WORLD'S FINEST - Fresh Question #57: A Titan Valentine

Greetings Leaguers! It's New Fresh Question time, which can only mean one thing! It's New Fresh Question time. Duh. Don't ask stupid questions. And since I'm too much of a goof to take my own advice, let's get right to it!!

Well it's that...certain...pink...commercial holiday I'd rather not mention, but for some it's nice I guess, so we gotta give them that. But ya know, I've loved the chemistry the characters have had on Teen Titans so far. It's subtle and therefore adorable. So I was thinking....do you think it should stay that way indefinetly? Answer me this:

Now or even somewhere down the road a while, do you want a special little Valentine's Day-esque Titan episode where developed feelings surfaced between characters?? Or should things stay the sly subtle way that they are?? Why??

Well, in the episode "Date with a Destiny" We definetly saw Starfire's jealousy for Robin. We saw Robin's jealousy for Starfire in "Betrothed" I secretly think that to some extent, BB still misses Terra. Cyborg likes Raven as a good friend. The only couple, that could be romanticly involved at this point is Robin and Starfire. I'm not sure who likes/loves who in Teen Titans East.

Yes, an episode with BB and with Terra should be nice, but it will never happen. Terra is done and over with  Move on, Batpuppy....

I'm going to say, for the most part, no. The chemistry that exists between the Titans works best when it simmers beneath the surface and gradually rises, not when a single episode drags everything into the open all at once, once and for all.

Consider even the shippiest TT episode of all, "Date With Destiny". It was obvious by the end that Starfire had a thing for Robin, and that Robin probably had a thing for Starfire. But did they seal the deal? No, they danced with each other and had a good time, still very good friends and nothing more. The true nature of their relationship, especially from Robin's angle, was unresolved- which just made it cuter.

Terra and Beast Boy are, thus far, the only two Titans who have had a real, mutual relationship, and that ended in tragedy. I suppose it's a continuation of the old theme that, in their service of all people, superheroes can't really have romances. They put the needs of the many before their own wants.

Plus, a Valentine's Day love-fest would ruin some things even as it solidified others. I know I'm not the only one who loved the interesting chemistry between Robin and Raven in "Birthmark". If Robin were cemented to Starfire, the interactions between them might ring hollow, or even be upsetting. As it is, we're left to wonder about things like Raven's "You know me better than anyone" line, and turn the whole wonderful puzzle over in our mind. And that's the way it should be.
