I am the only one who thinks its lame as hell?
Why would AS air such a crappy show
The owner needs to get his head checked..

Dont worry. You're not alone. I tried sitting through a couple of episodes! I really did! But I ended up falling asleep in both, because I didn't get the point. And Adult Swim just makes it worse by only airing reruns of the show while it has only four episodes. But of course, Williams St. just loves the show for some reason:shrug:

I dont see whats so funny in slow moving sketches changing poses every 10 seconds, and the repeats of "uhs" and "ums" im sure you get what im saying

You'll find a lot of people hate Tom Goes to the Mayor. The offical ASMB is stuffed with anti-Tom threads, and I'm not exactly fond of the adventures of Tom Peters either.

Ah, who am I kidding. I hate the show! It's the kind of special garbage that makes your hand burn red, and its loud roar tells you to change the channel.:p

This topic is boring and predictable.

If it's one thing I hate it's "Am I the only one to hate [Insert something that nearly EVERYONE HATES]" they know it's unpopular, yet they do it anyway for attention

Yeah, this is definitely one of the worst things ever to be aired on AS. Its not funny....at all. I sure hope this isn't indicative of the new shows that will premiering in 2005.

It's unfortunate because they have a good setup going. Small town, hicks and fat people, idiot mayor, idiot wannabe famous guy.......so how come they can't make this funny? If this fails I hope everyone will rethink from now on when they want an internet short on TV.

I admit, it is a bit unusual... but after watching it during the xmas break, I found it to be ok. It has some funny moments.. but this beats ATHF in terms of weirdness.

Yeah it is a good setup.. but i think people find the character sketches and their movements annoying, and the writers arent exactly good..

I find it funny, but unfortunately their best is their first, the Beartrap Brothers. NOT a good sign when their 1st is their best so far, and the 2nd had the annoying jackass little brat cliche. The last one, the X-Mas one, was good until the end, there's being a push-over, but Tom takes it to a new level.

Like you guys said, it has EXTREMELY large potential, but they're only reaching some of it. PERHAPS they'll get better once they written more episodes. And since these have to be dirt cheap, and they're getting average ratings, hopefully AS will give them that chance.

Airing the same eps over and over wasn't a bright idea. They should waited to April to show all of them at once instead of a few now and the rest then.

P.S. The guys behind it gladly welcome people to insult the show on their site. There might be some hope for them yet.

TGTM is a great show. I'm certain a lot of the hate felt on this board is because of they little bastard in the second episode. A lot of posters here probably felt like they were the little brat.

I've enjoyed Tom Goes to the Mayor. It's a hilarious sendup of small-town life and politics. Toodle Day, for instance, was a great lampoon of community festivals and the people who run them. Bear Trap Brothers ripped into public safety campaigns. You may wonder about the Tom characters, but I live in a small town and I know people just like them.

The only downside has been AS going into reruns with just 6 episodes. I hope that the new Tom episodes starting in April will be as funny as the ones that've run so far. (^_*)

This topic is boring and predictable.

If it's one thing I hate it's "Am I the only one to hate [Insert something that nearly EVERYONE HATES]" they know it's unpopular, yet they do it anyway for attention actually, I thought Tom Goes... was a popular show. I'm relieved to find out that others share my opinion. it's one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

and wouldn't the way to get attention be to DISAGREE with the majority? next time, think before you decide to act like a jerk.

EDIT: now you have to wonder if I actually think you're a jerk or if I just said that for attention.

The show isnt all that great, however I did like the "Rats Off To Ya" episode... for some reason that sounds like something someone would create. I also think that Jeff Garlin saved that episode because his character showed enthusiasm, compared to everyone else...

TGTTM is this real dry show thats "shining point" is offbeat conversation, and various other quirks... I dont like how they add the weird singing the dialogue stuff either.

I think the problem is that the VAs (the creators) sound like they would rather be anywhere but there in the recording booth...

I'll be scoping out the new eps but I wouldnt count on the show to get any better.

I love Tom Goes to the Mayor. I think it is one of the best shows on Adult Swim right now. I guess the show isn't everyones cup of tea because it seems like most people absolutely hate it.

Wow, I figured this show had some popularity....i mean they keep making episodes.....

Oh well, this is another one of the as comedy crowd that just aren't funny. I don't know what's wrong with them. The lampooning of small town affairs has been done to death in several movies and tv shows. The rats off to you one had a couple of amusing moments but the toodle day episodes and the one tonight were just lame. If they desperately needed writers from the internet, why not hire the red vs blue guys? At least they're funny.

Best shows on adult swim right now? How about worst show on adult swim right now. Clearly you cannot put Tom Goes to the Mayor up in the stands with great shows such as ATHF and Family Guy.

