I've been graced with some free time to just sketch for fun instead of for my portfolio today, so I decided to draw two monsters fighting. As I was roughing it out, I decided to take a crack at the Thing. I used the Mike Wieringo version as reference for him, and the snake is roughly based on the one Lobo rips the skin off of in 'The Main Man' Pt. II.

I drew this on 14" by 17" Newsprint paper, so I had to scan it in 4 pieces and piece them together in Paintshop. I used a sharpie-like marker to ink over my rough pencils. The ink lines bled a little bit as I went along, but I think they hold up for the most part. . Here he is, the 'Ever Lovin', Blue Eyed Thing':

Nice work. The only critical comment I'm make is the bent leg, it's width is sort of lacking but I imagine you spotted that. Nice implementation of research. It makes a strongly composed picture. Nice ot see the Thing get some limelight!

Good to see some of your work again, I especially like the shadow on his jawline, it gives a really good 'jutting' 3D effect. Plus I echo SJJ - it's good to see Ben get featured for a change.

Thanks gang :).

Looking at it, I kind of what to redo it :D. You realize a lot of stuff after the fact of course, like making a thumbnail version before hand for starters. I really should have made that hole bigger so there's that danger that the snake is trying to pull him into it, and pose Thing a little more dramatically so he's resisting that action, but hindsight is 20/20 and all that .

Yeah. I think I wanted to do a 'push the perspective' thing with that leg so I drew that a little thin, but I didn't follow through with that perspective on his boot. I should've made his boot a little smaller.

I think ol' Lars is harboring a grudge toward me, he's been collecting an awful lot of dust on my drawing table lately :D. I really should use him again, I don't want him going all 'Chucky doll' ballistic on me... *fearing Lars' wrath*
