View Full Version : JLA on WB?
So my understanding is JLA is a WB cartoon but yet it is only on CN right now. Does anyone here know when it will be airing on WB? Being that I'm from Canada and we don't get CN here (unless you use DTV or dishnet). Just curious :)

The WB blew their chance to have a Justice League show--if they had their way the show would have Batman leading a team of teenaged heroes (like a cross between the 80s comic book Batman and the Outsiders and WB's current show X-Men Evolution).
I hope that Canada gets the show soon, but the WB doesn't deserve the show that Cartoon Network has.
well the only other channel in canada that would get it would be YTV... i think they took a long time before they started airing batman beyond eps... i think expressvu should just get CN that would solve all the problems :P

Very well said, Karkull. They never had an interest in the superhero business. They aired Batman/Superman at 8 AM so nobody could possibly get up to watch it and pulled the plug because they thought it meant nobody liked it. Get a clue.
However, Karkull, I don't think I'd mind WB's version of JL assuming that Batman would lead teenaged villains. Because you and I both know that WB's JL wouldn't be nearly that satisfying. It would be Terry McGuinness leading a herd of Pokémon. :D

There's always the chance the KWB will show a special airing, like they did with Samauri Jack in August. I really don't see it happening. JL is just too violent for the new KWB standards, which are low...very low.
And welcome over! It's great to see another Canadian come to the boards!

Yah, for about FIVE SECONDS!
I was disgusted when I saw the first ad for Batman Beyond. And though I daon't hate it now, I can't say I liked it much...
As for the Canuk role call - FOR SURE! I was so proud when I first learned you were Canadian. GREAT JOB! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, DG!!!

I guess the way I phrased it was a little confusing, and maybe not even as funny as I thought it originally was. :p

Considering the fact that JL is doing even better than everyone expected, I wonder if KWB is starting to see the error of their "kiddification" ways, and have realized that kids don't always have to be shoehorned into cartoons to be popular....
Nah.

I can't stand WB!! They have ruined just about every show they have. Just give them time to start screwing with "Smallville". I was one of the faithful that would wake up at 8 AM on Saturdays to catch "Superman/Batman". Assuming, they didn't pull it for a very special "Pokemon" episode. I am just glad I have DTV now and don't get WB.

On the whole KidsWB kiddiefying shows...yeah, well....
I hope, that what will eventually happen, is cartoon network..or a spin-off toonami network, will become the more "Adult" oriented network, while KidsWB airs the kiddie cartoons. They're doing it to an extent already, but I'd like to see more. The problem is...airing a cartoon on Saturday Morning...kids are gonna watch. While I haven't seen anything on JL that I wouldn't show to my (as of yet non-existant) kids, there are some cartoons out there, that get labeled as Childrens, that are anything but. Yesterday, I was looking for the BB:ROTJ DVD (I think it exists) in the local Hastings, and while I couldn't find it I did find the VHS....in the Childrens Section right next to the Barney tapes. I pointed out to the guy working there...that it really wasn't a children's flick, that a number of people die, and tht if it had been rated, it would have gotten a PG-13, possibly R rating. but it's a cartoon, and not anime, so it'll be in the Kids section. I think the problem is education, and by that I mean, studio executives, store owners, and a large portion of the american public need to be educated in the fact that not all animation is "Kiddie Fare" that a number of adult enjoy animated films, and a number of them have content, not suitable for children. I was shocked the 1st time I saw BB:ROTJ, cause the first thing running through my mind was...what if I was still a kid, and I was seeing this? I realize that some kids could handle it (I probably could have handled it when i was a kid...I woulda been having a few sleepless nights perhaps..), but parents will see it, think..oh, Batman, that's a saturday morning cartoon...and get it for their kids...and then get all pissy, and harrass WB...which is why WB is making everything Kiddie Safe..
@least that's my theory.
I dunno, I just woke up a couple hours ago...my mind hasn't caught up yet.

I shudder in horror to think what KWB would do to our beloved Justice League. Not only would they ruin the concept of the show as discussed above, but in season two I am sure they would feel a need to put some stupid teen age side kicks in there, or even worse...they would want to bring back the Wonder Twins and that stupid dog, too. Then they would pre-empt it for Pokemon marathons and jack around with it's time slot all the time. And pivitol episodes would never get aired, especially the last episode.
The best day for animation fans was when Timm broke with KWB and went to CN. I hope CN is the home for all his future projects. All I wish is he would strike a deal with Teletoon so the shows would be seen in Canada and America at the same time.

I agree, and aside from the content likely being sterilized, putting this show on The WB increases chances of cancellation. Seems most young kids (the MAJORITY audience by far) like the Pokemon-type shows, which encourages The WB to pre-empt Batman/JL-type shows almost semi-regularly, and before you know it, the latter gets cancelled.
Quick question -- does Timm and crew work for WB animation studio although the show is contracted for CN, or does the crew actually work *for* CN? Sorry I'm not familiar with how the industry works.
And not to go off on a tangent, but what's happening with the Batman Beyond (and Batman/Superman) shows? I thought they have all been cancelled from The WB, and that CN is just picking up the re-runs. But some posts from this board seem to imply CN will be showing new original episodes? I can only hope...

I also read about Paul Dini and how he isn't working on JL. Is he remaining to work on shows for The WB network? Are there any other "influential" crew members of B/S/BB shows that aren't working on JL?
If all these people are working for WB animation studio (instead of working directly for the TV networks), then I guess there's a better chance of bleed-through where, for example, Paul Dini can come work on JL part of the time, if they're all working in the same building in the studio...?

They did screw up Smallville, kind of. Last season they canned Roswell just so they could do Smallville. They're basically the same show, with a more familiar alien.

Justice League are the new episodes. I doubt that we'll see new episodes of the old ones (save for Unmasked, the last Batman Beyond episode to air).

So Batman Beyond really has been cancelled by The WB network (and it won't be picked up anywhere else)? Hrmph...
are they ever going to air unmasked on any channel? or are we never going to see that episode? (im sure this question has been asked lots... sorry for asking again)

Hey, don't sweat it. I don't have cable here in America, but I have my friend tape it for me. Usually I download it from a program called Morpheus. It takes long somtimes, but it's worth it. The advantage is that you can burn them to a CD and save them for the future for your kids to watch.
"Hey son, I used to watch this when I was young" *plays file on computer*
i dont think thats legal bruce wayne... if it was then you would think that you could just download all the episodes from toonzone.net or something :P granted at least you would get to watch them but probably the source would be pretty bad and the encoding not very good... my bet is the picture is blurry and wouldnt do any "justice" to JLA

Actually, the picture and sound is crystal clear. Anyways, it is illegal since Cable is needed to pay. But my dad said he's getting cable sooner or later.. hopefully sooner. I can't stand downloading it. But if the show was on public channels, then it would be legal, just an FYI.

Just a reminder that discussions of downloads and illegal online trading is prohibited here, not allowed. If you're gonna continue to tlak about downloading, "Morpheus", and all this stuff, please do it via email.
And yup - Batman Beyond is over, and TheWB will likely renew Smallville becuase the show is a hit, a bigger hit than Roswell ever was on the network. But if you want to tlak about Batman Beyond and Smallville, please do so on the proper board (Batman, Superman, & Beyond), not this one.

You can talk about Justice League all you want, it's just that tlalking about trading episodes, downloading, etc...isn't allowed here becuase of a close brush with legal arm of WB. And we try to keep ontopic as much as possible, hence the request to post Batman Beyond and Smallville on their respective boards.
