What I mean is parts of a full-length film's musical score without any lyrical accompaniment (this includes a song's theme being played without words).

Sleeping Beauty (1959)- George Bruns
The Lord of the Rings (1978)- Leonard Rosenmann
The Secret of Nimh (1981)- Jerry Goldsmith
The Smurfs and the Magic Flute (1983)- Michael Legrand
Project A-ko (1987)- Joey Carbone, Richie Zito, and Tom Asakaza
Beauty and the Beast (1991)- Alan Menken
The Lion King (1994)- Hans Zimmer
Tenchi Muyo in Love (1996)- Christopher Franke

Esccaflowne: A Girl in Gaea- Yoko Kanno
Ah! My Goddess! The Movie- Nobuo Uematsu

I'll think of more.

I second The Lion King.

But I'd also like to add Princess Mononoke by Joe Hisaishi.

Secret of Nimh is a good choice.

I'm going to add The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

"Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" - Shirley Walker
"Mulan" - Jerry Goldsmith
"The Secret of NIMH" - Jerry Goldsmith
"The Rescuers Down Under" - Bruce Broughton
"G.I. Joe: The Movie" - Robert Walsh (Okay, it's nearly all recycled from the show, but I still dig all those cues)

An American Tail - James Horner
The Secret of NIMH - Jerry Goldsmith
The Land Before Time - James Horner
The Snowman (not quite a movie, but whatever) - Howard Blake (Even though "Walking In the Air" is a lyrical song, it's the basic theme used throughout the score. And what a theme it is. Who is this Howard Blake guy anyway, and why has he vanished off the face of the Earth after writing such an amazing piece of music?!)
Escaflowne movie - Yoko Kanno & Hajime Mizoguchi
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - Shirley Walker (Who knew someone could rival Danny Elfman's Batman music?)
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker - Kristopher Karter (Some of the most successful fusion of orchestra and techno/metal I've ever heard.)
I didn't put Prince of Egypt, Cowboy Bebop, or Nightmare Before Christmas because a lot of my favorite songs from those movies contain lyrics.

Lord Dalek

Tenchi Muyo in Love - Christopher Franke
Akira- Shoji Yamashiro/Geino Yamashirogumi

Mononoke Hime- Joe Hisaishi.

Nightmare Before Christmas- The score that plays during the credits has always been my favorite.
Hunchback of Notre Dame- The score througout the movie is rich and full and just beautiful.
The Lion King- The best part of the score is the haunting chants and Swahili vocals.
The Black Cauldron- Stirring score of a largely ignored film.
Emperor's New Groove- I love the big band-ish piece during the chase sequence; too bad they couldn't use the full cut but at least you can find it on the soundtrack CD.
Kiki's Delivery Service- Very nice score that stays with me.
Kim Possible- Ok, so it's not a movie, but I love the BGM of this show. Very hip, slightly retro, and very different from any other TV toon out there. I wish they'd release it on CD instead of that darned teeny bopper music.

You know what? The score for The Brave Little Toaster has always stood out in my mind. I think the movie wouldn't have been half as good without that dramatic eerie orchestra.

I love the score for the Emperors New Groove. And you can't go wrong with any music from Cowboy Bebop, so I'll go with that one too.

Good stuff. :)

Here's another: 'Watership Down.'

IMO, 'Bright Eyes' is the best part of the score, but the instrumental sections are great, too- they set the moods very effectively.

Just as an FYI, this score will finally be available on CD from Percepto records, you can check it out at percepto.com. Right now it is delayed, but it will soon be ready for purchase!

My local video store has it now and I've been planning to give it a look. My friend (who is not into animation like I am) saw a preview and said the music in it is awesome.

I find the fact that no one has mentioned SouthPark: Bigger Longer and Uncut to be soul distroying.

São Paulo - SP, Brazil, February 9, 2005 (We're on the Ashes' Wednesday!).

Hello, Conan-san!

We cannot forget that South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut has its music score composed and conducted by a genius named Marc Shaiman (who made the soundtrack from the two Addams Family movies). And one of the songs featured on this South Park movie, which comes to my mind, it's Blame Canada (on the scene in which the parents [under the command of Sheila Broflovsky {the Kyle's mother}] are making the crusade against the airing of The Terrance & Philip Show [the favorite show of Stan, Kyle, Eric Cartman and Kenny], so they think that this show is too pernicious for their kids).
Well, this was what I've had to report here.
Bye-bye!

Cheers from this faithful friend who always writes 4 U,

Rodinei Campos da Silveira (from São Paulo, Brazil)
