View Full Version : Logical, Cool, Or Down Right Silly Ideas That Likely Won't Happen

We've all had them. Fantasies (NOT those ones! :p ) about either improvements over stupid design, marketing, or exec decisions. Cool ideas, like, virtual reality, that never kicked off, or custom 200+ button controllers for a mech game, but its too expensive, or ideas that never came to be, like a ice version of the Mario fire flower so as to freeze enemies instead

So let's down on the line for critical review...or just plain venting over industry stupidty and wishing for fan fantasies (NOT those ones! ).

Its unhealthy to live in those castles in our fan...drea...whatever. BUT is is healthy to fan...drea...WHATEVER. Although not excessively. Afterall, these are just games :p

Here's mine (NOT those! :p ):

1. Either a game device that allows one to play old cartidge games on new disco systems, or an all new consol that plays all the old system games, like a Combo NES/Fan.

WHY It Won't Happen (and IRONICALLY why I wouldn't REALLY need it  ):

A. The companies make more money selling newly produced copies of old systems, like a new NES/Fan., or updated ones.

B. Even with said above, that's more of a collector/hard-core/nostaligic player thing . For people with nostalgia but with either lower income or don't want to mess with an older system, or a kid that vaguely remembers him/her playing with their parents/siblings at a young age, you end up with old games realeased to the GBA(SP)/DS, or in collection games for the consoles.

C. #1 reason: We LIKE our old systems anyway :D Having a Mega Ultra Play-All-Cartidges NES would rock, but I would probably end up using the older systems ANYWAY, which are doing a mighty fine job holding up after 2 decades. But I would want it anyway

2. An ice version of the Mario flower so I can freeze enemies with snowballs :p

WHY It Won't Happen: They done away with the traditonal weapons and "health" system in M64 (althougb still pretty traditional, in 3d ) , AND they seem to be moving away from the traditional Mario completely in Sunshine.

I enjoyed Sunshine, and if they REALLy want to go new routes with Mario from a creative standpoint, and Sunshine WAS pretty creative, than by all means, I can't judge, although it would be nice to use even old weapons, like Mushrooms and Fire Flowrs in 3D (or all the weapons ever, especially from SMB3...)

3. A old school SMB4 :p :p :p :p ....

WHY it won't happen: Its better for sequels not to have numbers for marketing success. For the rest, see above.

Allright! Someone else agrees with me that they need an ice/water flower.

And that's why I don't play Mario games anymore.

THE GAME: Super Mario 64 DS II

THE REASONS IT SHOULD EXIST: A totally new Mario platformer, with new powerups, new surreal painting areas, and 150 new stars to keep your DS busy for the next six months. Plus, these kind of basic areas can't be done anymore with today's slick graphics, yet they make for the best platforming experience. All the more reason to finally make a SM64 2.

WHY IT WILL NEVER EXIST: Too much work. Nintendo doesn't want to put any true effort into a handheld title anymore. Instead, they ship the job to a third-party like Capcom, or to their NST. NST has never been great and Capcom doesn't do Mario.

:gir: :gir: :gir: :gir: :gir: :gir: :gir: :gir:

THE GAME: POKEMON DS BLACK AND WHITE

THE REASONS IT SHOULD EXIST: Well, let's get one thing straight...this is different from "Pearl and Diamond," which don't work colorwise anyway. And after this they're completely out of minerals(or oyster growths). Let's just go back to colors and forget this--it's getting ridiculous.

Pokemon DS Black and White would give the series a much-needed booster shot. In the game, once you found a certain item, you could create your own Pokemon species. You draw the creature and color it with the stylus, then give it a name and choose some moves from a huge selection. And to top it all off, give it its own unique cry by making a short sound into the mike, recording it. This makes the number of Pokemon you can catch unlimited. You could make Mariah Carey a Pokemon. You could make Sonic in the game, and face him off against Bette Midler. A TWO-HEADED Bette Midler with psychic powers!! I mean, geez, I would have a blast with this feature!

