she made it into the top 24 anyways...

I'm surprised Mario left. I'm pretty sure it would've come down to Anwar and Mario, with Mario winning because he's younger.

But right now, I'm rooting for Anwar, Nadia, and Bo. If Nadia and Bo can impress me enough to switch from Anwar to one of them, then so be it. But for now, it seems to me that Anwar will win.

Lindsey Cardinale reminded me of Kimberly Caldwell in the 2nd Season of AI. Just some random thing that was on my mind. :sweat:

Lindsey just never picked the right song for whatever reason. That and I guess she lacked a certain amount of charisma, which makes other people better candidates for "American Idol" even if they're not necessarily more talented.

This new show will combine new live elements with encores of Tuesday’s performances from the remaining 11 contestants.

Phone lines will open at the conclusion of tonight's show and will remain open for two hours to give viewers the chance to vote for their favorite contestants and keep them in the competition. I love Mikalah lol. I mean if anyone says that Fantasia was good and Mikalah isn't then you obviously aren't listening. Do I think she is the best singer? No I do not think so at all. Do I like her better than Fantasia. Absolutley. My Favorites though are Bo Bice, Jessica Sierra, Scott Savol, and Carrie Underwood.

That's what I thought. Constantine is in only cause of popularity and maybe Mikalah too. She has so many fans in her school they could all vote for her and she won't get voted off. But everyone other than those two are pretty good singers. It is going to be one of them to be voted off tonight. I hope one of the good singers won't be in the bottom three. :sad:

I wasn't wowed by last night.

My favorite performance was by Carrie. I loved Bo, but then I always love Bo, even when he's not giving his best performance, so that doesn't really count. Nadia's my other favorite. Outside of that, Federov irks me. (I hope he goes soon, but I do wish him the best. =X ) I'd like to hear Nikko sing a song straight just once. Vonzel is still forgettable, though she does get props for trying Whitney and not butchering it. (She could be awesome if there was just something about her that made me remember her from week to week.) And Constantine was finally exposed as a faux rocker. (Not a favorite of mine. I think he gets by on his charisma too often.)

So we bid farewell to Jessica Sierra. I really didn't think that Anwar and Nadia would be in the bottom three.

I really expected Anthony to go home (out of the three). He's not... bad, persay, but he's not great and he's definitely a bit of a dull performer. Still, I'm not surprised that Jessica was there. Boy, can she belt a tune... but I really didn't feel her putting her personality out there. (That said, I remembered that she was in the competition and not Vonzell. Go fig.)

I was a little disappointed to see Nadia in the bottom three again. (She actually looked a bit frazzled this time around). I happen to like the song she performed and I thought she did a good job of it.

This season is a real upgrade in the refinement of the talent. I don't think half of the contestants last year were really prepared for what they got into. One the other side of things, last season's contestants were a lot more likeable. *Shrugs*

I'm certainly curious to see how it goes next week. (That and I can't wait to see what the next House promo is. Man, those things are hilarious. Every week someone's dying, shocked, or morbidly obese.)

Well, I find Mikalah annoying and I wasn't too crazy about Fantasia either (sorry, I was more of a Latoya London fan in season 3, LOL).

As for last night. I still say when will Paula stop being a cheerleader and start being what she was hired to do...a judge.

I too expected Anthony to go home. He's not bad, he just isn't all that good or memorable. I still like Nadia, but she needs to pick better songs. She's better than she was last week, but her performances aren't up to par with some of her earlier performances. Vonzell is still forgetable, I agree. She's choosing better songs, but still something about her just doesn't really stand out for me. She seems a little generic.

Bo has also become my favorite of the guys as well. I kinda think that Nico has to break out of the generic R&b mold and choose other genres of songs. Anwar needs to step up his game as well. He hasn't been all that great either lately.

Although, I thought Jessica was a good singer as well and didn't feel that it was her time to go home yet, she didn't really show much of that personality factor.

Overall, I really think that a guy is going to win this competition this year. Most of the girls (with the exception of Nadia) didn't really stand out for me from the beginning. But, I guess we'll have to wait next week to see who's the next the leave.

