Here's the trailer in question. (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/movie/2005_onepiece/index.html)

Anyway, check out the character designs and the animation. It looks... really... different, is all I can say. Did Toei subcontract the movie out to another studio or something.

It looks like it's done by the same people that animated the Digimon movies.

Last month's Animedia had a picture in their movie section on this, I believe. Luffy-tachi were dressed in Mardi Gras-type outfits.

yeah I saw the trailer for this a few weeks ago, yuk.

I hate that animation style, I hated it in Digimon, I hated it when it popped up it Naruto (the Hokage vs Hokage fight) and I hate it in One Piece.

The line quality sucks, the colors are bland and there is little to no shading. Every thing looks...overanimated and deformed. like characters are moving more than they should. I think it's a rotocsoped style (animating over live actors)

but I'm gonna watch it anyway, cuz, y'know, it's One Piece.

Well, watching that clip gave me a taste of Japanese One Piece. It's going to be sad when this movie comes here, well you know reason why.:crying: It was nice to hear tolerable voices and good BG music.

As to the art style, I first saw the ads for the Digimon movie, I thought it was bland, but grew on me when I took my nephew to the movie. I don't have a problem with the style on this movie. Sure, it's a departure from Oda's work, but sometimes being a little different helps.

It doesn't look that bad, my only concern is the small fact that the villain looks slightly too disneyish for my tastes and the amount of stills.

woah, it looks really cartoony, the expressions on the charcters faces are ginoramos.

Also, does anyone know when the movies will be bought to the US/K

Possibly never, since the movies should be a totally different licensing deal than the series.

It'd also be difficult since the first three "movies" are only an hour or less, and were paired up with Toei's Digimon movies for a double-feature.

Toei Animation Fair. Man, it's so cool seeing the VAs and costumed characters from both shows on one stage. Of course, rights clearances for that would be a nightmare here... And I was always convinced if Zoro really was in proximity to Ichijouji Ken, he'd flip out at his resemblance to Kuina.

I always kinda liked that style, myself. It seems to have a certain fluidity to it. Yes, it's not really true to the original designs, but is that really the end of the world?

I'm really interested to see how Luffy especially looks when fighting in this art style. I think it'd be really cool.

yeah, the stlye lends itself to fluidity. but everything looks so flat and..unfinished. like animetated stetches (which would actually look cooler than this style) wit reaaally thin line quality.
the bland coloring doens't help either. I'm not knockin on it agianst One Piece, I hate the style in general.

Right, I'm sure the whole reasoning behind this style is to sacrifice detail and depth for fluidity. I'm pretty sure the flatter colors are a side effect of the style - being bright and vibrant would look sort of weird. Same goes for thicker lines.

Well, anyways, I think we just have different tastes.