Of course, you can trade your own creations with others. There are many other innovations you can do with the stylus....make a texture-map for a Pokemon, Animal Crossing style. Trick out that Sandshrew with racing stripes! Make your Pikachu purple! This would be way more fun than decorating your room or hideout or whatever.

WHY IT WILL NEVER EXIST: Because Game Freak is even lazier than Nintendo is! Look at the "graphics" they created for the GBA. Look at how the most recent Pokemon titles have been little more than repeats of what's already done--in some cases not using previous innovations like the clock. Actually use the DS features? Not likely! They'll just use Screen 2 for a map, or a place where you have to tickle a Pokemon for 30 minutes a day to make it "love you" and evolve and no longer be in a useless form. Look at the evidence and know I'm right. This is one amazing Pokemon experience you will never have. Ever.

As a kid back in the NES days, I always used to fantasize about how cool a Calvin and Hobbes sidescroller would be. You'd have your summer level using a squirt gun and water balloons and riding a red wagon, your winter level tossing snowballs and riding a sled, your Spaceman Spiff level, your Stupendous Man level, and so on and so forth....
Of course, being older and wiser I now realize that if Bill Watterson won't authorize say, a lunchbox or a T-shirt whose design he could supervise using his own art, he certainly won't authorize a video game which for technical reasons would have to be largely out of his hands. But I still think it could be cool. (As long as they didn't go 3D with it. There are some things in this world that should never be 3D, and cel shading be damned.)

An arcade like rally racer with damage featuring a 66'Vw Beetle.

Why I'd like it: I'd like to see my car featured in a game and be able to race in a desert (like the Sahara) against several other cars such as a hummer or so,and since its an arcade like racer my car will be fast.

Why it probably won't happen:Car manufacters don't like to see their cars beaten up.VW Beetles aren't usually featured in games these days, and VW Beetles are slow. The cars in this game like a Ford Pinto or an off-road Porshe 917 and such never could do this in real life.

A 2-D fighting title with made up characters such as Chooch and others.

Why I'd like it: It would feature my characters and it would be classic arcade button mashing goodness, and Tommy Tallerico dosen't like these so I'd mock him with a character who looks similar to him called "An Idiot".The characters and stages could also be converted to MUGEN.

Why it probably won't happen:Not many 2-D's these days,Chooch has no arms, just legs (Go to mugenguild.com,than click forums and do a search for "Chooch",come back here and tell me what you think!).And the characters are un-original.

More to come!!!

.hack//The World

Not at least within the next year or so. But boy would I kill becoming a Twin Blade or a Waverider taking place in a massive world like that.

You and every other .hack fan.

Pretty ironic that CC's next game is a MMORPG, even if it isn't .hack related.

Ever hear of an N64 title called "Beatle Adventure Racing"?

Despite the lack of variety in the cars you could drive (you had your choice between-- you guessed it!-- several different colors of VW Beatle), it was a surprisingly decent racing title, mostly thanks to great track design with many different secret shortcuts on each track.

Of course, that's just my recollection from having rented it once. It's entirely possible that if I played it again now I'd realize that it stank....

No damage, though-- such features were nigh-underheard-of in those days.

Ever hear of an N64 title called "Beatle Adventure Racing"?You mean "Beetle adventure racing",I actulay owned it for my n64 once until I traded it and the games I had in.The game was okay except it was missing the old classic beetles (which is what I was reffering to last post),it was also missing Herbie the lovebug.:D I'm not a big fan of the newer 1998- Beetles.

Allright! Someone else agrees with me that they need an ice/water flower.Tell it like it is!
And that's why I don't play Mario games anymore.Sunshine was ok, the waterpack can be fun when using the hovering, rocket pack, or super speed modes, and all or most of Mario's moves from 64 are there.

Also, they're working on Mario "128", which is supposed to be a true sequal to Mario 64! :D I believe its for the GC, so that means they'll have another Mario game for the Revolution console's Mario flagship. Things are looking up!
