I'm a huge Nintendo mark, but even this is some scary news. I love innovation and I'm sure the system will be fun, but come on Nintendo, you need to be developer-friendly!! I hope this system is pretty cheap because you're going to need that if you're going head-to-head-to-head against the PS3 and Xbox 2. PS3 has a boatload of developers and are trying to create the best looking system of the three while Xbox has a lot of American/Europe developers and are trying to capitalize on their mistakes in Japan by getting some former Square and Capcom members to work for them and create RPGs for Xbox. That's what Nintendo needs to do, look at mistakes and fix them, not create more problems for themselves!!

These are just more crazy rantings from Iwata, nothing more. I doubt they really have much bearing on Nintendo. The company needs to find some way to keep Iwata quiet and instead let Reggie do all the talking.

Well thats pretty discouraging. I love Nintendo and all, but if its true that the Revolution is so different from the other conosles that other companies won't develope for them, thats just idiotic. And if that is what happens, then I may just have to pass it this year and concentrate on my soon to be PSP instead.

His repeatedly off-color pronouncements would make me, if I were a developer leary.

Even if the Third vParties don't support the Revolution, Nintendo will still have them where they really count, The GBA and the DS

Except that Nintendo's had a nutbar president for about 30 years or so.

I thought that "finding a console appealing" is what companies do anyway when they decide what to make their games for.

Agreed. Reggie rules.

I'm taking every bit of news about the Revolution as moot until May. We should get some answers at E3. :)

That's very depressing, and it's been a while since I've seen anything good out of Nintendo. It's a dark day to be an N fan......

This fruitcake now has 30% more nuts in it than ever before. And I'm skeptical if I really want to eat something like that chock full of many nuts.

Alienating the third party support is a bad idea unless they can manage to release a TON of first party games in the initial year. They've screwed themselves before about 3rd party support they really should not do it again. Nintendo could manage to keep their heads above water still because they DO make their own games but they hardly released any GCN games over the past years and they expect to possibly release every game on the Revolution? They'd better start hiring more talent soon, they'll need a huge work force to pull that off.

Stubborn Nintendo... Why do you do such bonehead things?

I'll still be looking into the Revolution because I haven't found a Nintendo console I didn't like... But that could change. I think I may actually be getting bored of video games in general. I never thought I'd see the day.

I may be in the minority here, but I really hope that if Nintendo does something "revolutionary" for its next console, it goes full out and makes it a completely different experience from the playstation and x-box sequels. The problem with Nintendo now is that they're trying to be innovative while still competing with the regular markets. This has led to console/controller designs that seem to benefit Nintendo-specific games more while making third-party games more difficult to play, and leaves no one satisfied.

I'd rather have Nintendo corner its own niche market with its own exclusive games, leaving the x-box and ps3 to fight among themselves. If I want a Star Wars game or another shooter, I'll grab the xbox or ps3 version. If I want something else, I'll go to Nintendo.

Hey, Iwata just took a drink of water, let's rant about it.

Anything Iwata says should be taken with a grain of salt, but I am glad to hear that the Revolution will be truly unique. Iwata's just talking nonsense with the whole 'third parties may not support it' crap.

Iwata is just speaking crazy. I'm sure of it. They should chain the guy inside somewhere so he doesn't get out and do this more often.

When I think about this, I picture what if Nintendo was the only developer (well maybe minus Namco, I'm sure they'd support it since they've been making Nintendo games like crazy now and some other 2nd parties) for Revolution. I'm sure there would be some good, if not great first party titles, but what console has survived on first party only titles? N64 had a rough start, but 3rd parties jumped on as it's life continued and we've seen some good titles from them. Gamecube is the same way but maybe even better than the N64 in third party (it may not appear this way now, but think about how long it took for certain 64 titles to be released while a good deal of multiconsole titles today are released all at once.) Atari Jaguar was mostly a 1st party console (maybe with few exceptions such as Primal Rage), Virtual Boy was vastly 1st party, and even 32X had very little help from companies (heh heh, I remember reading a list of multiple 3rd parties in a magazine that were going to "develop" for it such as Capcom and Konami, but I think maybe 1 or 2 on that list actually ended up doing so.)

It's true Iwata is talking nutty, but I still think that a few good third parties will still make games for the console, but they may not acquire some titles that could possibly go to the system due to it being a different kind of system. Rumors are saying the Revolution controller isn't going to have a D-Pad or the A & B buttons!! How's that going to work? One idea I thought is since they're looking into making it similar to the DS, they might make touch screen style buttons and possible digital D-pad in order to cooperate with the game they're making. It would be hard for some games, and maybe just not work, but it would be innovative. I was thinking it might have made it easier for developers to make games on Revolution because they could program what kind of button play they'd want for the game (i.e. a Capcom fighting game may have 6 buttons while the next Mario title would only need 3 programmed in.) Maybe I'm speaking gibbherish, but who knows?

Iwata needs to talk less, Reggie needs to talk more. Hail the Reggie-lution.

I can see where he's going with this, but it's also of what we have heard already so many times before. "Innovation", you can describe the Revolution like this as many times as you want but let's see some if you're so sure. E3 is going to be an interesting ride.

I think Reggie could take on Iwata.

Literally, Iwata's kinda insane nowadays. Nobody listens to him anyway...

I read the comments from the article. Am I the only one that felt that it boiled down to "Maybe yes, maybe no, what the heck do I know?"