I know. Niko Smith should've stayed in. Scott should've been out or Anthony. Something's really wrong with America. Maybe Niko still might get that record contract.

I wish Nikko were more versatile. He deserved to be there, but all of his performances sound the same in the end. He can only sing R&B he can't seem to switch it up a little bit.

If I were to call the Final Four right now? Bo, Carrie, Nadia and Constantine.

I'm not crazy about Constantine. I'm really tired of his seduction of the camera.

I don't Nikko should have left last night, but I didn't exactly expectly expect him to win either. I agree with Harley that he needs yo be more versatile, and switch it up a bit sometimes. He sounds too much like the generic R&B singer and all of his performances sound the same. I really think that Anthony or atleast Scott should be the next to leave, they're really outta their league.

The judges are really kinda speaking outta their behinds. One moment their telling people to vote for the most talented people... the next they're telling people to vote for their favorites.

i think Vonzell will be able to stick around until Top 5, regardless of this week... now if she's in bottom 3 again like Nadia already has been... I feel like those 2 share voters but now that Nikko left, we'll see...

EDIT: Something's up with America now. First Nikko Smith gets voted off then now Nadia Turner... How is Scott safe all the time? I don't see any showmanship from him. I really think Scott should've gotten out this week. I bet she's still going to get a recording contract. The question is... who will get out next?

I'm sad that Nadia was voted off today. I love her originality and I really was hoping for her to stick around for a while. I also felt it was wrong for Bo to be in the bottom three as well. But I have to kinda agree with Simon here, Vonzell was chosing better song choices and getting better every week while Nadia hasn't been choosing many great or memorable songs this past few weeks. Personally, I felt that Scott should have been voted off. Anthony redeemed himself this week, but I wonder will it be the same next week.

As for who will be out next, I still say possibly Scott or Anthony. But none of the contestants are completely safe at this point.

But Nadia is out and so am I, I go back to despising the tastes of the American viewing (and voting) audience for their inability to see a true STAR. the whole point of this competiton is not only singing, but performing and being able to prove you're a star. Nadia did this in spades. But hey, I'm not all of america and I didn't vote, so I can't complain too much , I'll jsut go back to ignoring the hell outta this show.

70s night was cool. The songs were all good choices. Constantine's eyes were a little freaky :eek:. Well the next people I think are going to get out are either Anthony or Scott. They have to get out. Cause Bo, Constantine, Carrie, and Vonzell are really good singers.

So, I was watching AI earlier. Bo's performance in particular. (I think Carrie had a cold today) He was very much into it. Within a second's time I think I saw this transformation take place. I think Bo just became a star. He was good before. But, wow. That audience just ate that performance up. I did too and I don't even like that song a whole lot.

Constantine is a competent performer. He was not the best vocalist there by any stretch. I'm not upset with tonight's results. I am surprised Scott wasn't in the bottom three. I don't think he sang many of the notes in tune last night. Then again, whenever Simon tells someone they're going home their fanbase really kicks it into high gear.

I know! It's about time for him and Anthony to go home (I'm still mad they did better than Nadia). I'm kinda glad that Constantine went home this week, because I really don't like him anyway. I think Carrie's going to win it now that Constantine's out, but there's noting really memorable about her. She's just the blond country chick. I do think there's the slight possiblity that Bo or Vonzell(who has gotten better and better each week) could still win it.

Wow. Did you guys check out idol last night? Bo's a capella performance of "In a Dream" by Badlands was solid. In my book, it was right up their with Fantasia's rendition of "Summertime" last season. If he doesn't make it through to the finals... Hell, if he doesn't take the whole contest I'd be surprised.

But not upset, I think he can get a better deal outside of idol. =x

Bo's performance last night was great and he did make it to the finals. I'm really looking forward to him winning, but even if he doesn't I seriously doubt he'll have much trouble finding a record deal outside of Idol. Singing capella is something that was never done before by a contestant and was pretty risky, but he pulled it off well. Sad to see Vonzell leave though. She was definately the most improved contestant and my opinion has really changed of her. At first I thought she was going to be a generic r&b singer, but she has quite a voice and has got better and better within each week. Next time it'll be Bo vs. Carrie.
