View Full Version : Is J'onn still vulnerable to fire?

I thought one reason they nixed J'onn's heat vision was because of his weakness to fire... yet in "In Blackest Night," during the rumble with the Manhunters, there's all kinds of crazy fire going everywhere, and he seems pretty unfazed. There's even a shot where there are all these smaller flames kind of falling down around J'onn, and I was wondering why they didn't say anything about his fear/weakness to flame.

Good point, but I noticed that, during the battle, the Flash grabbed J'onn and moved him out of range before the Manhunter robot threw that flaming car. He might have a bit of resistance to it (he won't get all weak immediately like Superman does when he's near kryptonite).

Yeah, they must've tweaked it for the animated series. In the comics, J'onn couldn't be near a match without getting weak. And he's gotta have the weakness to fire, Timm said that's the exact reason he doesn't have heat vision. It's a great reason to nix it, but only if you implement it.

nah , I think they took out the fire weakness, which is fine with me :D

It's not a weakness, per se. Fire blunts his powers, kind of interrupts it. And he's very flammable. But it's not like Kryptonite where all he has to do is be around it. Bruce Timm has said that it will come into play...

I think it was in JLA: Year One, but somewhere J'onn said that one thing he always struggles with on Earth ishis weakness to fire. He says something like "When a candleflame can make me weak."

Also, it's not just physical. There's a pyscological weakness that I can't quite remember. Check out ACTION COMICS #774 for details on that.

Sorry, I misquoted right there. He also says "When sitting by a campfire dampens my powers" or something to that effect.

I thought they nixed J'onn's "martian vision" because they were trying to eliminate Superman redundancies!
