Over the holiday weekend when I was watching the "Harveytoons" shorts, I was wondering what's going to happen to these films now that the Harvey Compnay is now out of buisness?

Well, the Harvey characters are now owned by Classic Media. I found this article (http://www.videobusiness.com/news/112101_classic_media_library.asp) that seems to hint at possible video releases in 2002.

While searching for information about Classic Media, I found this press release (http://www.kingfeatures.com/pressrm/rel_42_18_6_2001.htm) that deals with the future of Mr. Magoo (which Classic Media also owns).

Thanks Jon-

That does sound like some hopfully good news...I wonder will the company restore the "Harveytoon" titles with the original Paramount/Noveltoons titles?

Interesting!!!!

Let's all hope Classic Media has great success in their attempts to revive the Harveytoons, Mr. Magoo, and the other classic cartoon properties they now own. Maybe it'll give Viacom and Universal the idea to actually do something with the Terrytoons and Walter Lantz characters/cartoons.

It would be interesting if Classic Media were to use the original Paramount titles on the Casper, Herman & Katnip, and Noveltoon cartoons.

There was supposed to be a new Heckle & Jeckle cartoon series, but I think the project was canceled when MTV Animation Studios closed down. Maybe Jerry Beck should do something with Viacom (like he did with Harvey and Columbia) to make something like The Terrytoons Show, that could air on NICK AT NITE or TV LAND.

Aside from the new (not necessarly awful) cartoon show and the constant video games and merchandise, there is very little exposure of the Walter Lantz cartunes. In fact, the Woody Woodpecker cartunes of the 1940s have more laugh-out-loud humor than most TV shows today.

What I think will be interesting to see here, is what will happen to "Buzzy The Crow" in this new deal with Classic Media. Will the company see fit to release the "Buzzy" cartoons with the (god awful) new dialog & soundtrack, or ban the shorts altogether, due to Buzzy's voice.

Stay Tuned!

I only like the Harvey toons as comic books. The cartoons are okay, but... I dunno. ;)
