Now then, now then,

I think Whedon's X-Men title is something that someone who hasn't read an X-book in years can pick up and feel like it's right where we left off. All those extra readers for Whedon's X-Men book? Those are the readers, like me, who loved the X-Men and hated what was being done to them in the 80's, and bailed before everybody became a clone of a time-traveling alternate universe robot clone ninja parallel future child clone of someone else.

Ace posted this in a therad over at the CBC board, and I couldn't agree more. I've tried following X-Men comics a few times, Grant Morrisons first arc was more or less lost on me, and now everyone is complaining most of the X-Books are crap. But, that's comics and it's off topic. We will speak of them -- no more!

Ace summary perfectly explains how well the book has managed to cater to new readers, whilst not alienating older, long time readers.

Since X-Men: Evolution is all done and dusted, and spin off's, possibly in the future or at least a few good years from the end of Evo, being the only possible way of seeing the characters again, how well do you think Astonishing X-Men would work as a spin off to the show?

well im really into the astonishing x-men series, these are the only x comics ive read as you really find many in the UK, well not where i am, and i really like it, the way they are done, i could so see buffy bits in them

as a spin off to evo hmm, i duno, half the characters would have been axed, im not sure i would have to think about it a bit more

Not at all. Different audience, different characters, different circumstances, different almost everything. To make this a true spin-off, the characters from Astonishing X-Men would have to be heavily revamped to fit in continuity with X-men: Evolution and what would be the point of that? Then they wouldn't be Astonishing X-Men. You wouldn't be able to have the relatinship between Emma and Cyclops, or the the hatred Kitty has towards Emma, or Logan and Beast's complicated friendship. It'd all be lost. I wouldn't see a point to it because some of the mre adult aspects couldn't be successfully carried over and those aspects carry this book.

good point, the character origins would have completly been messed up and would not tie in at all,

you could try and re-create a simular sort of team from EVO but would have to adjust the reasons to why emma and kitty dont get on etc

X-Men: Evolution is its own universe, completely separate from the comics. As Spider-Man mentioned, the character relationships are completely different. Emma Frost alone is a big problem, never mind that Kitty and Colossus never had such a complicated history in Evo. Trying to smash both universes together to fit each other would be a disservice to both.
