I was wondering...was there a follow-up to this episode? I was left at the end thinking that the ending would be a great introduction to a new super-villian somewhere down the line.

While I'm on the subject: was there ever another episode featuring the Royal Flush Gang?

Thanks, everyone...!

Nope, no sequel to April Moon. And I think you might have misunderstood the ending. The point was that the Doc was probably going to torture/kill the villian - he was going to get his revenge on the villian for lying to him, using him, and stealing his woman.

Yep, there were a couple.

Gotcha. I didn't misunderstand anything...just thought that that might be a great jump off point for a neat new villian. Sort of like a robotic Joker-type personality? Too bad.

There were three Royal Flush Gang episodes, one per season.

Season 1= "Dead Man's Hand"

Season 2= "Once Burned"

Season 3= "King's Ransom"

I personally loved the RFG in BB. I thought that they were very distinctively handled, and were some of the few villians from any of the animated series that showed some evolution and character development from one appearance to the next.

Thanks, Toddman. I'll definitely have to check those out the next time they're on CN. I really liked the dynamics of the group and how they were handled on the "Dead Man's Hand" episode. It's too bad that more of the 'original' villians weren't revisited in BB. Mr. Freeze was good but I was hoping for more info on our old favorites...

Didnt that guy in "Last Resort" that terry teamed up with to escape the institution remind you guys of a teenage Joker kinda nut? I think he should have somehow become a new Joker or somthing (but only if done right otherwise it might stink)

I don't think the doctor dude needs follow-up episodes, I think that would detract from the ending, and kind of drag on what should be a nice, short "what goes around, comes around" theme.

Yeah, I enjoyed the RFG episodes :) Especially King's Ransom.

I was really surprised by the ending. Not that it was bad, it was great. What surprised me was what was implied about what the doctor was going to do. That was some real adult oriented material they did. I am glad they did, it really showed the anger and vengfullness of the doc.

Yes...I thought it might have been a nod to Joker's illegitimate son Anarky from the comics (never saw a pic of him so I can't say how good the resemblance was).
"April Moon" was a bit predictable--the dame was poison, and I knew what the keyword on the exoskeletons would be a mile away...but g.d., was that ending haunting. One almost pitied the poor son of a buzzard....

i caught this episode on cn so I thought I would bump up the thread. this was a pretty good and underrated episode.

my only two gripes were the bright digital coloring and the fact that the villians were kind of cheesy. they could have been designed better and developed better, but it was obvious that they were written as one time villians.

If not for the two-pronged ambiguity of the last five minutes (a. Were April and the gang leader - I forget his name - an item?
Yes. I thought that was made very clear. The point is that the doctor was fully betrayed by April; she was never kidnapped.

and b. What exactly happened to them all?), this would be one of my favorite eps.
All of them? Not sure. But the gang leader is headed to a painful death. Off-camera, of course, but the implication is very strong. There is nothing to stop the doctor now that April is known not to be a hostage but an unfaithful vixen.

This ep has a human element that many lack, and in some ways reminds me of my all time fave, Disapearing Inque. This is nowhere near as forgetable as some people claim. A solid Four Star ep.

I liked it. The idea of super-powered punks as villain was neat. Definitely a chilling ending. And the music! That brass sound was perfect, and completely different from anything heard on the show before.

Did anybody notice something weird with the blue guy (metal fists)? At first, they looked like plain cylinders over his lower arms. Then, they looked like fists! What gives here?

Ah well. A good episode.

A little cheesy in some places (the flaky flakes scene made me cringe), but otherwise a great episode. Loved the music, it reminded me of the Twin Peaks soundtrack in a way. The plot was a tad predictable, but still entertaining. The ending was perfect, but it makes me wonder: what would the doctor do if he ever ran into April again?

No. I'm not gonna make a Robert Blake joke.

This is what I call a "Sleeper" episode...I remember when the ep first aired, a re-run was scheduled in it's place (or maybe that was just Comics Continnuim messing up..).

Anyway, I just say, I remember liking this ep. I don't remember all of it clearly, but, I remember enjoying it, and liking the Freeze-type relationship w/ the guy and his wife...very touching..

Wired? What is wired music? Or did you mean weird? Wired music sounds like an interesting concept though. I remember seeing this episode but don't really remember the music, can someone please tell me what it was like? Thanks.

I like it. I think the producers wanted to capture the atmosphere of the old show.

The music was brassy, almost like a jazz band.

This episode I found highly enjoyable, although predictable (like many of the BB episodes). It has one of the better endings of the BB episodes. (The only endings I like better are "Heroes" & "Ascension").

They don't have to, although it's encouraged. It's basically up to the moderator if they want to include a poll. Besides, most people forget to put in polls, so it's nobody's fault. Talkback threads aren't supposed to have polls, but it's really, really encouraged. It helps add a nice aspect to the thread.

Nw onto the episode, I really enjoy it. This was when the computer coloring was actually getting good and not to bright and intrusive. WHile the episode was predictable, it was fun. We know Batman is gonna win and figure something out at the last minute, but it's fun to see him work up to that.

As for the music, there really is a song called 'April Moon' that's sort of a jazz-type song. I think that explains the score for the episode

Okay, we know that the green guy with whips was named Bullwhip, but what about the other three? Their names are given in the credits, and some deduction and elimination were all it took to fit each name to each character.

The guy in red with the full body suit was named Terrapin (a terrapin is a kind of turtle).
The guy in blue with the metal fists was named Knux (short for knuckles).
The guy in yellow with the saws was named Kneejerk (though couldn't somebody have come up with something better?).

Also, Batman never used a batarang in the entire episode.

Ah, another bumped up talkback. Since it's here, I'll comment, I s'pose.

I haven't seen this episode in a long while, but I remember thinking at first that it was going to be a rather boring episode. Instead, I ended up really enjoying it. It's kind of an updated Freeze-Nora (or even Two-Face-Grace) kind of thing. It's a shame that in the end she was really just using the poor guy. (I'm a sucker for love-stories, hopelessly romantic woman, I guess.)

As was said before, it was pretty predictable, but still it was fun to watch and see how Terry's throught process finally brings him to the end victory. The score is nice (and it's kind of remniscent of the actual song "April Moon"), all in all, it's a pretty good episode and I gave it 4 1/2 stars.

I thought it was made pretty clear that April was alway in league with the punks...in the flashback, when watching it again after you know the ending, you can see how coincidental it is that a hot girl like April accepts the Doctor's proposal, but the Gang Leader first approaches the doctor ON THE VERY SAME DAY!

So I've always interpreted that April was always part of the gang's plan to blackmail the doctor: April steps in and woos the lonley old doctor into loving her, and the punks then tear up the lab and fake April's kidnapping.

Oh, and about the ending: Scary.

I always enjoyed this episode except for 2 things -

1. The design of some of the gang members was rather silly (especially Mr. Chainsaw-for-knees).
2. The score seemed out of place, not necessarily bad (depending on your tastes), but out of place. Kinda like the rap score they used for Batman in Static Shock.

Other then that though i thought it was a really cool episode with a rather creepy ending. It wouldve been cool to see Bullwhip show up again (especially finding out what the doctor did to him). 3 1/2 *'s.
