Not that I can recall. Sometimes I think a trailer can present too much information, but for the most part, I don't think I've watched a trailer and said to myself, "Oh, great, that one moment just completely ruined the movie for me." In most cases, I don't know what are spoilers in a trailer until I've actually seen the movie.

I remember two very specific examples from a few years back. They stand out because they both happened to have been directed by Robert Zemeckis:

DO NOT HIGHLIGHT THESE SPOILER BOXES IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE.

CAST AWAY
The trailer shows the guy after he gets off the island, when half the effectiveness of watching the movie comes from wondering if he will get off at all.

WHAT LIES BENEATH
The trailer gives away a significant plot point that renders the first hour or so of the movie pointless (the identity of the ghost girl).

I just saw HIDE AND SEEK last night, so I'm rather curious to hear what exactly the trailer gives away. Please post it in a spoiler box so that other people don't suffer the same fate as you.

To create the spoiler box, simply write SPOILER in the square brackets [] before the spoiler and then /SPOILER in the square brackets after the spoiler.

Regarding the CASTAWAY trailer...

Who didn't expect him to make it off the island?

Regarding the WHAT LIES BENEATH trailer...

I don't remember them saying the actual identity of the ghost, but I recall there being mention that it was somehow connected to Harrison Ford's character. Which, of course, was supposed to be a surprise when watching the movie.

Still, even if a trailer does spoiler something for me, I can still enjoy the movie.

Like the unmasking of Spiderman in the Spiderman 2 trailer. Come on, that was a pretty big spoiler to be putting in a trailer. It gets ruins of the element of "How the heck's he gonna get out of this one?".

The Spider-Man 2 trailer might be the biggest example of an over-spoilery trailer I've ever seen. It gives away the entire movie up until the last fifteen or ten minutes. They should have just ended it at the "Spider-Man No More" part.

That is not a coincidence. Zemeckis has been quoted as saying that (he thinks) audiences like to know exactly what is going to happen in the movie.

That is not a coincidence. Zemeckis has been quoted as saying that (he thinks) audiences like to know exactly what is going to happen in the movie.Yes, I remember he compared movies to fast food-- as in how people keep going to McDonald's because they know exactly how the food will taste. For such a gifted filmmaker, that's a pretty odd thing to say. Maybe when he said that, he was really hungry for McDonald's.

In regards to what Michael24 said about the CAST AWAY trailer:

No one can ever predict which will be the movie to break the formula. Even if you suspect he will likely make it off, the suspense of not knowing would naturally enhance one's viewing experience. Especially for people who don't religiously watch movies and are not as in tune to the formulas. Besides, for this movie especially, we shouldn't know what to expect should the character get off the island. It should be as unimaginable to us as it would be to the character.

And in regards to what Michael24 said about the WHAT LIES BENEATH trailer:

Yes, for like the first hour she's suspecting that it's her neighbor, when anyone who's seen the trailer knows otherwise.

I also agree about the Spider-Man 2 trailer needlessly showing everything in the movie. I think it might be longer than the movie itself.

Even though this movie sucked IMO, the VHS cover of "Urban Legend" actually gives away who the killer is.

In regards to the Spiderman Spoilers:

Yeah, the spiderman 2 trailor showed way too much, and the Spiderman 1 trailor showed a lot as well. i didn't want to see the movie once it showed Harry taking of Spiderman's mask, because i said to myself,"I'll just see the third one now that I know it has to be made. THe Spiderman 1 trailor showed evrything important from the first movie, up until he faces the Green Goblin.

Hope this works:!!SPOILERS!! HIDE AND SEEK SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!! Robert DeNiro is shown holding a butcher knife and acting all psycho. I think there was a thunderstorm too. Which means that HE is Charlie. Split personality disorder or some nonsense.

I read a couple reviews(Roger Ebert and a review on a horror site) and both of them were P.O.'d by the ending. They didn't give it away, but they did say the movie cheated, hence why I think I had the movie ruined. This had to be what they meant.

I guess I can see your point. I saw the trailer and TV spots a couple of times, but it still made me want to see the movie. I don't remember seeing them and going...

"Hey, they showed him off the island." It could have just been from a dream sequence for all I knew.

I guess I had the benefit of not seeing the trailer, only the TV spots, as I was suspecting the same person Michelle Pfeiffer was until the revealation.

As for the SPIDER-MAN 2 trailer...

The shot of Harry apparently removing Spidey's mask really inticed me to see the movie even more. I was like, "Ooh, I can't wait to see how that revealation plays out." I guess we all sometimes have different ideas of how much spoiling a spoiler is. :)

Hope this works:!!SPOILERS!!You might want to edit your post to specify what movie the spoiler is for (HIDE AND SEEK). Someone looking at the post out of context might highlight it not knowing what they're looking at.

As for me, I thought that the unmasking would be similar to the unmasking in the Spider-Slayer Part 1 in the Spiderman animated series, in which a bogus Spiderman is unmasked instead of Peter Parker. However, the thing that turned me off from seeing this film was the "I'm Spiderman no more" part of the trailer. While I do know that Peter Parker occassionally giving up his role as Spiderman is a regular part of the comics, the fact that its happening in the second film had "Superman 2" written all over it IMO.
