I was wondering if anyone thinks the creators of both He-Man and She-Ra got their inspirations to the characters and other worlds from the 1981 cult animated favorite " Heavy Metal"?
Maybe the creators did saw the movie and saw the stories for "Den" and "Taarna" on a midnight screening at a theater ( It was a midnight hit) then wallah they got the ideas for He-Man and She-Ra when they were brainstorming an idea for action figures and Cartoons. I don't really think it was "Conan The Barbarian", i believe it was Heavy Metal. Taarna the white haired female warrior hottie was probably an inspiration to "She-Ra", same kinda badass female warrior hottie.
Who would win in a battle between Tarrna and She-Ra?

Interesting theory. I only saw HEAVY METAL for the first time about two months ago, and while I enjoyed it (especially the "Tarrna" sequence), I must admit I didn't think of HE-MAN or SHE-RA. But now that you mention it, I can see a similarity. Too bad we never got a "She-Ra suiting up for battle" scene like the one with Tarrna. :p

Dude, you honestly may be on to something! I grew up watching He-Man and She-Ra, and I LOVE the movie Heavy Metal, and I never made that connection!
But you're right. Take Den and Tarrna divide blood lust in half. Minus agression. Multiply a sense of honor, and compassion by 3. BOOM! He-Man and She-Ra.
YOU'RE A GENIUS!

No i am not high on anything! it's just a feeling since i do own "Heavy Metal" and also grew up on He-Man/She-Ra, then i had a funny feeling that maybe the creators of He-Man/She-Ra saw the movie "Heavy Metal" then got the ideas for the cartoon and similar otherworld just like on the stories of "Den" and "Taarna".
If there was a battle between Taarna and She-Ra, who would win in the battle of the hottest animated warrior chick? and did you know the Harry Canyon story in the movie inspired " The Fifth Element"?

Actualy MOTU was an offshoot from Conan, they wanted to intergrate more futuristic styles into Conan however it didn't really work so instead it became MOTU.
But yeah the 80's has pretty much similar styles of worlds and character designs... The mutant barbarian in Heavy Metal could easily pass for one of the Horde Members...
If you liked Heavy Metal though try tracking down a few of the books, also there's the sequel Heavy Metal 2 which is available on DVD...

Heavy Metal 2000? I've heard of it and only seen a few bits and pieces of it.
I heard it wasn't as good as the first film. Anyone care to clarify on this?

It's funny. When I rented HEAVY METAL from NetFli, I was sitting there watching "Harry Canyon" and thinking to myself, "This reminds me so much of THE FIFTH ELEMENT." Then afterwards I watched the documentary, and they mentioned it. Though I found "Harry Canyon" much more entertaining. :D
Yeah, I've read that HEAVY METAL 2000 isn't very good. Kevin Eastman was involved (he was also involved with the first one), but apparently it's one feature-length story instead of a series of short anthology pieces.

That question is worse than getting high. Taarna, btw.

Just how much training has Taarna got under her belt? I always thought She-Ra had an edge over her bro because while he grew up lazing around a palace, she trained with the Horde.
