Well this is an interesting test. Instead of having consoles compete over graphics, game library, and other stuff like that, THIS test shows off the durability of all three consoles by putting them through absolutely grueling tests. For most gamers, this is pretty painful to watch (if you like that console that much).

Test 1: Weight of the World. A 20 lb dumbell weight was dropped onto each console.
Gamecube - Popped a panel and its top, but still worked fine.
PS2 - If you look closely, you'll see that the innards of the console got SHATTERED. Overall, it got rendered useless. Sorry PS2 fans.
Xbox - This thing's like a tank. Barely a scratch AND it still works!

Test 2: The Sledge of Death. The surviving consoles are smacked on the sides by a sledgehammer. According to my friend though, one overhead strike and it would be ALL over for any of these systems.
Gamecube - More plastic flys from our Cube, but it still works. Amazing.
Xbox - Again, barely a dent and it functions as though nothing happens. I guess graphics aren't the only reason why Xbox is a powerhouse.

Test 3: The Demon Drop. The console is dropped 2 stories. It could've been worse.
Gamecube - The lid was popped WIDE open and when you close it, the alignment is WAY off. Remarkably, the Gamecube still works.
Xbox - Ah HA! The front paneling comes RIGHT OFF in this test! Whether or not the insides are ok doesn't matter, since there's no way to turn it on. Thus, it was considered dead.

So there you have it folks. Proof that despite how kiddy the Gamecube looks, it's definately one tough console. Whether or not any sane gamer would do this to their console is beyond me, but useful to know if you ever go psycho and decide to pound on it for being too flipping hard.

Yeah, they did that on X-Play a while back. Nintendo's always been known for making consoles built like a tank.

Yeah I heard about this, though this is my first time seeing it.

Good to know my Gamecube will be fine and dandy if I decide to go nuts on it.

the PS2 was already broken before the test. somebody accidentally coughed on it.

Nintendo consoles are famous for their durability, especially the old cartridge-based ones...and Gameboys are no exception...

I dropped my old "brick-sized" Gameboy out of a third-floor window by accident, but not even a scratch...the batteries popped out, but it still played fine when I put them back.

How did the final GCN boot up skip the cube-drop sequence?

How did the final GCN boot up skip the cube-drop sequence? I beleve if you leave the lid open, it does that. Since the lid was off allignment, the GC probably interpreted it the same way.

I'll bear all these tests in mind next time I'm in an enviroment which is filled with 20Ib weights, sledgehammers and open drops.

Since none of those such extremes as of yet have entered my console enviroment I say meh.

They'd have been better doing tests such as, damage from yanking it off the table by it's lead, spilling food on it and putting it too close to a heat source. You know, USEFUL tests. :)

Not surprised about the test results. Just looking at the snes by my feet I feel you could plough that through a window attached to a brick and the brick would take more damage.

Hey, you never know...life tends to drop a piano on you sometimes....and how much do those weigh again?

When the x-box front panel came off, wouldn't there have been another way to turn it on? By using a screwdriver to push the trigger button or something?

I blinked at my friend's PS2 and it exploded.

And yeah, the Gamecube is tough as hell.

EDIT - Oh, that IS the clip from X-Play.

In which case, wouldn't some "Durability tests for SJJ" be more appropriate?

Hey, if you have occasion to mail one by USPS, you never know... I mailed a VHS tape to my sweetie in a bubble envelope once and it arrived in pieces.

But I agree that, along with the ridiculous tests which are good for amusement value if nothing else, some realistic tests would be nice as well.

I find this funny and reassuring at the same time. 2 weeks ago I was booting up my gamecube and getting ready to play. For some reason (im retarted) i tried to reach for the door and hold the controller at the same time. I pulled the cube off of the dresser and it landed on the floor (this isnt carpoet either, were talkin hard panel) this is the part that suprises me. when the cube fell, it landed on its top, but the disc somehow was on the floor. Im assuming the cube bounced upon landing and knocked the disc out of the cube. then it landed on its top and closed the cube back up. I was in a complete frenzy and worried i had destroyed it. But 2 weeks later its still working. Im so relieved

It's amazing. My Gamecube was sitting on an end table, and after wrestling around with friends, one of them landed on the table and sent the Gamecube flying. This was only a max of three feet between the table and the wall, and it smacked up against the wall. Rendered it useless.

My old PS2 took more damaage than the Cube and still worked fine. With a few Disc Read Error's here and there, that is. My brother carried it in his backback a lot when transporting it between our house and a friends house.

They forgot the most important test. The throwing of the controller against the wall.

I've never done that, I still don't get why people do that when they loose.

1. Drop 20lb dumbell weight on SJJ (probably a concussion)
2. Hit SJJ with sledge hammer (another concussion)
3. Throw SJJ from 2 stories high (probably a broken leg)
4. Hit SJJ with Gamecube till Gamecube breaks (try surviving this one!!)

That works better with a Wavebird. :p

I'm at school right now and I can't watch it due to the stupid filters. They labeled the movie under "General Pornography"

Well, when the X-Box's front panel came off we saw EVERYTHING. I'm suprised this thread hasn't been closed yet.

1. Drop 20lb dumbell weight on SJJ (probably a concussion) - Better make sure it hit's it's mark or it will be followed by "SJJ decks Simple Simon with 20Ib dumbell".

2. Hit SJJ with sledge hammer (another concussion) Again, better make your mark or "SJJ will be back up to punch Simon in the face".

3. Throw SJJ from 2 stories high (probably a broken leg)
Painful - if I survive that then maybe I'll just be happy with the result an leave any Simon bashing for another day.

4. Hit SJJ with Gamecube till Gamecube breaks (try surviving this one!!)
I have more chance of surviving being hit by a bulldozer taped to the front of a rather dense planet as I have of that. No chance. I'm out on that one.

Not sure why. The topic is light and the responses have been equally so and on topic. As for the site.. well I've done a scout and can't see anything pornographic on a hunt, certainly a little tasteless and dubious.

Of course if someone does, don't share it here, REPORT the post/thread.

Honestly, if you feel there is valid criteria to close a thread, let us know privately. We have a load of threads to mod, we miss things. This is a commiunity, spot something bad, let us know, we'll be far faster and sorting it out that way. :)

Yeah, some people need to learn anger management. Get a stressball and throw that against the wall. Damaging expensive equipment because you're angry is just dumb. Though, I did one time stomp really hard on my $40 Dance Dance Revolution mat once cause I was mad at something else, but those things are designed for heavy stomping anyway.

Bender would find the inside of an X-Box pornographic. I think that's the point. It was a joke. Fatneck was saying that a naked X-Box was pornographic. Kind of like a pop-tart without frosting. Naked pop-tarts are perverted, showing off their holes for everyone to see...

You think too much MM. Waaay too much. :p

Now all we need are handheld tests and the guide to excessive VG abuse will be complete.

I'm surprised any of them worked at all after the first test! 0.0
I didn't expect the XBOX to survive the last one cuz it's so freakin' heavy. Gamecube wins! :D As usual ;)

Once I saw those "tests" I was a lot less concerned about my nieces and nephew dropping my GC off the 2ft high ottoman. :D
