View Full Version : How do you wake up?

One of those random questions... how do you wake up in the morning? Alarm clock radio, watch alarm, whatever?

To leave the house at 10AM on Tuesday and Thursday, I always set both my clock radio and TV alarm at 8AM, to wake me up for my daily dose of Power Rangers in Space. But I never actually WAKE up at 8AM, but around 9:10... not the best time for me to get ready in a half-hour. Even worse is Fridays, when I have to leave at 7AM.

I've even been trying to get my butt out of bed to prevent my "wake up, see TV blaring, fall asleep" routine by putting my remote on my laptop table in the room, meaning I have to actually get out of bed to turn it down, but now I just sleep through the loudness.

Even when I'm up and out of bed, I'm not really awake until I get in the shower.

So, what's your morning wake-up routine?

On work days, I get up on the first alarm (always set to either Q95's the Bob and Tom Show or Radio Disney)

On days off: Alarm goes off... snooze.... alarm goes off... snooze.... alarm goes off.... snooze... you get the idea.

I set an alarm clock every morning, but I could literally count on one hand the number of times it goes off a year. I always beat my alarm clock by at least 15 minutes. I don't know why. I've never used the snooze button.

I have two alarms. One's a clock radio and the other one is my cell phone. I usually fall back asleep so I got to have two alarms. My first alarm goes off and 6:40 and the second one goes off at 7 every Monday through Friday. When the first alarm goes off I turn on the lights because when you turn em on you wake up better or something like that. Don't ask me that's what my science teacher said then I usually fall back to sleep. So that's what the 2nd alarm is for.

On the mornings I work, I have my alarm set at 7am. The clock is clear across the room from my bed, so I have to make the effort to actually stand up to turn off the annoying alarm; it works.

On the mornings I can sleep in until whenever, I usually wake up naturally between 8:30 and 9:30am.

Well, I have my clock set minutes later than the actual time. Then I set my alarm clock at 5:30 a.m. to wake up for school. Of course, I have five different alarm clock set uo cause I'm not a morning person. Hehe.

Two Alarm clocks, a regular one and the one on my cell phone. I've become accustomed to it to the point I anticipate it by waking up before it.

Begrudgingly. I'm a night person by nature. I use two alarms -- one across the room, so I have to get up to turn it off -- and even that doesn't always work.

I get up by myself.Which is a problem because in order for me to reach school in time I have to wake up real early. And I tend to wake up a lot at nightjust to make sure that it isn't time yet to get up...I don't keep alarm clocks...they are friggin annnoying!

My body is my alarm clock. Using alarm clocks don't work so well.. because for some reason, they rarely go off! I don't know what I do wrong, but... I usually rely on my body to know when to wake up. And it works... at least some of the time.

I usually set my alarm clock ten minutes ahead so I can wake up and listen to a song and the news on the radio. Then even though i don't like it I get up and take a shower. Its really hard now on mondays and Wendsdays because I have to be up by six and leave the house by 6:45 and be at work by 7:15.

My mother used to wake me up with a crowbar on the back of the head. But eventually she found that this was too far from my brain and she wasn't getting through to me anymore. So later she woke me up with a steel peg driven into my skull with a mallet.

These days I use my stereo cranked up loud enough to shake the foundation. The problem comes after I turn it off, and drift back to sleep.

For me, constantly waking up at night to check the time would get annoying.

Cell phone alarm rings at 7:00 or 8:00, depending if I have morning classes on that day. Funny thing is, I beat the alarm and get up before it rings on school days. On non-school days, I don't even hear the damned thing and I won't even move til 10:00 or 11:00.

Wake up at 5/6-ish, by way of a pug (or pugs) who want to go outside to the bathroom. Go back to sleep and wake up around 7, 8 or 9.

depends on the day really

when i worked in the US senate, i was up at the EXACT same time (one minute before my alarm) 5 days a week like clockwork.

now that im back in school and working for the state of MO, i somehow have MUCH more trouble getting up and getting going. but im up by 6:30 every morning and out the door by 7.

I just stay up all night and sleep when I get home from school/work due to the fact no matter what I do to wake myself up it always fails. I tried putting my alarm clock across the room, but I eventually started to unconciously turn it off and go back to sleep. I wake up late not even remembering I got up to turn it off. Then I tried using my TV as an alarm, that works fine, until I go back to sleep 30 minutes later.

I have an internal clock, so alarm clocks are rarely necessary.

Sometimes my internal clock wakes me up, but I mostly use my alarm clock, shrill, annoying thing that it is.

Loaded Question here.. so here's my Loaded Answer.

