What's the story behind Distraction?

Is it scripted? If so, was it scripted in the UK? And if it is, why is it?

I thought most of the stunts looked fake, but I didn't think about the whole show being fake until livingfruitvirus mentioned it.

I have only seen 1 or 2 episodes here in the UK, but they didn't seem scripted at all. I think a few of the contestants overreacted for effect on some of the stunts, but that was about it.
