View Full Version : Adultswim.com interviews Tim and Eric

Not an exceptionally well done interview, but Tim and Eric seem to have the same hate for negative reviewers that the Sealab people do.

What is wrong with Williams Street?
I can't believe they used an AIM chatlog as an interview. I bet someone thought that would be a totally whacky and off the wall idea.
Anyway, that was pretty much a completely fluff "internview", but I must admit that the introduction paragraph was filled with unintentional comedy. I refuse to accept that anyone involved with AS believes any of that BS.

That interview turned out just like the show, it tried to be creative, but it turned into a mess.

That wasn't a very good interview, I would figure they'd want to be more professional judging by the time Tim and Eric put into the show. But then again what else should I expect from the AS people?
I would say that Jefferton would sound like more of a generic place, it doesn't have the particular resemblance to any other places, or at least any I know.

...Tim and Eric seem to have the same hate for negative reviewers that the Sealab people do.Yeah, that surprises me. If I recall correctly, they once took a bunch of really negative quotes about the show from various message boards and posted them on their website in a "Praise from critics" section, or something, so I figured they had a good sense of humor about it. I realize lots of harsh criticism can be very hard to take, but I thought they had a different outlook on it.

What jackasses.
They kind of remind me of John Kircfalusi (The Ren and Stimpy Guy). He Also had a Russia-sized ego and thought he was above it all.

OR MAYBE YOUR SHOW JUST SUCKS.
What jackasses.I just checked out the interview, and is this the comment everyone's getting steamed over?
Tim: we got mad at first, but then we just picture the writer being 12, fat and zitty
Eric: the shows not for everyone.
Tim: and realized we don't care
Tim: becasue enough people are digging it What's so bad about THAT? I've seen worse egotistical comments.
It's not the first time they've said it.
I found a log from Eric on Adultswim.com that was supposedly part of an online journal.
Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to say hello and thank you gals and guys for your support here. I mean the **bleep**ing "Rats off" tees are sold out! That's amazing. (but don't worry, we ordered more. just in case you couldn't get one)
Yes, Tim and I just returned for an icy trip down to Adult Swim headquarters in Atlanta. We were stuck on the runway for 9 hours trying to fly back to LA. What a nightmare! Thank god for bloody mary and biscotties! But, we have some very good news. It's so good that I can't even tell you right now. It's killing me!!!!!!
I also wanted to thank you for battling those children on the AS boards. At first Tim and I were a little bummed about all the negativity there. But when you think about the type of person that takes the time to compose such hate? Wow, it's really silly. The fact is that TGTTM is getting good ratings and is LOVED by the people down at Adult swim. A few 14 yr olds aren't going to stop us!
And that beings me to another point. We're glad TGTTM isn't loved by everyone. Then it would be less special. Tom is for people that can understand and relate to the bizarre world that we live in every day. That makes it special for me and to you too! It's like a private club that you're invited.
So. thanks again for being so cool. It makes Tim and I feel so good that you guys are out there supporting this **bleep**! Rock on!!!
Love- Eric
Misguided humor, or self-centered?

I agree with them, people who troll around our forums *cough* and the AS forum and have the nerve to write them and say "THIS SHOW SUCKS" for no good reason are pretty childish.

Misguided humor, or self-centered?or...Factual interpritation of 90% the AS.com boards?
Honestly...sift through a lot of that junk and tell me with a straight face that most of the message board isn't inhabited by people with the mental capacity of a 12 year old.
This thread is dumb. If you guys liked Tom Goes to the Mayor you'd be hugging Tim and Eric's asses defending their dismissal of whiney criticism tooth and nail.
That's fine and all that you dislike the show, and I'm glad people like Beatdigga and Master Moron are always around to remind us every 5 or so posts, but whining about how they react to a little internet backlash (from an already established -14 majority) is dumb.

I'm a fan of the show, and I try to tell the more vocal critics here what I like about the show when threads like "Who here hates TGttM?" pop up. What I didn't like about this interview was that they took an action that creators often take in face of criticism, which is to attack the critics. Defending the show is fine (and something I do here), saying lots of other people do enjoy it is fine, but dismissing all those who don't like the show as stupid isn't so fine. That's what I took issue with.

