"Ahem." *taps mike* "Is this thing on?"
In sunny California, born and raised
On the schoolyard is where I spent most of my days.
Studyin' hard, testin', MCATs not cool,
And fillin' out apps while workin' and still in school.
Then a couple of guys said, "Hey, she looks good,"
Asked me to come over to their neighborhood.
I got a couple interviews and now I'm all scared,
Cuz they're all on the East Coast with snow and cold air.
*crickets*
So, that's my situation. Any East Coast people, particularly New Yorkers, Philadephians, and . . . what's the word for inhabitants of Pittsburgh? Anyway, if anybody has advice for this sheltered-in-sun Cali girl who's got interviews coming up next week and the week after that for how to dress and stay warm, I'd really appreciate it.

Do yourself a favor and own pairs of things. Have two coats, a thick hooded coat for the really cold weather and a nice thin fall jacket. Although I see a lot of people dress in thick coats for the whole winter I easily get by in a thin leather jacket. I'd also have a pair of sneakers or light boots which you can wear for most of the winter and a pair of thick bulking boots if you need to go out in the snow. Since you're a lady you can get by in a cute pair of mittens and have a pair of thicker gloves if you need them. Scarves are also good to have, you can wrap them around your head and face or just wrap them around your neck when you don't need them. As for pants, I'm not really sure. I wear a pair of jeans every day but I'm really thick skinned. The other day a girl I knew was wearing two pairs of pants. Beyond that hoodies and sweaters are good to wear especially when you're going outside but make sure you're wearing a t-shirt underneath. I've known people who get in warm places with their bulking sweaters and are stuck.
That's all I can tell you, however I do want to tell you that it's going to suck to be your skin. Don't worry if you start getting chappy and pale and gross. Once May comes around all us North Easterners blossum in the glorious sunlight as we become pretty again.

I'm from Maine, can you say, "hi wind chill of -30? I know you can!"
Anyway, I don't know if I'm some sort of freak, but I've always been able to make it by in a jacket with a t-shirt and normal pants unless I was going to be outside for an extended period of time. However, because you're not used to it the best thing to do is to wear a t-shirt with a sweater or turtleneck with a jacket over it. That way if you get hot you can take the sweater off and still be fine. Pants shouldn't ever really be a problem, though make sure you have warm socks.

If you make sure no one notices, do what I did: Get Flannel-lined pants! Yes, I have a pair of jeans that look like slightly baggy jeans on the outside, but on the inside have a layer of thick, warm flannel! You look nearly the same, but they are great for your legs :D
