I was talking to a friend about the ultimate Universe. He said that one thing that makes the ultimate universe different than the regular Marvel universe is that once someone dies and you see the body and know they die they won't come back, ever. Although I would like that to be true, I could find nothing to confrim or deny it. I wass hoping someone here might know.

It hasn't been confirmed or denied either way, at least not yet.

But you KNOW Ultimate Beast is going to make his way back at some point, and Eddie Brock's probably floating around in the UMU, waiting for his big comeback.

We know Eddie Brock is coming back, but Beast's death looks like the permanent kind. We saw the body, and we know they buried him. Eddie, on the other hand, we know is still alive because there's no body. When Betsy Braddock came back to life in Ultimate X-Men, it wasn't too much of a stretch after seeing her involved in a huge body-swap story. But Beast? He's dead-dead. His is one of those clear deaths that can only be undone by something stupid like the body turning out to be a robot, or Professor X playing a huge mind-game while the real Hank is brainwashed somewhere else.

Oh god. That last one might actually happen.

if that did, it would at least bring out more of the student's distrust of Xavier in a "well why would you make us suffer through that" kind of way.

but it would still be silly to do it again.

Howdy,

I think your friend might wish for that to be true, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. The only mandate that was given to the Ultimate Universe is that it would be a fresh start with old characters with more modern, up-to-date origins, founded on the idea that continuity had become a boat anchor that was preventing people from discovering the characters.

The rules of the game were never spelled out explicitly (at least not publicly), and I doubt Marvel editorial would slap down their most consistently selling writers (Bendis and Millar, who are largely the driving forces behind the Ultimate titles) because they wanted to resurrect someone.

I guess it was wishful thinking. Although, I know Eddie Brock will be back at some point (we never did see a body) but I do hope that beast is a dead as a door nail.

They've already rebooted the Fantastic Four, so I wouldn't say the Ultimate Universe is above retcon. :)

That is just a riff on Roger Stern's quote from decades ago on comics in general "You can't be sure they're dead unless they show a body."

I think Quesada made use of this line once, but again, I think it was about Marvel comics in general.
