Am I the only one out there who still plays Magic? Anyone? (Voice echoes, crickets are heard.)
Thought so.
Still, if anyone DOES play Magic, please post! There has to be someone else...

Magic... is a card game. Yes, but there is a fighting/strategy "last man standing" coin-op game: http://klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8498

There's an online PC game, too. The last time I looked at it the game's developers seemed to be running it into the ground, though. Ironicaly the upcomming Yu-Gii-Oh Online game looks like it'll be a clone of it.

I play Magic pretty competitively. The PC game is pretty good, but you have to pay money for the online cards and already Wizards sucks me dry with this game.
I played a while ago, but I stopped a ways back and I'm probably way out of the loop. I used to play on Apprentice and MWS, as I didn't want to actually pay for cards.

Some of my friends play it but I don't really understand the gameplay.

I got into it when it was fairly new, but now I've had noone to play with for years. I still buy cards now and then and fiddle with my deck, though. I only ever played for fun and only cared about building decks around interesting themes. The one I have now is a black and white insect deck (which is crappy, but unique)

I've been trying for awhile to build a deck around upwelling(4 mana enchantment, no mana pools emptying and prevents mana burn), but since my collection is crap my deck is pretty poor right now, and goes too slowly.
Why do the Power Nine have to be so rare and expensive?:crying:

I used to be very into it in high school, but after going away to college I no longer had the cash, free time, or interested opponents to play. It was a fun game, but you could tell it had been around for a while-- with a new rule or two added every expansion, it was starting to become something of a nightmare in terms of complexity. It could've used a major rules overhaul. Also, about the time I quit playing, the newer expansions were starting to include really overpowered cards in order to get people to keep buying.

Based on that, I'm guessing you quit around Urza's Saga? Since the Urza Block was just about the most broken thing in Magic history and had tons of tournament bans to accompany it. Of course, after that they severly toned down the power of just about all the cards and they've only started getting back up powerwise with the Mirrodin Block.

Yeah, that sounds about right. As I recall, that was also when they started trying to have characters and plots, which I always thought was kind of lame.
Oh, and they pissed me off by making it impossible for me to keep building on my blue/white falcon deck with new expansions by turning all Falcon creature types into Birds.

I played quite a bit back in the 4th Edition Era. My friends and I even played competitively a little, but we never got too far in non-multiplayer matches. Since then I've played off and on (more off than on), the only major time being when I got back into it during the Invasion block. I still have the way too many cards I've collected over the years and I fiddle with them every once in awhile and teach my fiance some of the basics, but I just don't have time to fully get back into these days. Too much school.

I play an awesome blue-white deck that I call "Lawbringer". It consists of some awesome flyings, a Vizzerdrix (6/6), an Alpha Set Serra Angel (4/4, vigelance) and some pretty nasty samurai.
Speaking of samurai, there's some awesome new sets out: Champions of Kamigawa and Betrayers of "". They have ninja, samurai, bushi, kami, oni...even fox spirits. All sorts of nifty stuff. And don't even get me started on the power of samurai and ninja. Samurai, whenever they're blocking or being blocked, get +1/+1 till end of turn. Also, there's a card I have called "Indebted Samurai". Whenever a samurai I control goes to the graveyard he gets a +1/+1 counter. Sorry about ranting so long, I just got back into this game, and it's pretty awesome.
Oh yeah, and to William C. Maune, I started in about 1999 with the, well, 1999 starter. Just wondering if that was near 4th edition. Anyone else like to comment on this game?

That would probably be more 5th Edition as I had graduated from high school at that point. I think 4th Edtion was around 96/97. I started around the time the Homelands and Ice Age expansions were released. Man, I have so many Ice Age cards.

1999 would actually be 6th Edition, the Base Set is every two years, and 9th comes out this year.

I have played for about 5 years now and still do to this day. The only time I buy cards tough is when I can get an insane deal on them (usually at yard sales). Check this out, I got a box containing 5 preconstructed decks (one of which was a tournament deck) and a stack of cards about 7" high..... for $12! it was chock full of awsome cards!
Decks:
Green and Black uber huge creatures deck which can get out lands INSANELY fast and generate HUGE creatures. (if any of you are familiar with the Sutured Ghoul *see below* I once got it to be a 45/37 trample!)
Black and Blue discard and damage deck (windfall and megrim are an excelent combo in multi player games)
Green Elf deck with ability to gain massive amounts of health or deal massive damage
red and white deck which has yet to win...
Red and Green Dragon/Spike (+1/+1 counters) deck
Black kill deck

A friend of mine knows a good online program which alows you to build a deck with any cards you want (no limits but the usual ie: more than 4 of a kind) all for free. you can play anyone online. I will see if I can get more information about it, but I do know the program is called Aprentice. I have used it once, and it is some what low tech, but it is COMPLETELY FREE and is online (free to download). I'll see what I can do about putting up instructions so we can all play some time.

I amassed about 3,000 cards back in 1994 / 1995 (all revised - MANY dups) and then quickly lost interest, as I tend to do.
I actually sold off most of my dual lands last month on Ebay and scored $700 for about 30 cards :D
I plan on selling off the rest as one big mixed lot when I have time.
