One-Piece
We are proud to announce the acquisition of one of the greatest pirate stories of all time!! Set Sail for One Piece!
A story of a young boy inspired to become a pirate by his childhood hero "Red-Haired" Shanks. After accidentally eating some cursed Gum-Gum fruit, he gains the power to stretch his limbs like rubber!
One of the biggest series to be released in Japan and based on the graphic novels of the same name, this will be one sure-fire title to look out for this year!!

DVDs will be UNCUT and BILINGUAL (JAPANESE WITH SUBS AND UNCUT ENGLISH) Tentative Late 2005. Well, this is an interesting development.

Meh. The actual Madman site doesn't give those details; you have to dig into their forums to get the following info from their board admin:

licensed from 4Kids. But we have been assured that there will be an uncut BIGLINGUAL version available. Our One Piece DVDs will have BOTH JAPANESE AND ENGLISH and optional ENGLISH subtitles.

Things are not final as the DVD release won't be until very very late in the year.
SOP: Wait and see.

Madman? More like Monopolyman. Ah, Shadup, it's exactly how MVM works only MVM couldn't competly releaese anything whithin 3 years of it's US release and only choses the languages that suit them.

For a company with a monopoly, they do a damn good job. Of course, how many companies do you need for a market half the size of Canada?

Let's just pray for REAL subtitles and more than 3 eps a disc. One Piece deserves better than that.

Australia? The country that got all flustered over GTAIII and demanded tighter censorship on their children?

and yet which CN has aired the complete series of evangelion...CN Australia or CN America? :DIt's not like Eva shows anything that questionable...besides I'm pretty sure that the majority has already seen Eva

However CN America did show GITS Jungle Cruise with all the gore intact...

This is great news, especially considering that I have access to a dedicated Region Four DVD drive. One question though: will it be the American VAs, or will it be an entirely new dub? I'm kind of hoping for the latter, if only to hear the Austrailian take on things.

Aussies getting uncut release first and not the U.S.? :(

Well, it does say late 2005. That means they could release One Piece uncut in the US before then. It's solely up to 4Kids as to when it's released though.

No. Madman uses (99.9% of the time) the english material produced here in the US, and they're usually one or two volumes behind the US releases, so this announcement is practically saying that the US release will be some months before "Late 2005." If they say they are being provided with uncut and bilingual material, then it's most likely from 4kids and Funi, except of course, it says above "things are not final"

So, this just seems to confirm what we suspected from the beginning: that 4Kids originally does One Piece dub uncut then later edit down for SatAM TV. That seems to be their new policy in light of releasing the re-dubbed uncut Yugioh DVDs.

Seriously, what is your problem with MVM? I dont get where your getting this idea that they dont completly release anything within 3 years of its us release. (and as for the Language thing, they havent release a dub only dvd for about a year or 2 now)

Anyway, this is good news all round. Lets hope that somehow this is one of them deal with MVM dealys so that it gets a UK relase, if not ill be getting the R4s for sure.

Well that's good. Even if 4kids botches it here I could possibly import those.

But I'm guessing 4kids may mention uncut One Piece coming at their annoucements this week or FUNimaiton will bring it up at one of the first anime cons.

Well here goes my best Crocodile Dundee/Hunter impersonation:

"Well crickey! We get o'ur One Piece uncut while you Yankee blokes continue to receive a hacked up wigsaw, ain't that right matey? See, we Aussies have an appreciation since our nation was founded by pirates. In fact, my great-great grandpap was a a good ol' bludger on the pines of the Jolly Roger he was. While you Americans came from some Mayflower Dandy's who were all a bunch of religious jackaroos. Bunch of ding-bats!"

I can only pray the release won't suck like *uncut* Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King.

Why do those releases suck? Dubtitles? The dub script is accurate except for names I believe. I guess the dub's acting may be the problem.

I'm sure they just need to warm up to the new dialogue.

Dubtitles, missing eyecatchers, untranslated credits, overall sloppy half assed job.

Dubtitles and half ass I give you.

Untranslated credits I don't care for, and all the eyecatches were there.

Thanks nice, but some people DO like know who's names are in the credits. It's a given to translate the credits, why they didn't is totally beyond me. And I've heard eyecatchers weren't kept in the Shaman King release.

They were rushed on the Uncut DVDs, they probably didn't have time to translate the credits (which is also why most of the YGO/SK dub feels like it was recorded in about three hours, no redone lines, and shipped out).

The Shaman King eyecatches is a weird case - the American DVDs have one eyecatch showing Yoh and Amidamaru, then cuts to the rest of the episode. The original had two eyecatches, that, and one with Yoh, Amidamaru, Manta, and Anna (all you can see are her feet though). 4Kids cut out the second one.

The reason they cut the extra eyecatches out is probably the same reasons why the discs lack previews, 4Kids most likely never ordered them.
