Yesterday we reported that the much anticipated Batman: Year One film looks to have a shot at a 2003 release, now we see that designs for the Batmobile have already begun! Wizard recently talked to a designer working on the said mobile and was able to get some information.
The Toronto-based studio Draxhall Jumpis home to artists such as Ken Lashley and Christian Zanier, but DHJ is more than just comics. They get called on to do design work by a number of different clients, even including Warner Bros. The studio is currentlt working on designs for the Batmobile.
Both of the designs seen below were part of a pitch for Warner Bros.’ ‘Batman: Year One’ movie and toy line," said artist Christian Zanier.
"Basically, what we were going for is the first Batmobile that Bruce Wayne built, unrefined and kinda crude. It’s part jet engine and part muscle car."
The "kinda crude" design is on purpose, said artist Ken Lashley. This is Bruce's first stab at the Batmobile, so it won't be perfect.
"In the first ‘Batman’ movie, you can’t tell for sure what year it is," he remarked. "You’re just guessing. It’s close to our time, but not really. It could be the past, it could be the near future. Then for ‘Year One,’ you’re designing backwards. You’ve seen the world, now you have to say to yourself, ‘What would this world look like 20 years prior?’ That’s tough. It’s easier to design forward. It’s tough to design backwards."