I don't even think Tom Goes to the Mayor has potential. You can't just fill a show with idiots and expect people to laugh at them. There needs to be at least one character who has a brain so that the other characters can work off of them. I mean, there's no freakin reaction in this show. I mean, someone does something stupid and no one works off it at all because everyone else is just as stupid. I mean, Meatwad needs his Frylock, Peter needs his Brian. You know what would make this show funny? If Frylock guest starred, that way the other retarded characters would have someone to work off of. And then Frylock could kill them all with his eye lasers! Did I mention all the characters are really freakin ugly? I mean, I'm not saying they have to be pretty, but these characters are absolutely hideous and make me want to vomit.

I haven't seen all the episodes yet, but the episodes I have seen I've really enjoyed. I know lots of people don't like it, and I can understand that. The humor in the show isn't something everyone is going to enjoy. But I think most of the people who don't like the show don't feel that it just isn't their cup of tea, but feel that the show really misses what it aims for, which I disagree with (that was a lot of negatives :( ).

The style of dialogue, the quick visual bits, and the general absurdity of the town and the townspeople are all pulled off in a very unique way. I think what the show tries to do, it does very well. What it's trying to do, however, isn't something that everyone is going to like.

"Tom" is very similar to what the majority of Williams Street Shows are...these off-beat comedies with long pauses, random prose, and characters that don't listen to each other. Its as if this was done by some people who are making "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" tribute. I know they're thinking this "less is more" approach worked great in early animation and in series such as "Home Movies," but they're assuming they have strong enough writing to pull it off. They don't. In my opinion, the disclaimer that Adult Swim is for no one under fourteen years old, makes me assume that "Tom" is barely hitting that mark.

While the show does serve up insane plot twists and that jerky humor, it doesn't offer one thing I havne't seen on Space Ghosts, Sealab, or Aquateens already. Simply put: Been there, done that.

Well i think that kind of humor works a bit more in the other shows because they offer something more. They offer conflict. Through an entire episode of SGC2C, SL or ATHF the characters are fighting and making light of or completely ignoring extremely odd situations. Admittedly the last one or two minutes of a Tom episodes is kind of bizarre, but the first ten minutes is just them slowly talking and pausing. It might actually be funny if tom went to the mayor and just tried to cuss him out, but that won't happen.

Between this and SMC i'm really hoping that AS wakes up, these shows just don't have a following.

I really wouldn't say Tom is the same humor as ATHF, Sealab or Space Ghost. They're a bit similar but I don't see them as being identical.

A lot of local friends think it is a waste of air time but I don't mind watching it.

I still find the "Get ready for high-octane action!" part of its commercial followed by Tom suggesting something to the mayor kinda weird and slightly smirk-inducing because it seems like they are trying to put this there to contridict themselves or something...

It's not that bad, sure it isn't Family Guy, Futurama or The Simpsons but at least it has to be better than watching horrible dubs from lame distributors like 4Kids or something.

You know, that's actually a really good idea. Seeing Tom cuss out the mayor would be hilarious.

No your not. The show sucks plain and simple. Hell id rather watch Pilot Candidate, or Welcome to Eltinville. I mean they could be airing Lupin instead.

I'm really on the fence with Tom. I mean, there are some funny parts in the dialogue (particularly the beartrap song by Jack Black and Kyle Glass), but there are such long periods of boredom that make the show unbearable. I'm not sure I'll check out the new episodes, whenever they come out, especially if they're anything like Toodle Day. That episode was just nasty.

Tom Goes to the Mayor is garbage in my opinion. I've seen the show once and the character designs and the animation is horrible. This is probably the worst Adult Swim show that I've ever seen.

I think the parts that you find boring are the same parts that I (and probably other fans of the show) find the most humor in. I thought the beartrap song was one of the weak points of the Beartrap Brothers episode, while the slower, "boring" parts were the funniest. So, ya know, different strokes and all that.

Can we keep the OMG TOM GOES TO TEH SUCKY MAYOR, WHICH SUCKS, AND IS GAY, LOL posts confined to the talkback threads? Please?

Because I think we've all heard enough times how Tom Goes To The Mayor is the sole reason why Hitler killed Jesus all those years ago.

I'd say, in general, we've heard all of that enough times.

It's getting old guys, unless you actually have some constructive criticism to add let's keep the constant barrage of put downs Lord Byronius paraphrased above to an absolute minimum. Clicking your heels together three times and chanting Tom sucks Tom sucks Tom sucks isn't going to make the show go away.

Besides, it's getting to the point that people who are in the middle or *gasp* actually like the show can't even be heard. A little civility people, that's all I ask.

That said, let's move on to a new topic.
