The last time I saw him was on Kindom Come, and he seemed like an interesting character. Is he still alive? What were his powers? His history?

well. my hour is nigh.

Captain Comet is Dr. Adam Blake, former boy Genius and one of the first Silver Age space heroes.

Exposed to the radiation of a meteor/comet at a very young age (possibly even while in the womb-- if that is the case, does this remind anyone of a certain "rising stars" series? Adams tale was written back in the 1950s) Adam evolved on a QUANTUM level to become a man 250,000 years ahead of his time. This gave him immense telekinetic abilities, as well as an intellect unparalleled in the DCU (people refer to it as "stepped up"). He literally was the smartest non-deity being ever born on earth.

His first adventure came in his late teens early 20s when he built a spaceship and then repelled one of earth's first known alien invasions. he then took to using his spacesuit and adventuring, becoming Captain Comet.

While today not a regular character, he has made appearances in Kingdom Come, and in the past he appeared as a guest with Superman in some team-up adventures, including one which involved the loss of his mental powers, causing him to become some wild beast. This story is considered somewhat strange, as losing his powers should not have effected him in this way at all -- its very much out of line with what is known about his power and his origin. Another story involved him having superman find the meteor that gave him his powers and expose him to another dose of its radiation so as to save his life-- again, something wasnt quite on the level about this story either.

The good Dr. Blake ushered in the Silver Age of heroes in the maxi-series "THE GOLDEN AGE" which is regarded as one of the finer tales ever told in the DCU.

He is still alive in the DCU and criminally underused. I'd give my right arm for a mini/maxi with him.

I thought he was just a man *100,000* years ahead of his time (as his tagline went)...

Looking it up, Cap's first appearance was in 1951's "Strange Adventures" #9, and appeared there until 1954, then he vanished until he came back in various 1970's/80's appearances (such as the Superman stories mentioned above).

His history? His only starring role in a title since the 1950s was in "Secret Society of Super Villains" in the 1970s. Through most of its run, Cap was the hero primarily involved in halting their various plans.

He was also a regular in the early ninties series L.E.G.I.O.N., where he was often at odds with fellow L.E.G.I.O.N.aire Lobo and the group's amoral leader Vril Dox II and fell in love with the team medical officer, Marij'n Bek. A more complete account of his L.E.G.I.O.N. days can be found at the DC Cosmic teams Website: http://www.mykey3000.com/cosmicteams/legion/index.html

During the original creative team's run, that was my favorite title.

Thank you for correcting my very un-guru faux pas.
