Or, in other words,

Happy Chinese New Year!

*firecrackers*

Party like it's 4702, people! Year of the Rooster, baby, yeah! :woody: Okay, that's a woodpecker but you get the picture.

Howdy,

Happy Chinese New Year, everybody. Have a Google Doodle:

http://www.google.com/logos/lunarnewyear05.gif

Go watch a lion dance (http://www.hgpho.to/wfest/ch-newyear/japan.jpg), make a luck charm for your door (http://www.chinapage.com/word/luck.html), and eat some New Year's Cake (http://www.chinasprout.com/html/new_year5.html).

Ever wondered why the animals are where they are, and where the order came from? Wonder no more (http://www.c-c-c.org/chineseculture/zodiac/zodiac.html).

I normally like Chinese NEw Year, but the thing that slightly pisses me off about this year's Chinese New Year is that it falls on the 9th of Feb., which is not good. Why?

Cuz it takes the attention away from my birthday on the 7th. Ah well, at least I'll think of all the ang pao as birthday presents!

Happy Chinese New Year to all TZers of Chinese blood! (Yeah, I'm quite Chinese: 75% or so.)

Kung Hei Fat Choy
Gung hei fat choy!
Are these two different spellings of the same expressions, or slightly different wordings of the same sentiment? I've wondered about that for awhile now.

Anyway, happy Chinese New Year everyone. And thanks to Ace for the links. It turns out that I was born in the year of the Rat, and am the complete opposite of what those born in that year are supposed to be like.

for some reason this reminds me of that one Pinky and the Brain episode where they go around the world in 80 days and takes them about five minutes to figure out what Gong Xi Fa Cai means.

Any way happy chinese new year everyone. :narf:
Now I'm in the mood for some Mushu.:D

People born in the Year of the Ox are patient, speak little, and inspire confidence in others. They tend, however, to be eccentric, and bigoted, and they anger easily. They have fierce tempers and although they speak little, when they do they are quite eloquent. Ox people are mentally and physically alert. Generally easy-going, they can be remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed. They are most compatible with Snake, Rooster, and Rat people
I have no idea if it's right or wrong...I mean maybe half-and-half or somthing...

I dunnon I never really saw these things as somthing practical for determining behaviour, it's like the current trend with everyone's blood type.

Two different spellings of the same expressions. While the Mandarin pinyin (romanization) has been standardized, I've yet to find a completely official Cantonese one. That's why you can't necessarily trust the romanized names of some restaurants. "Kee" is pronounced "gay" (with a slightly held "a" sound), not "key".

For some reason, when people spell Kung Fu "Gung Fu", it really annoys me, even though it's more accurate to the pronounciation. </random>

Cool, same animal as the year I was born. Any new year is full of promise, but here's hoping it's especially so this time around...not just for me of course, but for everyone. :D

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone gets lots of red envelopes. And I'm sure that our parents will tell us to put the money in a bank for safe keeping.
