View Full Version : So This Is What It Sounds Like When Mods Whine...

Somebody (Possibly a mod) complained about my sig looking too long or some crap like that. My sig actually wasn't too long. There are quite a few sigs on here that go for three or four lines (episode quotes, ect.). Maybe you're picking on me because I'm a N00b (OMG, N00bs R teh Sux0rz!).
Stop worrying about signature length and crap and worry about real modding, please.
I've seen sigs on Usenet that take up half the page and nobody complains. Actually, I like Usenet better than half of these "Limit boards" with mods.
Get that stick out of your butt. There are far better things to worry about.
When did signature length and avatar size become such an issue, anyway?
This is what I hate about message boards. The mods are so SUPERFICIAL.
Fine, go ahead, ban me for making fun of mods or whatever, but sometimes I think they take their powers a little too far.

You will get farther with your concerns if you go through proper channels (i.e. discussing the situation with the moderator who asked you to change your signature), or if you at least express your concerns respectfully. I assume you want the mods to treat you respectfully (as they always should) and we expect you to treat mods respectfully as well.
As for the signatures, they generally become an issue when they are of such length that they become too significant a part of the thread. The message boards are intended for discussion of the various topics Toon Zone covers, not the continual viewing of members signatures. Basically, signatures become an issue when they get in the way of the actual discussion. By making sure signatures are not too long, we can ensure that the focus stays where it should, the conversations going on in the threads.
I don't know who talked to you about your signature, but it appears that you do not have any warnings on your record. Thus, if it was a mod who talked to you, it was simply a request for you to stay within the rules, no mod powers were used against you and no one took disciplinary action against you. Finally, I would suggest that you read the Toon Zone Forums Rules (http://forums.toonzone.net/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_new_faq_item), hopefully it will explain any other concerns you may have.
Get that stick out of your butt. There are far better things to worry about. Speaking of butts, whats up yours? Its just a sig.
Fine, go ahead, ban me for making fun of mods or whatever, but sometimes I think they take their powers a little too far. They won't ban you, they have far better things to worry about then somebody whining about, of all things, avatars and signatures. They will just tell you what Will told you.

There are quite a few sigs on here that go for three or four lines (episode quotes, ect.). Maybe you're picking on me because I'm a N00b (OMG, N00bs R teh Sux0rz!). Or maybe we just do what we've been doing long since you came here. It's not personal!
Stop worrying about signature length and crap and worry about real modding, please. As I said, this isn't your place to dictate terms of what is important and what is not. There are rational reasons for having short sigs. I'm sure you can find reasons why they should be longer, but in the end, this is not your board, as petty as it sounds.
If you don't like the way the staff run things, no one is forcing you to be here.
I've seen sigs on Usenet that take up half the page and nobody complains. Actually, I like Usenet better than half of these "Limit boards" with mods.
Again, as I said in another recent thread, this isn't "x" forum. This is Toon Zone. This is how we do things here. So please, stop being so rude just because you don't agree, it doesn't do you any favours.
Get that stick out of your butt. There are far better things to worry about. As someone has already said, it's a signature - you are the gentleman making a thread about it. So I'd hardly say Toon Zone has a stick up it's butt about it. As is it's right as a private forum, it has decided signatures should be a certain length. You come here as a member - and like all members - you appreciate that you follow the rules of that private club. We have issued rules on signatures and moderators - IMO quite politely - ask you to change them if they are too long.
When did signature length and avatar size become such an issue, anyway?
This is what I hate about message boards. The mods are so SUPERFICIAL.
Because we are here to communicate, not show off pictures or links. In this community that's our priority and you'll find more people find in your face sigs and large avatars more annoying that the minority who are offended by the constraints. I think that's something you just have to deal with.
Fine, go ahead, ban me for making fun of mods or whatever, but sometimes I think they take their powers a little too far.
I sometimes wonder where you get these ideas.. :p we have never banned people for giving feedback. Official action is laid out in the FAQ at the top. We just do as has been agreed by staff and owners. Whether you like them or not, they have been rationally decided. Perhaps Toon Zone isn't the best place for you if these rules agitate you so much. You certainly soundn stressed here - and for no real reason. There's no point coming to a forum if it just irritates you - that's not good! :)

I have a complaint about the mods
They're too darn sexy. I can't get anything done around here.

P.S.
When did this particular forum just become mod bashing rather than actual feedback and suggestions?

This is just dumb. Signatures are meant to be a little bit of fun just to have, not your life story! If you don't like a site because of the signature length, how will you make it in life complaining about such minor things?
I like monkeys!I hate The Monkees.
On topic, I'll add that the main reason for not allowing really long sigs is because they tend to stretch the thread too far and sometimes it even gets confusing since they're mistaken as "part of the actual post", which is actually common with big sigs.

I went through a phase where I wanted to be different and antiauthoritarian here on the boards. But I've learned something:
Just obey the rules. It's easier, you'll be happier, and once you get to know them, the mods are actually really nice people with whom you'd be extremely lucky to be friends with. :)

As Style here said, the rules aren't difficult to follow. It's also a good way to make sure that not as many jerks post here. Too many good forums get ruined because of a few posters making the place uncomfortable to be. We've got a few bad eggs, but if you look on like, any other forum ever, you'll see why we have these rules. :)

Any board with signature limiting is cool with me. I've been to too many boards where people are allowed to have signatures that are inconceivably annoying. The less sigs that take up the half the page, abuse various format code and have some fugly, filter-drenched picture they made in their downloaded copy of photoshop the better.

~ ~ Raven13 ~ ~I believe it's 5 lines, but I'm one to talk. *counts lines in her own sig* But see, I almost always use the smallest to second smallest font size, as to not make my sig look obnoxiously big and/or long.
Oh and if it is waaay too big and/or long a mod will tell ya and/or fix it, I think.

It is 5, but I think 6 is fine with us.
I consider about 10 lines of small font to be OK. And no font over size 4.

You only say that cos yours is 6 lines RG! ;) Nah, six these days isn't considered overboard. We're getting soft in our old age.
It's a matter of sensibility. We shouldn't need to be THAT specific. If your sig is distracting, that shorten it and/or make it a smaller font.. we don't one sigs which draw MORE attention than the contents of the post... guys, we're all young/old/very old adults here... just be sensible.
*uses Bird Boy's eye as a neat place to store his British umbrella*
Five lines, that's your limit. No more, no less (well, you can have less, if you really want to).
I know some sigs can go six or seven lines, but nothing more.
Your sig was... what, 10 lines? Self-explanatory.

Something else to keep in mind no one looks at your sig anyway they don't want to be bothered by things. Unless you have it there for an extended period of time or are posting in every thread you can like a maniac. If it's just like 1 line people might be more likely to read it.

I agree with this, thus my quoating it.
However, I don't know about other people, but I've been using my sig to promote my religion, such as it is.:p
I wouldn't mind larger avatars, although It would be somewhat wasted on me.
120x120 would be super nice, anything bigger is gouche though.
All in all, things are pretty moderate around here.
SOme boards don't let you have a custom avater or sig at all, and that lacks personality.
Others let users get away with gigantic banners in their sigs, and that is just really annoying. It gets in the way of reading.
