What does everyone think if this show?

From the site-that-must-not-be-named aka Voldermort.com

Cartoon Network formally announced Krypto the Superdog, a new animated series, at its upfront presentation on Wednesday.

The series, aimed at children ages 4-6, will get a sneak peek on Friday, March 25 at 9:30 a.m. and premiere in its regular time slot beginning Monday, April 4 at 9 a.m.

Here's how the network describes the show:

"Krypto was traveling in space as a test-pilot puppy aboard a rocket ship built by Supermanšs father when it malfunctioned. Landing on unfamiliar territory, the planet Earth, the fully grown Krypto swiftly seeks out companionship and flips over Kevin Whitney, a young boy who also longs for friendship. Endowed with an amazing array of superhero powers, Krypto partners with best pal, Kevin to fight evil forces that threaten the safety and well being of the people and animals of Metropolis. The two new friends waste no time setting up their secret hideout, the Fortress of Doggietude, Kryptošs alien spaceship buried in Kevin's backyard.

"Chasing his tail at super speeds transforms Kyrpto from a normal dog into Superdog, a dog who can fly, with super strength, super hearing and X-ray vision. Like other superheroes, Krypto cannot save the day alone. He is joined by a crack team of animal crime-fighters: Squeaky, the pampered cat next door and reluctant hero; Batman's dog, Bat Hound, who has a tool belt to match that of his famous owner; and The Dog Star Patrol, a band of intergalactic dogs from all corners of space who joined forces to protect the universe."

Superman will appear in the series. Each half-hour episode of Krypto the Superdog will feature two 11-minute

Krypto the Superdog is executive produced by Sander Schwartz, with supervising producers Alan Burnett and Scott Jeralds and producer Linda M. Steiner.

I'm extremely glad that someone has finally found a way to use the Superman and Batman licenses to build a kid's show around :)

I'm also glad that kids in this age group will finally have something entertaining that doesn't attempt to shove math or regular hugs down their throats. :anime:

So that's what happened to Darkseid after Brainiac exploded... he's making cartoons now.

That's Great! I mean for Kids. It will be a show they can easily understand. :)

I've grown very fond of the Teen Titans... I'm hoping Krypto will be just as entertaining as well as successful.

If Bat Hound isn't named Ace, I'll be disapointed.

Its looks like a lot of fun. The Superman Homepage (http://www.supermanhomepage.com) has a nice gallery of images from this show (http://www.supermanhomepage.com/images/gallery/gallery.php?topic=krypto-animated). I'm looking forward to it (but then I'm a huge Bat-Hound fan)

Hey, what about Comet the superhorse?

And maybe they can meet up with Proty?

Can you say...Legion of Super-Pets? :p

I like Bat hound's costume. :p

It sounds like a pretty interesting series. It reminds me a lot of Road Rovers. (A show that I really liked.)

EDIT: Ooooo...Scott McNeil's gonna voice Ace the Bat Hound. That's awesome. I think he'll do a great job. I really liked him as Piccolo in the earlier DBZ episodes.

Looks's like Brian Drummond's going to voice someone too. Cool.

(Bangs head against wall over lack of cable and, thus, not being able to see this show)

Missing... Krypto... cartoon... that... has... cool-looking... Ace model... in... it...

(Calms down)

Seriously, if it's for pre-schoolers, then I'm sure there's some sort of "message" to it---most likely something about cooperation/teamwork (since Krypto's part of a team and all). As for "hugs", hard to imagine a show about a boy and a pet dog without seeing the kid hug 'im once in awhile...

But I'm sure we won't be seeing Krypto solve quadratic equations, at any rate. ;-)

Also, that's "Streaky" the Super-cat.

Maybe my niece (who's 2), who likes dogs, would like this show, or maybe something merchandised from it (a Krypto stuffed doll that isn't as expensive as the one DC Comics released awhile back?). And, of course, if young children like this, maybe it'll encourage them to look for the comics (and/or eventually watch stuff like B:TAS/etc.). (Shrug)

And finally, if it *is* any good, I await the inevitable debates over:
- whether Ace can beat Krypto with "enough time to prepare"
- whether we'll see a spinoff called "Dog Stars Unlimited", and if Capt. Carrot will guest-star
- if Slade's dog will show up in a spinoff called "Teen Canines," and whether Slade's dog is really Ace in disguise

;-)

So we will get the JLA (Justice League of Animals) ? :p

Who will be the villains in the show?

Whoa, Superman will appear in the show! How cool is that?

And with Ace the Bathound hanging around, that almost guarantees Batman a cameo for season 2.

Well, it should be more palatable than Baby Looney Tunes at least.

Y'know, I get the feeling that this show is going to be better than The Batman (or at least have better fan response).

I like all the DC references. Maybe Krypto will have a tummy ache in one episode and it will turn out to be The Parasite (well, a parasite anyway).

What kinds of dogs are Krypto and Ace supposed to be?

EDIT: German Sheperd

According to another site, Lex Luthor will appear as well.

So, do you think Sups and Lex will be shown in STAS/JL/JLU style, or will it be like "The Batman". Just different.

I'm guessing the latter, right?

I've already seen 3 episodes of this show (well, 2 episodes, a half hour one and two 11-minute). This show is really good, in fact, it seems more elaborate (well, what could we expect from Paul Dini, Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett) than The Batman' stories (at least they make sense). We see Lex Luthor's iguana as a villain and I really hope I can see Ace soon (at least he appears in the opening). This is a kid's show, but it is really fun to watch. I hope they explain about Streaky flying because in the first episode he was a normal cat and then he could fly.

