Hey,

Screw on head, bless him, his fetish for all things Timm made him stumble onto a new Bruce Timm Gallery (http://comicartcommunity.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=303)

There's some new stuff in there, not shown on Timm's Pop Culture Shock (www.popcultureshock.com/timm) gallery. Some of my favourites include his bad ass Daredevil (http://comicartcommunity.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=303) and some old school Kirby drawings.

Comments?

Be warned, there are nudes on both sites. Enter at your own risk.

I was surprised to find a few pieces of b.t. art I haven't seen before. There's some very interesting galleries on there, including one of Mike Mignola,... and I kid you not Mignola fans, there's a hilarious piece he did of the Powerpuff Girls :D. Also interesting, Mignola-wise, are the 3 pages from a story about The Mask, as in the Jim Carrey version, but with a very cool Mignola twist to it of course... gotta track that issue down sometime...

Hmm... the plethora of drawings featuring Marvel characters makes me wonder: does b.t. have some sort of exclusive contract with Warner Bros. Animation right now?

Because if not, it's absurd that no one's tapped him to work on a Marvel animated series yet. He would clearly enjoy it, his art style works perfectly with the fast-paced movement that characterizes Marvel's iconic characters, and it's obvious he and his team are top of the pops when it comes to animation. If I wanted to make an animated series featuring, say, Daredevil or Captain America, b.t. and friends are the first ones I'd turn to.

It's funny that on the commentary on one of the recent Batman DVDs, b.t. says he used to have problems drawing women, which surely has to be a surprise to anybody who is familiar with his work. :)

I don't like when his stuff gets too Kirby'esque, though.

I like his own take on the characters more than his take on Kirby's. You can tell he's got a great fondness for that era, I mean, look at all the Iron Man drawings. Where is his mid 90's costume?

I'd like to see his with his own take on The Fantastic Four. I remember he was rumoured to be producing a FF cartoon in the mid 90's in Marvel's attempts to avoid bankruptcy, but it never came to pass. (More modern rumours suggest the whole thing wasn't true to begin with, I concur)

b.t. does a pretty decent Kirby imitation (which is saying something, since Kirby's style is really unique and very difficult to emulate) but like Supremus, I think his stuff looks better when he only adds very subtle Kirby touches.

You know, the more I look at his stuff, the more I fall in love with it. I really wish he'd do more comics (I realize he's swamped with JLU), because all of his comic books have had lovely art. A nice JLU one-shot with Dwayne McDuffie or Stan Berkowitz would be great.

Please don't take this the wrong way:

Timm sure loves his nipples :p

just had to say it :p

Love his work. I definately agree on the marvel thing. If he could take his writing/art team over to do an adaptation on marvel license (my preference is something from the Ultimate universe) I'd so buy it/watch it in a heartbeat

He seems to have a fondness for Daredevil in particular, whose world I think could spawn an exceedingly interesting b.t.-built animated series. Given that Daredevil grapples with perhaps the weightiest moral issues in the Marvelverse, and at the same time is among the least explored of its heroes, furthers my desire for a good animated take on the character.

Especially after that travesty of a movie with Ben (retching noise) Affleck. I know little about Matt Murdock, but he certainly deserves better.

Who says it has to be a kid's cartoon?

Heck, make it TV-14 and we can put it on Adult Swim. With a later broadcast venue and an older target audience, the show could be both suitably violent and able to deal with the mature themes of sin, guilt, and punishment that drive Daredevil's stories.

Plus, b.t. can go crazy with the ladies, especially Elektra. :D

Yeah but the likelyhood of someone backing a TV-14 superhero cartoon would not be very high.

The gallery was pretty cool

Thanks for posting the link, Spidey. I want Bruce Timm to do character designs for all cartoons, from now on. Period. He's brilliant. One of those images looks like the cover to some kind of sketchbook? Looks like a John Carter: Warlord of Mars drawing. Does anybody know if that sketchbook is available anywhere? Or for that matter, any other publications with Mr. Timm's artwork in it? I have the animated batman book and modern masters vol 3, but that's it. I seem to remember hearing about a spanish-language hardbound art book, but I don't know if it was all Bruce Timm, or maybe lots of different artists, with just a bit of Mr. Timm's stuff. Plus it was out-of-print and cost a ton of cash.

Given the track record of more adult themed cartoons, it doesn't seem like something the American cartoon industry is interested in investing too heavily in, and since the movie was a big flop, it's probably even more unlikely that anyone would be prepared to throw a lot of money at a show like that. It will be interesting to see how the new Spawn cartoon fares, if they ever find an outlet for it. If it's a success, it might result in more adult toons being made, but word on da street is that it could be another stinker. The Ultimates from Marvel is another contender for a good adult themed toon, but it's direct-to-DVD, I think.

I think we will eventually see some more adult stuff from Marvel and DC, but it doesn't seem like people are ready for it just yet. It would probably take a high-profile, high-quality project rather than a slow trickle to kick it off.

I had no idea that Bruce Timm occasionally drew such provocative artwork! Awesome!

Does he do still drawings like this in his spare time? I always figured that, while spending the last decade and a half working on animated shows, that Timm wouldn't have much time to do more "traditional" artwork... (but obviously I'm glad he does!)

BTW, seeing Timm versions of Daredevil and The X-Men makes me really hope to someday see Bruce Timm & Co. tackle the Marvel universe with the fervor and intelligence that they've tackled the DC universe... :p

Those drawlings were awesome!

Whatever company that's producing the new "Fantastic Four" cartoon should just scrap all their plans and models and hire Bruce Timm to do the show, since JLU is ending after one more year.

Seeing a Marvel show in his style would be so much better than the stupid anime.

In addition to timmfans (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/timmfans/) (you need to register to get in), I'd recommend checking out Comic Art Fans. Just pluy "Bruce Timm" into the search and voila! Some of my favorites include this Catwoman (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=63867&GSub=8245) pic, this recent Birds of Prey (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=89219&GSub=8157) pic, and this absolutely stunning Poison Ivy (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=88415&GSub=12892).

there were quite a few problems that came up when popcultureshock changed to buzzscope (same host, just a new domain name) - so the bt gallery hasn't been updated in a while - the host still needs to fix some problems before I can update again - in the meantime the pic updates have been done at cac - when the bt gallery gets updated it will include all the new pics at cac plus more.

there are 3 "BT Drawings" sketchbooks, self-published by Timm - volume 1 debuted at WonderCon 2003, volume 2 at WonderCon 2004, and volume 3 at this year's SDCC - there's a partial checklist of Timm's comic work here

That Birds of Prey sketch is nice  I was curious whether or not his Oracle would look anything like his Batgirl (besides the obvious differences). Since he's doing some artwork for an upcoming BoP issue, I wonder if that piece is for that or something he did for the fun of it.
