View Full Version : Is CGI in the budget or the experience?

I've heard arguments for this both ways. Is the bad cgi in JLU the result of a low budget or just the inexperience of the people doing the models?

The idea behind using CGI will no doubt be budget motivated, but the lack of quality is most likely down to inexperience.

It's not that difficult to do good CGI, but it seems like they have made little or no effort to design it with a look that would integrate well with the 2D style. Futurama and Clone Wars are examples of good CGI, while JLU's is really some of the worst on TV, and when a show like Teen Titans doesn't need it, I don't see why JLU does.

JLU's CGI already looks 5 or 10 years old. It will look even worse in 10-15 years time, while traditional 2D ages better.

If I said it once, I'll say it again: 2.5D should be the way to go. They should the 3d in a couple of eps to save enough money for some good 3d filters/plug-ins. That steal/buy out/hire some good 3d artists from other places. come on, BT!! We deserve better!

What I want to know is does using the CGI save them THAT much money? I mean, would it really max out their budget to use a 2D Watchtower?

</The Detective> Not to mention the original watchtower was aesthetically pleasing. Those close-up camera angles of the JLU watchtower are horrible. The closer we get to it, the worse it becomes, whereas the background paintings of close-up portions of the Watchtower seen in seasons 1 and 2 of JL are detailed and pleasing to look at.

The currrent one is just.....so typical. But at least the interiors are better in the current one.