Krypto was never clearly defined what breed he was---it's always been a matter of fan debate (well, beyond "he's an alien dog"). I'd guess some sort of terrier, or something...

Seeing a 2000s version of the Justa Lotta Animals (from the early 80's "Capt. Carrot" comics) would be sort of amusing...

But assuming we stick with villains indigineous to Krypto's Earth (vs. the JLAnimals' dimension----who fought foes like "Feline Faust," "Amazoo" "Kanga Roo," (Kanjar Ro), "the Porker" (Joker), and "the Weather Weasel"), uh....hmm:

- back in the old comics, Superboy and Krypto would face off agains the "Kryptonite Kid" (a guy whose body was composed of/could emit kryptonite), who had a pet dog that could also shoot kryptonite rays. So guess there's one foe (the dog)...

- the several foes Krypto fought when he was part of the Space Canine Patrol Agency ( the group of superpowered dogs that're reused on this show)----among them, a planet of evil felines, IIRC.

- Harley Quinn's hyenas?

-B.There's always
-Darkdog and his quest for the anti-bone equation.
-Birdiac (in a ship that's ether a giant bird-head or a huge bird-cage).
-Mettallicat ("This is the truth behind the fur!!!").
-Toy-Poodle ("Watch out, Kevin! That looks like no ordinary squeaky-bone!")
-The Kobra cult (probably just renamed Cobra).
-The Royal-fish gang.
-Live-Lizard.
-Doomsdog.

...Or that bulldog that always followed Lobo around in the comics. :gir:

Heh...

Well, if you wanted to bring in (via Batman's Interdimensional Transporter he apparenty/presumably has sitting around in a corner somewhere the Batcave... unless the Justice Lords really *were* foolishly left to languish in a prison on the JLers own Earth or something... but I digress... ;-) ) some of the "Justa Lotta Animals'" enemies in the old "Capt. Carrot" comics, they were:

- Brainy-Yak (Brainiac, a yak)
- Lex Lemur (Lex Luthor, a lemur)
- the Shaggy Dawg (the Shaggy Man, a sheepdog)
- Feline Faust (Felix Faust, a cat)
- Amazoo (Amazo----unlike the real thing's modus operandi, this one was a composite of a dozen different robotic animal parts)
- Hector Hamhock (Hector Hammond, a pig)
- the Porker (the Joker, a pig)
- the Weather Weasel (Weather Wizard, a weasel)
- Kanga Roo (Kanjar Ro, a kangaroo)

But back in the "real" DCU, yeah, Lobo's dog might make a good one.

Recall Brainiac used to have a pet small white alien monkey in his earliest stories (from the late 50's and early 60's)---maybe that'd make a possible enemy for Krypto, too...

Ok, I will post REAL info about this show now. The first episode was called Krypto's Scrypto. It was about Krypto's origin and Superman makes an appearance. The second episode was divided in two short episodes. The first part was called Super Flea and it was about Krypto and Kevin fighting with a flea from Krypton. I don't remember the next part name, but it was about a giant caterpillar that Krypto and Streaky tried to save from Lex Luthor's iguana (Lex Luthor makes an appearance). The third episode is also divided in two short episodes. The first one was called Meet The Dog Star Patrol. Here the Dog Star Patrol makes an appearance (well, that was no brainer). They are Brainy Barker, the female leader with psychic powers. Bull Dog, a bulldog that grows horns and has super strength. Hotdog, a dog with fire abilities. Mammoth Mutt, a cute female dog that can turn into a giant fat dog. Daredevil (yes, Daredevil), a dog that has the ability to turn its tail into a rope (kinda cowboyish behaviour). In this episode they also introduce Mettalicat. The next episode is called The Streaky Story and it explains how Streaky obtains his powers (kinda interesting take actually). These are all the episodes that had been aired up to now (Cartoon Network Latinamerica). By the way, the Bat-Hound will be named Ace according to the credits (which is a relieve).

How did Superman and Lex Luthor look in their appearances? Are they overly cartoony or do they resemble the S:TAS/JL/JLU versions? Do they talk or are they just quick cameo appearances? Oh yeah how much of Krypton do we see in the first episode? Do we see Jor-El?.., Okay I'm out of questions! ;)

Superman looks like JL first season (bulky and short), Lex looks TOO cartoonish for my taste, we don't see too much of Krypton and what wee see is from Krypto's point of view (don't expect anything like The Last Son Of Krypton). Superman and Lex both talk.

Ok, here goes episode 4. Again, divided in two smaller episodes, the first one was called "Diaper Madness". Krypto and Kevin had to take care of Kevin's little sister who has a teletrasnporter device (obviously, she didn't made it, somehow it fell in her diaper). The second episode was called "Feline Fatale". Mettallicat sends Agent 9L to Streaky's house. Andrea, her owner, starts caring more for her than Streaky and names her Dalila. Agent 9L constructed a dissintegrator beam in order to kill Krypto, but Streaky and him stop her.

Well, today I could see another episode that was divided in two smaller ones. The first part was called Dog-Gone Kevin, in which Krypto and Kevin, due to Red Kryptonite, exchange bodies. This was a funny episode and it is interesting to finally see red kryptonite in the DCAU. The second episode was called The Dark Hound Strikes! This was one hell of an episode! Ace finally makes his debut in the show and joins Krypto (not that he really wanted that to happen) to track down the Joker's hyenas. It was like watching World's Finest reduced in 12 minutes (thank you Paul Dini), BTAS quality-like! Hope you can watch it soon!!
