View Full Version : Are There Any DC Characters That You Don't Want on Justice League?

With an appearance from the Justice Society scrapped, I hope that this means that we won't see appearances by Alan Scott (the Golden Age Green Lantern) and Jay Garrick (the Golden Age Flash). I think that it would reduce the uniqueness of the the characters that we already have (the same goes for Barry Allen and Hal Jordan).
I'd also prefer to keep appearances by Justice League characters from the 1980s to a minimum; meaning no appearances by Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Gypsy, Vibe, Guy Gardner, G'nort, Crimson Fox, Blue Devil, Firestorm, etc. While we're at it, no Superfriends appearances either (unless for purposes of humor--that means you, Wonder Twins, :p ).
Any preferences?

No Supergirl!?!?!?!?!
Come on, she was great on S: TAS!
Though, I do catch your point. If she came on it would be:
"Why is/isn't she young/older?"
"What's with the old/new outfit?"
"Where's she been all this time?"
Then again, the same could be said of Lois, Batgirl, Robin or Nightwing. Heck, showing any other Batman or Superman characters will raise questions. But, you know what? It'd be worth it just to see them again.

I never, ever want to see Hawkman in this universe. It would detract from how tough and cool Hawkgirl is. In the presence of Hawkman, she'd be demoted to redundant female counterpart. I never want to see her like that again. She was so much better in JSA before Hawkman came back to the DCU. Hawkgirl is the best thing JL has going right now. Don't convolute it.

I don't ever want to see Guy Gardener on the show. He's a poor character now, and he would just be out of place and, likely, annoying on JL, too. He's just a overall crummy character.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I live for the 80's characters. Hey, at least let the regulars get captured by Lex Luthor or Darkseid and have the 80's guys save them! Were they that bad?

Well, it is just my opinion. They concievably could be made more interesting. I mean, look at what they did with John Stewart and Hawkgirl.
I'm just not very excited about seeing them.

I kinda think it would be good to see Guy Gardner in the show...he could get on Batman's nerves so much that Batman would punch him and knock him out. (Like what happened in the Justice League comic series from the late 80s. Except he wouldn't lose his memory.) Guy is a jerk, but still a good character.

Guy has been a decent character depending on the writers that portray him in different manners. Giffen, I always thought, did I nice job.
However, I'd not have Guy on the show. Not for a very long time, at least. Save him for the inevitable GL spin-off. ;)

They could do a Green Lantern series, but do we really need so many human GLs? I think that John Stewart and Kyle Rayner would be enough.

I am not interested in seeing Elongated Man, Black Canary, Green Arrow, etc, etc.
Although, I would be up for seeing Batman forming the Outsiders and an appearance from Nightwing and the Teen Titans.
Of course, both of these teams would have to be souped up and re-interpreted for the tv show.

Ok, I want to see Firestorm on the series!!
I would like to see Plastic Man on there, too, but no Elongated Man, please. I don't want to see the Metal Men, the Outsiders, Hawkman, Element Lad, or Ambush Bug in the series either. Not that I think Bruce Timm would be greatly tempted to put them in there.

NO: Metamorpho, 10th tier characters..
YES:
Black Lightning & the Outsiders-- to give the JL a counter-team, with more aggressive tactics--
Nightwing & the Titans-- formed in the aftermath of 'wings exclusion from the Titans, sans Wally-- with Changeling, Wonder Girl, Raven, Cyborg, Starfire, Aqualad, Speedy.
one-shots, guests- Firestorm, Green Arrow, Plastic Man.

It's one thing for the show to be about a group of super-heroes and the super-villains they fight, but ..if they have only super people on the show all the time, it'll become a farce! I say, try to show normality as much as they can, because they already have enough super-ness as it is.

I agree with those who think Hawkman would diminish Hawkgirl. Similarly, I agree with those who do ot want predecessors such as Barry Allen on the show. Let's just pretend there IS only one of each of these characters.
I think every era which has supported a large cast of JLAers has some dead weight. For example, Elongated Man and Red Tornado do nothing for me as JLAers, but I like Reddy's role in Young Justice.
I think the JLI could have been used as heroes from the 50's or as heroes from another dimension (think the JLA/Wildcats special from a few years back).

I DO NOT want to ever see Plastic man on the show! Nor do I want to see Guy Gardner (I cried with joy when Doomsday beat him to a pulp in the death of Superman story line) I have no problem with anyone else having a guest role on the show, especially awesome to see would be Shazam & Firestorm the nuclear man! ;)

Howdy,
I am completely, 100% against seeing Doomsday on JLA. His real power is to make complete blithering idiots out of all the heroes around him, who somehow believe that the only way to stop him is to hit him REALLY HARD instead of using their brains and maybe some creativity.
I think a Hawkman one-shot appearance as Thanagar-space-cop to explain things about Hawkgirl wouldn't be out of line. Especially if they do something like what John Ostrander did early in his Hawkman run, where he was essentially a PR pretty-boy and she was the real brains and talent of the duo. Other than that, though, no Hawkman is fine by me.
No Mad Hatter, either, but not because he wasn't cool in BTAS. Since BTAS, I can't picture anybody other than Roddy McDowall providing his voice.

