i was randomly thinking about this work and felt it would make a good discussion. i recently read an interview with dan dido about march's countdown and the overall upcoming "crisis". he said that blue beetle would be an important character through this event. if you look close enough at the cover art, batman is holding blue beetle. if blue beetle is one of the casualties of the "crisis" this will be the 2nd major charlton character to be killed off. the first to be "killed" was captain atom in superman/batman #6.

i can only think of 3 charlton heros that still make or have made apperances in the dc universe recently (in current dc time line and "flash back" stories). the question currently has his own mini series. i've seen blue beetle in birds of prey and formerly known as the justice league and captain atom has had an important role in the first six issues of superman/batman.

so i ask you, is dc killing off the charlton heros? i got the feeling they are maybe "killing" them off or placing them in these "crisis" like situations in order to reboot the charlton heros for some new mini series' or hopefully new ongoing series'.

Captain Atom wasn't really killed per se. Like Major Force, Captain Atom's powers make it so that he always comes back(you even see him in Identity Crisis which takes place after the "Public Enemies" arc of Superman/Batman).

Howdy,

The potential death of Blue Beetle was suggested in the earlier Countdown speculation thread (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=128589), via a message board posting from Kevin Maguire himself, who'd have a not-so-trivial interest in keeping Blue Beetle alive.

They did try that L.A.W. mini-series to try to kick start them again, but nothing came of it.

They already did revamps, of one form or another, when they joined the DCU. I don't see them bothering to revamp what really are minor characters now. Sure Beetle could die, but he can just come back again through some "magic process" from coincidentally re-discovered BB I's scarab. Everyone comes back in comics, except Barry Allen (for now).

I think the Charlton characters are more or less the perfect targets for death. They're important enough to the comic book community that when you kill them it matters to some people, but not important enough that their death would hurt DC, moolla wise. Basically if a Charlton character falls in the woods someone will hear it, but not a lot will care (Personally I would).

I think that DC is just killing of the member of "Super-Bubbies" from "Formerly Known As The Justice League". First Sue, now maybe Blue Beetle. Who is next, Booster Gold?
