Of note:
Chris: The year 2004 saw a number of Gundam releases, including Zeta Gundam, Gundam SEED, Gundam F91 and SD Gundam Force. Can you give us any indication on what to expect on the Gundam front in 2005?
Jerry: Right now the focus is still on the Gundam SEED series on Cartoon Network and the final volume of the DVD release will be out soon. We also have on tap the release of the Gundam SEED movies [Ed- Special Editdion compilation specials] which will be released on DVD in the summertime, similar to the original series movies. There will be additional never-before-seen animation with both scenes and mecha, totaling more than 20 min. I believe we have also finally received the SEED epilogue from Sunrise and will be releasing that with the movies. And yes, production will begin soon on Gundam SEED DESTINY. That means it’s licensed.
Chris: DESTINY being licensed is big news. Do you plan to officially announce it at any upcoming conventions?
Jerry: I’m announcing it now. It has been said before and it will be said again, BEI is committed to the release of this extraordinary and long running franchise and we plan on releasing all the Gundams. Broadcast has not been set yet, but we’re shooting for possible first volume DVD release of DESTINY…soon.
Wow...that didn't take long. I wouldn't be surprised to see Destiny Vol. 1 by the end of the year.
I felt this was important enough to make a new topic instead of posting in the talkback.

What surprises me is that according to Bandai, Seed is getting good ratings. Wowsa.
Anywho, soon is not enough. I need my destiny fix, now. Frankly, GSD Blows GS out of the water 10x over and I need my DVD quality, dub version to keep me satisfied.
Can anyone clue me in on the movie(s)?

Wow, that was quick. Destiny's not even halfway done and they've decided to bring it over. I suppose it makes sense to make it the next Gundam series to release, since Gundam Seed's release is almost done and keeping the two close together is probably prudent. If the SEED specials are being released in the summer, that means we could see the first volume of Destiny over here as soon as this fall.
Can anyone clue me in on the movie(s)?
Basically, after SEED ended they made I think four specials summarizing the events of the TV show. I think each one lasted 45 minutes to an hour, so we're talking three to four others of material. I know that they do feature scenes that you never saw in the show, so there is some fresh material for those who have seen the show before. I only saw the first one way back, so I don't know too much about the new content that was added.
And people didn't listen to me when I said work would begin on dubbing Destiny pretty soon...

I never doubted it. I'm almost guessing they started right after Seed's Dub.

If it does make TV (more than likely Cartoon Network), it won't be this year. Both Toonami and <pipe dream> Adult Swim </pipe dream> look to be chock-full of premieres this year.
Hell, most of us aren't even sure if Toonami will be able to fit in 4 hours by the end of the year :p
I guess there's always the possibility of branding the stealth block, but I doubt it

I sure did. Remember I've been pimping it for Toonami any time after Yu Yu Hakusho finishes for quite some time. Imagine the glory of Naruto followed by Destiny. As long as they aren't edited too much (which is hard for Naruto but even harder for Destiny) it could work out. *prays for TV-PG*
Of course CN might not want Destiny. But Bandai will surely try again and I think CN might just bite considering that Destiny has proven to be a much better series.

Well, that was quicker then I expected.
Can anyone clue me in on the movie(s)? The 'movies' are essentially the condensed version of SEED, with even more scene thrown in. They are the Special Editions that everyone talks about. Also there are scenes like, Cagalli in the shower (with very little steam) and Kira and Flay, more or less, doing the deed. I'm not talking /h/ but if you didn't think it happened the SE makes it obvious enough.
So, we'll be getting the 5 minute 'After-Phase' special from the last DVD in Japan with the special editions...good news all around here :anime:

If that's the only way they can air it TV-PG then so be it. But good luck on getting CN to air something so often controversial right after CNF. Even if there was bumper programing for an hour (which would mean shortening the reruns of CNF by an hour).

I didn't expect this to come so soon. This has to one of the shortest licensing lag times. I was expecting it to be announced in late August, like SEED. It would be incredible if Volume 1 of Destiny was released in the Summer, perhaps late July/Early August.
I knew the Movies would be coming, I'm glad they got After-Phase. I wish it was going to be on Volume 10, but at least we're getting it.
He said that the SEED movies would be release similar to the MSG ones, is it too much to hope for all 3 at once?
I wonder what this means for the older series. Will they be pushed back even further or will they get Z-esque releases?
You mean a big ol' boxset of movies?
Maybe CN should air that instead of the series. Put it on a general night disco firearm free and see what happens.

But if WS has to edit both Destiny and Naruto then oooh boy are they in for a lot of work. They'll probably have to edit the episodes on a schedule that gets them done only a month or less before their air date and hope they never get behind.

