Who is Simon Stagg?

He's the father-in-law to Rex Mason, a.k.a Metamorpho. He's a rich Lex Luthor type who hates Rex.

In the comics, Rex married Simon's daughter Sapphire, and they have a son.

Simon is Metamorpho's main "villain".

That about covers it except for Java, a neanderthal type guy who is in love with Sapphire Stagg, Metamorpho's main squeeze and later his wife.

Rex gets blasted into pieces at the end of one run of the Outsiders, only ot be put back together during Invasion just in time to join the JLEurope. Turns out Simon forced Sapphire to marry Java while Rex was "dead". Rex finds out his son looks like he does, but has a "midas touch" converting anything he touches into any element. Turns out Sapphire, Rex and Simon are immune. Rex serves a long term in the JLE/JLA up until the end. He has a romance with fellow member Crimson Fox. In issue 1 of the current series, he crashes into earth from the satellite and becomes "inert". Somewhere along the line his son is cured (Spectre?).

He last appeared in JLA 52 when his on wished he was back, but forgot to state "alive". Rex retruned to inert by the end f the issue. He's on the cover of Doom Patrol #4 due out next month, so we'll have to check out that to find out how he got back to normal. Well, normal for him.
