See, that's why I would always set the VCR from 9:58 to 10:32.
DVR makes me lazy.

Anyway, quick question about the AS Schedule page. You guys just copy and paste it from some official source or something?

I'm asking because there are certain typos in the episode titles, and interestingly, my DVR's program guide has the exact same errors.

Such as... "Vanishing Point! Nakaru Disappears" and "Flame Versus Full Metal" instead of "Full Metal Versus Flame".

You weren't always insane. What happened between then and now? Jesus Christ.Alright I'll explain:

His art pictures that he made that were all wonky, pixilated, and surreal like. Yeah well people hated the pictures and the weird ass stories that went along with them. So in an attempt to make people like his artistic style, he's adopted the weird ass writing style format from the stories into his posts...

in other words, he's forcing it down out throats until we accept it...

Woo, too bad that VB isn't doing well as the lead-in on Sunday, but it's nice to see it back to it's 500+k on Saturday. Also nice to see Saturday's back to normal with FMA coming in at 3rd with a solid performance imo.

I'm surprised to see Tom getting such high numbers, hmm, then again Sealab was in the top 3 not too long ago, so I guess it happens.

Does everyone love the Home Movies "History" episode?
Because they should.

I've never seen this one before, and I think it may be my favorite.
I loved everything from the Mr. Pants musical number to the tutoring Brendon gets from McGuirk.
And this was probably their best movie with Starboy and Capitan of Outer Space beating the bad guys through the power of compliments.:anime:
I'll give it five thumbs up.

Ouch to the VB lack of Sunday ratings. I hope they aren't basing VB's renewal on this "4-Week Trial" either. That would be riddiculous, especially since tonight was the Super Bowl with a Simpsons Premiere and Series Premiere of American Dad. There is no way that anyone could have caught that.

As for Tom Goes to the Mayor in the top 3, YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Does everyone love the Home Movies "History" episode? No.
Because they should.Perhaps. I watched that episode once and then avoided it every airing since. It basically combines every element that I disliked from the second season into one episode. I can see why people like it, but it was just so different from what I liked so much about Home Movies that I couldn't enjoy it.

Anyway, I was a little worried when they decided to put Venture Brothers at the 11:00 spot while WS was considering whether or not to go ahead with another season. The show won't be able to compete with Futurama or Family Guy, and I didn't think it would even be able to get ratings like ATHF, but it seems to have done pretty well, all things considered. And with the cost of making the show being so low (apparently), another season seems like the smart move. Go team Venture.

That's what I get for trying to tell people what to think.

I think the big thing missing from this episode is interaction between Brendon, Jason and Melissa, so I can see why some people wouldn't like it. I didn't really miss that because we get plenty of that in every other episode.
This one was sort of the episode of exceptions.
The movie took center stage and for once he actually gets to make a rather decent one, which is the opposite of what we get a lot of time where the movie is hardly there at all.
There wasn't all the "making of" in this one either. A few episodes previous he was trying come up with the a song for the movie with Dwayne, so I guess it was meant to be something Brendon put extra effort in, which kind of explains why it came out better.

There were a few things I didn't understand though, like did they go to a hotdog factory at some time dressed as Starboy and COOS, and then just jam it into the film?
And then there was the part where they "take a step back" which was funny, but looked like they were trying to be funny for some reason.

But the movie was vary entertaining and the parts about his regular life pretty good. He had some conversations with Mr. Lynch that I wish I had recorded and the priceless tutoring from McGuirk who taught him to recite Nixons Gettysburg Address.

Like I said, I can certianly see why people enjoy it. And if it was just one weird episode to act as something a little fun and different, I might have enjoyed it too. But to me, it felt like taking the changes we saw in the second season (most of which I didn't care for) to a much more drastic degree was a sign of things to come for future seasons.

On the season one DVD commentaries, Brendon Small says there were a number of things about the show that he wanted to change and new things he wanted to focus on in the following seasons. It turns out that most of the things he wanted to change were the things I (and apparently Khaki Jones) liked about the show in the first place. Obviously, Small should make the show he wants to make, but the show Home Movies turned into wasn't one I was all that interested in. The History episode was the first time Small really let his immagination with the show run wild, and I wasn't too pleased with the result.

Interesting info. I don't have the DVD so I've never heard the commentary.
I always appreciate well thought out comments, whether they agree with mine or not.
It took me a while to find a C&C for this episode, the way the did them kind of sucked back then and are hidden away, so I thought I would do a more detailed review myself.
Thank goodness for the Home Movies Super Site though!

Usually I think creative decisions are best handled by a shows creator, but there are times that may not be for the best. John K. could probably benefits from someone tempering his out of control Id, if I'm using that term correctly. And even though the show is much hated here, the Oblong's may be better then if Agnes Oblong had complete control.

In all honesty, I think part of my negative reaction to the episode was fueled by the overwhelmingly positive response the episode got when it first aired. I strongly disliked it, and then as I saw more and more people raving about it here, I think my dislike for it grew. Also, there were a few people (if I recall correctly) who were not usually fans of the show, but said they really enjoyed this episode, which had me concerned that the show would change into something that better suited the tastes of those who weren't a fan of the show to begin with.*

I would probably write a different review if I saw the episode now, and had better context as to where it fits in with the series (or, at the very least, write a review with a less bitter tone). But my basic reaction still stands, that the changes seen in this episode were not a one time deviation from the style of the series, but a big leap into the new direction the show was already taking.

*I should probably clarify this. I'm not saying that this episode is only enjoyed by people who didn't care for the first season. Landstander named his site after this episode, and he's obviously a huge fan of the show. It's just that there are some people who only like the later portions of the show, which is in contrast to my preference for only the early portions of the show.