When I thought of this question, I just sleep when I can.. after all I don't sleep that much..(And when I do sleep, Well I tend to hibernate like a bear when I can.) and usually how do I wake up?

Well I let myself wake up..

But since this question can have another meaning I Decided to give you that other answer..to this question

"How do you wake up? "

Irritable and Cranky.. a lot of times.. with a major chip on my shoulder.

That's how I wake up..

After falling asleep anywhere from 9PM-12AM, I'll probably wake up at 2:12, stare at my alarm clock, whisper an obscenity under my breath, then go back to sleep, only to wake up two more times within the next two hours. Finally, around 5AM, I'll go BACK to sleep, only to be awakened by either my watch, alarm clock, or parent at 6am, then I'll get up, still tired, slightly angry, eyes incredibly drowsy. I'll handle the usual hygenic routine (washing the face, brushing the teeth, mouthwash, quick shower, making sure my hair looks decent and as least frizzy as possible), skip breakfast most of time, and then I go to school.

I have a normal alarm clock set at 6, and I have my DS alarm clock set at 6:20. Though I am usually up before the first alarm, sometimes my body just wants to sleep in, so it's necessary.

For some reason, I always wake up when I hear my bedroom door open (it's very quiet). So, as long as I know someone else in my family will be awake by then, I just ask someone to open the door at the time I want to wake up.

Of course, I'm sure my strange ways are of no use to you Knux Five.

On top of a pile of money, with many beautiful ladies.

In actuality, I use my CD player. I recently made a customized alarm CD. It starts off with about a minute of silence, because often I wake up just from hearing the player turn on, so I usually get to turn it off before the music actually starts. After that minute, Macrosick's "Nice Hush" plays. It's a soft instrumental synth song with a gradual fade-in, which is good because at a loud volume it's super-loud, but it won't scare me to death. After that, if i'm still not awake, Queens of the Stone Age's "Ode To Clarissa" plays, starting with its 5 or so seconds of drumming and then kicking in with a huge guitar riff and long, loud scream that's sure to murder me.

Previously, I've often used QOTSA's Songs for the Deaf CD. It starts off with sounds of a car turning on and a DJ talking for about a minute, then if I'm not awake yet, it'll kick into "You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, but I Feel Like a Millionaire", which again will absolutely destroy me with its explosive beginning.

"Grownup" alarm clocks disturb me, that buzzing sound always interrupts my dreams as some sort of fire-alarm or otherwise unpleasant thing and just leaves me off-kilter for the rest of the day - so instead I've got a chicken alarm clock that crows me awake each morning - I'd still vastly prefer to just sleep in but at least I don't go to work truly 'alarmed' that way...

And I -hate- when it seems like the alarm's ringing just as soon as I closed my eyes, that feeling that I "missed" the entire night's sleep just bums me out - so on work days I always set my alarm for 2-3am so I can wake up and enjoy going back to sleep with the knowledge that I still have another 5 or so hours to sleep before I "really" have to get up...I never use the snooze button but this "very very delayed" snooze keeps me happy =)

On school days I wake up to my clock-radio going off at 7. It's set to one of the only stations I can barely stand. Usually they are either talking or playing a crappy song, so it gives me incentive to turn it off and get up. Other times, though it's rare, I wake up to a song I like so I'll lay in bed till it's over. Sometimes I fall back asleep, but usually wake up ten minutes later. When that doesn't happen, my mother wakes me up.

On weekends, I sleep until I can't sleep anymore or I've got to pee really badly.:p

I use an alarm clock. I absolutely hate waking up to it, it plays London Bridge in a series of extremely loud beeps. The first not explodes in my head every morning. Oh, how I loathe that thing. But I won't wake up any other way. It doesn't have a snooze button either, so I have to use tremendous force of will to get myself out of bed before I fall asleep again.

I personally do not have a certain "time" as to when I wake up. Basically I set my adhaan (prayer clock) and it will call the morning prayer, by that I wake up (it usually depends in the winter I wake up and pray around 5:45-6:00 a.m. and during the summer around 4:30-5:00 a.m.) so it all depends on the day.

Wait until my mom comes in the room to shove me off my bed.

Days off from school? Sleep in.

Not me; I love working without a net. ;)

I wake up on my own every day (including weekends  ) between 7:20 and 7:50. I go to sleep at the exact same time every night (midnight) so that helps.

When I have to wake up at nonstandard times, I'll use an alarm clock, but that's probably once every two or three months or so. My alarm clock is a CD player with nature sounds (running water, rustling leaves, rain, birds in a meadow).

I'm a light sleeper, so I hate being jarred awake by a buzzer or radio station; very disconcerting.
