View Full Version : I Figured Out Why Superman's Design Is So Weird

Umm...

Starro. Remember? That little star-shaped alien kabob that supposedly attached itself to him after escaping from his zoo and controlled him through his stay with the JLU? Since he looked like the STAS Superman when it attached, I assume it is controlling him now, maybe not all the time, but it's there. Hence the graying hair, the crappy lines...lol. I think SOMEBODY GOOFED...

That would be totally stupid and sad. I think the whole Starro thing was for the purposes of the Call only. (thank god)

I think the tweak in the design though Bruce hasn't come out a and said it is that he's been made to look more rugged and purposely a bit older.

With the exception of only a couple shots I can think of, the effect of the extra lines works very very well.

I still think that theres a pretty signifigant chunk of time between Legacy and Secret Origins and that both Clark and Bruce are much older by the time we catch up with them. Obviously we dont see the affect as much on Bruce because he wears a mask *and* even at his age he's still at a all time physical peak. (Though I'm betting that if he were to take his mask off he'd have the Reed Richards stripes goin on. It'd look kinda cool actually.)

Now see, if they'd made Superman older in the actual Superman TAS then I'd be very miffed about it. But I actually dont mind him being older in Justice League.

I rather like the idea of the League being something that forms at a much later point in their careers and that the two of them have kind of set the standard.

Also, since Superman TAS and JL are somewhat seperate entities then you can still do storys of younger Superman forever that take place in that time and have the fun of a bit older Superman in JL. Older Superman isn't *replacing* younger Superman. You can have both.

Just like we can have true Bruce Wayne Batman and still have older Bruce Wayne and his protege in Batman Beyond.

I dont think the Call will be canon (sweet god I hope not) but even if it is, I think its something that happens long after JL. Otherwise we'd be seeing him in a black and silver suit right now.

Bruce Timm does like to have continuity there but he also belives in it being fluid. He doesnt approach things from that post-Crisis Continuity Cop mentality. He's gonna tell his story and if it conflicts with an ep from years ago in another series entirely then to bad.

Yah, there have already been continuity conflicts with things such as Green Lantern's and Aquaman's first appearance. And I'm not sure how the Joker's death in Return of the Joker fits into the Justice League timeline because Batman doesn't seem to have the kiddies hanging around him anymore, but he did in the RotJ flashback. I personally hated the fact that he had sidekicks, but even more when it was Tim Drake. Little kids like that can't go around fighting crime like Batman. But I'm getting off track.

The issue of continuity can take away from a story, like in Secret Origins. How could Batman be dead if he goes on to the events of Batman Beyond? I realize they wouldn't be killing him off anyway, but it still kinda detracted a little suspense in the scenes after he supposedly died a hero's death.

Oh, and we don't have to worry about that Star alien thing. Even under the continuity set by The Call, that doesn't take place for decades.

Continuity's a tricky thing, especially when you have to take it into account across a few shows. Personally, I choose to just put each series in separate categories and not worry bout the continuity of the whole.

After all the abuse that he took on his show, I'd look as haggard as Superman too.

Maybe Batman's kiddies are hanging around, but not with the League. This isn't Superfriend's anymore. ;)

I'll bet Batman's gone solo again. Nightwing's gone off to Bludhaven. Leaving Batgirl and Robin to work together, or maybe solo like in the ROTJ Flashback

Don't read the comic book then, cause in adition to Batgirl, Nightwing & Robin, he has Oracle, Spoiler, a bodyguard, and occassionally the Huntress & what'shisface who took over when Bruce was temporarily sidelined due to a minor broken back thing.

No one thought Batman was really dead. People who had never heard of BB didn't think Batman was dead. You don't put ppl in the promos & title screen, and kill them off in the 1st 1/2 hour.

I still enjoyed watching Terry kick Clark's butt.