Here's who i'd like to see on the show. (Just to see what Bruce Timm could do with them.)
Firestorm
Teen Titans
Swamp Thing
Dr. Arcane
Guy Gardner
Gorilla Grodd
Superboy
Impulse
Samurai Jack: WHO ELSE WANTS SOME!!!!!
The Green Hornet

I would love to see Booster Gold and Blue Beetle on the show for one episode or something like that
not only can they be funny but its always interesting to see slightly under-powered superheroes going up against real baddies like dessad or mongul etc (note this does NOT include the batman, as he is probably at the peak of human physical shape and very close mentally, plus he has years of exerience and tons more gadgets to play with)

Uh, no. Shazam is the old wizard whose name Billy Batson speaks when Billy wants to become Captain Marvel. The ignorant masses get confused, thanks to Marvel Comics who wouldn't let DC have a comic book (or TV show) named Captain Marvel, so DC cleverly created a comic book titled, "With one magic word... Shazam!" or "Shazam!" for short, with the hopes that people would realize that Shazam! is the word not the superhero. Unfortunately, readers are a cowardly and superstitious lot, and many were unable to draw this obvious distinction.
It doesn't help that the most recent Marvel Family comic was entitled "The Power of Shazam" which is even more likely to make the uninformed draw the conclusion that Captain Marvel (who seems to have all the power) must be Shazam, instead of the truth which is that Captain Marvel gets his power from the wizard Shazam.
I mean, to me, it's like saying that Superman can also be called Action, just because Superman stars in Action Comics. Then, we could say that Batman is also known as the hero Detective, and Wonder Woman is also known as the hero "Sensation".
And since the Thanagarian versions of Hawkman and Hawkgirl first appeared in Brave and the Bold, it is obvious that Hawkman's name is Brave and Hawkgirl's name is Bold.
So, the JLA cartoon currently features the heroes known as Action, Detective, Sensation, Bold, and three others.
(Didn't John Stewart first appear in an issue of Green Lantern/Green Arrow? If so, then his full name is "Green Lantern Green Arrow" not just "Green Lantern".)

Here here! I don't wan tto see Guy gardner on the series. He come soff as really, really annoying in almost any comic appearance and I just don't think he would work. Then again, Timm could make him fit on the series with a nice (and extensive) revamp. I do want to see Captain Marvel (DC) though.

Please god.. NONE of the useless 1-shot characters that PLAGUED DC with the constant "find & defeat the unknown badguy before he kills all of earths heroes and rules with an Iron Fist" story lines during the 90's. I still believe Crisis on Infinite Earths is the finest Maxi-Series ever done. Wolfman & Perez are 2 of my favorite artists, along with Adams, Hughes, Simonson, Golden, & (Jim) Lee.
COIE was a fantastic effort to try and repair the damage done by the companies storylines that occured mostly in the late 50's & 60's that repetedly involved 'imaginary', & 'alternate earth' storylines that so badley screwed up the DC Continuity that most readers who werent rabid die-hard fans couldnt figure out what happened where.
There were litterally HUNDREDS of useless "gritty, aimed at new target audience" crap characters that spewed from the creatively stunted minds of staff in the hopes of tripping over the next "Big Deal"
Wolverine had become so popular that he became the template for new characters. Angry, brooding, mysterious & violent. It was this 'Holy Grail' of anti-heroes that was more or less responsible for the collaps of the comics industry (along with polybagging gimmicks and the contracting of central distributerships).
I can only think of a couple that were actually interesting, if short lived.
Vigalante, & The Question. Pretty much everything else sucked eggs
Lets pray that most of the crap never again sees the light of day.

Well, I think the Question has too much of a history in comics to be considered a short lived character. Steve Ditko created him back in the late 60's after he departed from Spider Man.
And personally, I would love to see the Question in a Batman themed episode of JL.

Not what I ment. Yes.. the Question was part of a Supergroup way back when, and was in Americomics for quite some time. However, as smaller publishers, Like Warp Graphics started to go under, alot of characters got adopted by the 2 big boys. Captain Atom, Blue Beatle, & the Question to name a few.
Again, it was these characters' history and the fans who enjoyed them that brought them over into mainstream publishing, albet in somewhat modified histories and appearances.
I was instead refering to the short lived (70 issues?) series in the early 90's in which he was brought back as a brooding and angry Reporter [hmmmm.. that sounds like a theme Ive heared of before... hmmmm ;) ]
But in any case.. I did like him.