Oh no, I don't have the unbridled hate for the show that many here do - I simply don't watch it because I don't think its very funny.
But, what makes me mad is the "lol, they are all 14 years old and covered in zits. or they are like comic book guy on the simpsons! who is fat!" comments.
It's the same cop-out excuse that freaking webcomic creators use when their stuff gets slammed on webboards. Its juvenile and retarded.
Get the hell over yourselves, Tim and Eric. As comedy writers go, you're pretty small time. Don't think because you've made friends with Cross and Odenkirk will shield you from all valid criticism.
If they'd just stuck with the "Well the ratings are good and the WS people like us" comments, I'd have ignored this thread altogether.
Meanwhile Tom Goes gets a new season and Venture Bros. is still in limbo. So yeah, there is a *bit* of a grudge there.

I'm not sure the way people talk online is any indication of their age or mental capacity. I mean, a lot of people just don't put a lot of effort into their message board posts.
But, what makes me mad is the "lol, they are all 14 years old and covered in zits. or they are like comic book guy on the simpsons! who is fat!" comments. To be fair he doesn't say that they're 12, fat and zitty. He says he imagines them as such because it makes their whining easier to laugh at (Except where they're specificaly referred to as 14 and if you're denying that there aren't at least few 14 year olds whining then your math sucks).

I am with the ones that say that the show isn't for all. I am also one of the ones that this show isn't for. I don't like how they stereotyped their critics into a group of fat 12 year old zitfaced children either. The show stinks, and they should warm up to the fact that some MATURE people think that it does. Attacking your criticts-who are viewers of the show-isn't a great way to convert those critics into fans. Come down to earth and realize that it may not be the viewer's problem that your show sucks.

Eh, judging by LFV's line and the general tone of the interview, I think the comment is more in the vein of "eh, so meatwadfan_xx45 doesn't like our show *shrug*" as opposed to "we are comic geniuses and if you don't like our show you are 12 years old and stupid".
Then again I didn't read the whole thing because an AIM interview wasn't the best idea.

Hmm...
LUPIN IS GREAT, its very funny and the robberys are kinda cool, but lupin is hilarious, i mena, hes the biggest pervert EVER. I got that from a Cowboy Bebop thread. You're telling me this person was just lazy, and dosen't deserve to be mocked? I think people just need to grow some thicker skin...I mean, when soccer mom's take offense to something easily, we're the first people to jump all over them for complaining just for the heck of it, but when it's people like us posting on message boards, there's a bunch of complaining and bad blood because it's 'tasteless'.

Tim: hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaah
Eric: ololololololololololololololololo When I read that I imagined them as being 12 fat and zitty.
Carry on boys, you keep on making your show and I'll keep on avoiding it. Luckily I only remind people about my feelings on Tom every 200 posts or so.
Meanwhile Tom Goes gets a new season and Venture Bros. is still in limbo. So yeah, there is a *bit* of a grudge there.Well to be fair I don't like Venture Brothers either but at least it's occasionally funny.

Hmmm, I found it interestng that the two AS shows they mentioned they like are Aqua Teen and Perfect Hair Forever. Kind of shows what they're tastes are like (then again, ATHF and PHF are very different from each other). I didn't really like the chatroom style interview. Took too much time to shift through to find out any actual information. The idea of a vice-mayor sounds interesting though. Someone to bounce off the Tom/Mayor dynamic (which kind of needs work. Tim needs to put more of himself into Tom since there's no real comedy in just being a pushover that just goes along with every idea the mayor has without even questioning it that much).

Lazy? That's strange choice of words. Usually when I'm feeling lazy I make more detailed, coherant posts, when I'm really busy and don't have a lot of time my posts sound more like a 12 year olds.

Lazy- Resistant to work or exertion; disposed to idleness.
I mean, a lot of people just don't put a lot of effort into their message board posts.Effort- The use of physical or mental energy to do something; exertion.
It wasn't my choice of words...it was yours.
