Went to the video store again last night, hoping to use more 99-cent rental coupons to find the last PPG video they had, "Birthday Bash". It was still rented out, but I did rent (along with, at long last, "Shrek", which I'll watch sometime today I guess) "Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase".

The plot: Scoob and the gang visit an old friend of theirs who's a computer programmer at a state university, who (along with his professor and several coworkers) is working on an experimental laser-like thingamajig that can digitize objects and beam them into cyberspace. Said guy's also designed a video game based on the Scooby Doo gang's old adventures. However, all is not well, as some sort of monstrous computer virus has escaped, and begins to terrorize the university/computer programmers. After giving chase, the gang winds up being beamed (by an unknown figure) into their own video game, where (among other things) they wind up meeting their video game counterparts (modelled apparently on the way the gang was drawn back in the 70's, save for cyber-Shaggy's red shirt [more of a mark of those 80's cartoons, though presumably done so that we could tell the Shaggys apart]...which might explain the "special thanks to" Ruby and Spears in the credits, the animators for Scooby Doo in the late 70s-early 80's).

Fairly amusing, even if it felt like (and probably was) an ad for the video game of the same name. The video tape (and I'd assume, also the DVD) includes after the movie a bit with the gang talking about "what part of the film they liked working on the best", a promo for the movie itself (with the voice cast talking a bit about the film, the characters, etc.), and an ad for the video game...

And finally, the local weekly newspaper in my city wrote this about our favorite ex-Harbinger of the Apocalypse's DVD release of his classic film trilogy:
>>>BEVERLY HILLS COP IS FINALLY COMING TO DISC

Beverly Hills Cop, one of the most requested DVD titles, is finally coming to DVD. So is its not-bad sequel, Beverly Hills Cop 2. Unfortunately, Beverly Hills Cop 3 is also on the way. Ah well, you take the bad with the good. Eddie Murphy became a megastar with these films, and then took a little ride down Burt Reynolds Freaky Lane, but it appears that he has recovered his footing, thank goodness. All three action comedies will be available individually or as a set. Each film will be released in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1. Additional features on the first film include a commentary track by director Martin Brest, the feature Casting Beverly Hills Cop, new cast and crew interviews, a still gallery and a location map. The second film will include a deleted scene with an introduction by director Tony Scott, new cast and crew interviews, the original making-of featurette and the “Shakedown” music video by Bob Seger. The third film is lightest on features with only new cast and crew interviews unique to the disc (as far as I’m concerned, it should also contain an apology). Axel Foley and friends arrive in stores Jan. 29.

"Axel Foley and Friends" makes me imagine Mr. Murphy with an aviator's helmet...
