This is the talkback thread for "Gungrave: The Sweeper": Do Gangsters Amuse You? (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=2189).

First one to catch the joke in the today's splash (http://news.toonzone.net/image.php?imageID=179&___r=%2Farticle.php%3FID%3D2189) gets a pizza trophy.

Fageddhaboutit.

Or if you want me to speak in the proper English (Forget About it!)

If that was the joke in the splash... I would think that it's a Goodfellas reference though about the kissing of the Gungrave's ring.

(sticking to proper English) For shizzle, it is apparant to me that you are down with the katakana-reading homies, dog.

Ouch, that one hurt. That looks like a job for x-entertainment.com.

Anyway, the review may be a bit myopic since it only covers one volume of the series, so anyone who's seen it all please feel free to fill in the gaps.

I have this volume and I can say that this is the volume that focuses strongly on the development of Harry and Brandon in the Millennion organization. After reading your review, Desslar, it seems that this show is a mixed bag for you. I understand that the mafia aspect is not very original but I feel that they cover it well.

I have the soundtrack for this series and I can tell you that the music, while moody and good for that "chilling out" feel, it also feels quite amateurish. These are tunes that I can probably whip up within a day or two at best, no offense to Tsuneo Imahori.

You say that Rick Hunter is Harry's dub voice? The credits list Harry's dub voice being played by Tony Oliver. I understand that Harry in the dub doesn't sound very intense in the original japanese dialogue but I feel it's okay since Geneon wanted someone who can sound crafty and suave and I personally think that Tony did a commendable job of it. In all honesty, you ought to try and give the dub another chance. It's not really that bad save for the limited female cast.

Try checking out Volumes 1 and 3 too. Volume 1 simply details Harry and Brandon's lives as members of a street gang before moving up into Millennion and Volume 3 is where the sci-fi aspect really starts to kick in with the Blood War arc.

The series is great if you give it a chance all the way through. I know I am! :)

I think he means Rick Hunter as in the Robotech character that was also played by Oliver. ;)

The show does seem to have a lot of promise. That volume started very slow, but by the end I was interested in seeing more. I just can't figure out how a typical mob story leads to the outlandish superhero-like characters I've seen in other artwork.

And yes, that was a Robotech reference. Sorry, dating myself a bit I suppose. I was working under the impression that Rick Hunter was a timeless icon like Bugs Bunny, but perhaps I'm overstating the case a little.
