I've been a Thomas Haden Church fan since I saw re-runs of Ned and Stacey on the USA Network back in 2000. When I became a fan, he was pretty much on the "That Guy" celebrity list. Now he's at least B-list!
Now, five years later, Thomas Haden Church is up for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Sideways. I've never seen the guy get so much press!
So, I've come to the conclusion, are the Academy Awards a celebrity factory?
Once an unpopular celebrity gets a nomination, they become tabloid fodder and the nation becomes obsessed with them.