Even if they can get guns back on Toonami (which I sincerely hope they do), Destiny just isn't going to run with anything less than a TV-PG. Even at this point in the series, the violence and strong themes are already being interwoven into the show in more of a Fullmetal Alchemist kind of way.

What surprises me is that according to Bandai, Seed is getting good ratings. Wowsa. For its timeslot, Jerry said. Which seeing that's 1AM ET on a Friday/Saturday morning, it's probably quite a bit lower than the ratings needed to be a passable show on Saturday nights at 10:30PM ET .
However, I'm glad to hear the ratings are doing well no matter where it is and that the show will soon be dubbed and coming to the U.S. soon :anime:.

I hope YTV will show this fall but I might dream about it. January should be a good time. I can see now on Bionix and of course Uncut.
Naruto with Destiny with Inuyasha WOW WOW WOW and all UNCUT. Bionix will be awesome. Bionix crushes Toonami anytime if it's the plan. I expect Bionix will expand this fall. And of course, the original SEED might be on weeknights with reruns of Inuyasha.
Destiny will probably have the same voice actors like SEED. Lacus and Kira should change. I want to see who will play Shinn.

I agree. I think they will air this sometime next year since they will need quite a bit of time to go through the show with their neon colored scissors, digi paint, find clips to loop, plant and grown some Miracle Gro trees, find some crappy unique sci-fi sound effects to replace the actual sound effects, and finally use toned down diaolog to go along with all that.
if Destiny goes to Toonami I just hope it is good unlike Seed I also hope they would air the Seed movies maybe I could stomach those over the show Meh. Same characters except LOTS of new faces, more Gundams, and the show is better paced than Seed. Although, I hate the "main character". He is so similar to another character in Seed. Then you got that other guy with recycled gimmic so he appears "COOOL" like another character in Seed. That made me shake my head and sigh.
Anyway, this is good news to hear.

The part that interested me the most about the interview was Jerry's answer to why many shows are released on seven DVDs nowadays. Apparently it's true that there is more competition and companies need to do this in order to make money. That's true since a couple very popular shows are being released almost simultaneously (Chrono Crusade and Read or Die).

Then you got that other guy with recycled gimmic so he appears "COOOL" like another character in Seed. You know the commercial. "Knockoff Char Masks, they're magically malicious!" However I'm not very keen on what Destiny is doing with the Zakus and Goufs. I saw the pink one at the beginning of Phase 19 and I was somewhat saddened. The Gouf is my fav. mobile suit and I never thought a model with so much battle experience would be "re-imagined for a new generation" like that.

The pink Zaku is for decoration only for when "Lacus" performs her concerts. The orange Gouf is the latest model and goes into battle soon.

I was more reffering to the chances of a TV airing. When it comes to DVDs, I'll stick to imports. Bandai US put out a better product then Beez plus I'd rather support a leg of the Bandai empire which actually tried to make the franchise sell and actually cares about the fans.

No. I didn't actually think that.
I simply thought that Lacus was singing from the safety of the Plants, and they were showing clips of destruction during the song.
But still, the main character is a ZAFT soldier, and from what I've read, Djibril isn't a very worthy successor to Azrael. Not a very good setup for someone with my...alternative allegiances.

Not a very good setup for someone with my...alternative allegiances.Destiny is being told more from the point of view of ZAFT, where SEED was told from the point of view of the EA. A lot of things have changed from SEED:
Both Lacus and Kira live in Orb, Lacus isn't associated with the PLANTS anymore, Kira isn't with any military organization and neither is just about everyone else from SEED, and Orb is with the EA.
Neo is a better character to look up to in the EA. I'm not sure if his views on Coordinators are the same as Azrael's though, since he hasn't really expressed any feelings on Coordinators. Djibril hasn't gotten enough scene time to say he's not a worthy successor to Azrael, at least in my opinion. Both Azrael and Djibril's objectives are the same, that much is true. Then there's also Yuna with Orb, but he's a little bit of a coward.

I'm 7 discs into Bandai's 10 disc run of SEED, so I think I'll stick with them. The only release I'm likely to buy from Beez in the coming months is Last Blitz of Zeon.
I could understand Ian's feelings if I was saying "I'm going to ignore the UK anime industry and then complain when it doesn't perform", but I'm not. The fact is that US anime releases are generally better then their UK counterparts, especially for a series like Gundam which they're only just starting to look at the prospects of over here. I want to support the industry but if a superior product is available to me it makes sense to go with that. I was VERY close to buying the UK release of Excel Saga but after much hunting in NY I found the Imperfect Collection boxset and snagged that.
