What if these two well-famous charcters, known for outwitting every single bad guy they encounter, would face each other? If these two immortal icons clash, which one would have the advantage?

....what?

Bugs is more of a solo act and Lupin has a team he works well with.
But Bugs would win because he's just a tiny bit more aplomb then Lupin.
He also has a carrot.

Sorry for the pun, folks, but isn't that what this thread is all about? Lupin/Bunny ;)

Bugs' ability to pluck needed objects out of thin air would probably give him the advantage.

"Well-famous"? Assume you mean "well-known," but that leads to my second question: who or what the heck's a "Lupin III" (besides, I'm guessing, some anime character)? Guessing my not-huge-animation-fans family's never heard of 'em either----which precludes being "well-known" among the general public.

Anyway, unless this "Lupin III" guy/gal/whatever's a turtle or gremlin, Bugs wins. ;-)

You must not have Cartoon Network or watch Adult Swim, then. Lupin is a japanese toon from the 70's or 80's that aired on AS for a while and gained a pretty big following, but not enough to get more episodes ordered - hardcore anime fans generally hated it for being "old" and "too american" in both the writing and visual style. Nuts to them, I thought it was a fun show, though I didn't catch it often.

I was baffled by this thread for a moment but now that I think about it, Lupin does draw heavily from Bugs. He has almost the same attitude, and he's just as good at making fools of his enemies. He's the third in a line of legendary thieves (hence the III) and pulls off ingenious schemes (often genuinely ingenious on the part of the show's writers) to thwart the bungling detective obsessed with his capture.

And now you know.

But otherwise I have nothing to add to this or most any other nonsensical "what if" threads. They may be similar characters in spirit, but they aren't the only two and they have no other connection, except perhaps Lupin being well-famous in japan, though I'm pretty sure Bugs is slightly more recognized even there.

I had cable until I moved from my parent's house last year, and even then, I didn't watch any of the anime shows on CN/AS (not a big anime fan).

Even so, still don't think "Lupin III" even remotely qualifies as "well-known" (by the "well-known-to-the-general-public" definition---doubt my family/friends would have the slightest clue what I was talking about if I mentioned "Lupin III," but they all recognize Bugs Bunny; said definition might be different among animation fans...).

But thanks for the info...

Lupin III isn't really that well-known outside of Japan (Not as much as DBZ, at least) but I'd have to say Bugs. Only the tortoise/gremlin can beat him.

There's not even a level playing field in this face-off. Bugs Bunny is more defiant of physics than Lupin, and utilizing every WB gag from dynamite to anvils would run rings around Lupin. Although Lupin is able to defy various laws of physics and whatnot, like his little driving scene in Cagliostro, as well as escape the most treacherous of traps, he is in a different league than Bugs Bunny.

However, since Lupin is a sucker for pretty ladies, I wouldn't be surprised if he fell for Bugs Bunny crossdressing as a woman. And then in a WB fashion but yet highly risque, have the punching glove or anvil appear out of nowhere.

I've said too much.

It would help if your family were Japanese, since Lupin III is probably the most famous anime franchise in Japan.

Another similarity is their penchant for crossdressing.

Nor am I, and I liked it somewhat, which explains why most "otaku" couldn't stand it.

Lupin vs. Bugs would be interesting, they're both very clever, and masters of disguise who manage to outwit just about every opponent they face, and come up with some truly ingenious ideas.Bugs would probably win if he was using Looney Tunes physics, though. But on an even playing ground, Lupin could probably get the slight edge.

Doesn't Lupin & Bugs Bunny have the same Japanese voice actor?

Interesting.
It makes me wonder how popular Lupin the 3rd is in France, which is where his granddad had a series of books.

Lupin can suspend physics as well, as long as he's a) doing something absurdly dangerous for which he is entirely unprepared (like leaping from a cliff without a parachute) or b) behind the wheel of a car. I swear there is nothing Lupin can't do as long as there's a car chase involved.

Lupin's physics can get pretty messed up as well, just not quite as much so as Looney Tunes can.

That I can't tell you apart from the fact that Amazon France stocks only two DVD titles, but it seems they call him "Edgar" over there, perhaps to avoid potential lawsuits.

The closest any relative of mine comes to Japan is an aunt (by marriage) of mine who's from South Korea.

Otherwise, don't recall there being a ton of African-Americans/people of African descent living in Japan... :-)

Now that you linked to those pictures, think I've seen that character while flipping past CN before (but didn't actually stop to watch).

You may also have glimpsed him in the advertisement bars at the top of these Toonzone pages.
