Someone asked me this question and I really couldn't give him an answer. What nationality is Bruce Wayne? Where do his ancestors derive from?

The last name "Wayne" sounds like something from the UK, if I'm not mistaken... But that's just a guess.

Although he had black hair - maybe he's from Southeastern Europe?

He's American, of course, but I seem to remember that Bruce's family comes from Scotland.

Bruce is scottish. A few years back DC ublished a one shot done by current New X-Men artist Frank Quietly called Batman: The Scottish Conection. Great read and beautiful art!

That's the name of the one-shot I was thinking of. Thanks, Dick Grayson!

Sounds good, I'm glad you gave me a comic for reference. My friend swore Bruce Wayne was Russian. It was really hard to beleive him. I'll go find that comic and proove him wrong. :D

Gonna confirm it. According to Batman: The Complete History of The Dark Knight, the Wayne's hail from Scotland...although there was a French Scottish knight ancestor that died in the Crusades...

I think that ancestor was mentioned in the one-shot book. I really recommend you pick up Batman: The Scottish Connection. The art alone is worth it, and the story is pretty good.

What do we know about his mother's family? After all, half of him hails from that direction.
