I've been hearing a rumor that Comedy Central has been putting in bids for rights to air several of the Adult Swim comedy shows -- among them Space Ghost, The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Venture Brothers. Is there any truth to this? I'd think that Cartoon Network would charge a high price before they would be willing to give up the rights to those shows... though if it's true, I can't say I blame Comedy Central, as I'm sure they wish they had these shows, since these shows would be a natural fit for that channel. :)

I thought Time Warner had nothing to do with Comedy Central anymore.

Money aside, it probably wouldn't be too smart for CN to give Comedy Central the rights to air those shows. Comedy Central's got SEVERAL big hitting programs that run the same time Adult Swim does...thus, they'd be giving even more power to their competitors, while weakening their own strengths.

I wonder if it's true they got the "Creature Comforts" series just to keep it away from AS. . .

I'm with you. You've got the unlikelihood of a deal of that magnitude taking place between a Viacom-owned company and an AOL Time Warner-owned company, times the unlikelihood of CN giving up the exclusivity of their flagship original properties, times the unlikelihood of Comedy Central devoting that much money and air time to animation (when historically they've been very unkind to non-original animated programming, putting The Critic, Duckman, and Clerks: TAS among others in crap early-morning time slots).

This is one of the dumbest rumors I've heard since that one about how Michael Jackson wasn't really molesting little boys.

HAHAHAHAHA that is great. :D BTW. why would Comedy Central need Adult Swim shows when they got great animated series such as Drawn Together and Shorties Watching Shorties? Oh wait, both those shows stink. lol

Yeah I can't see Comedy Central doing that. But, I've been trying to picture what if a striking crazy story happened like "Williams Street leaves Cartoon Network for Comedy Central!" That would be very very very weird for both channels.

Shorties Watching Shorties may suck, but Drawn Together is awesome. Funnier than many of the William's Street originals.

I actually like Shorties, but I don't really get into Drawn Together. But back to the topic, yeah, that wouldn't be such a smart business move on either side.

Speaking of "Shorties", does anyone know if SWS will be picked up by CC for another season. Or is it dead? How were its ratings?

I think that they are in a new season right now. I have seen the others over and over, and now they have new ones on now. When I say now, I mean the last time i watched which was about two weeks ago. So I think that they did pick up a second season.

I beg to differ. IMO even the Brak Show (my least favorite of the WS shows) is better than Drawn Together. Brak has some funny moments while Drawn Together seems to try too hard in being controversial. But hey, Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks.

My question IF Williams Street joined Comedy Central (which I still think will never happen) I wonder what kind of restrictions and rules they would have. They would definitely have to go with 30 minutes instead of 15 minute shows, that's for sure.

I love Shorties Watching Shorties but am not a fan of Drawn Together. Not that this is ANY WAY on-topic... :p

Drawn Together seems to try too hard in being controversial. But hey, Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks. Agreed. From the get-go, it just screamed, "Hey, look at me! I'm sharp and witty and cutting-edge and controversial and totally relevant! I'm the smartest, funniest show to ever attempt to skewer pop culture!"

"Trying too hard" is the perfect description.

Comedy Central has their own cartoons to enjoy. Look they have South Park, Yankers, Drawn Together, Chapelle, and Daily Show under one roof. Why need more? Besides they wouldn't take the Anime shows.

I bet it was started from some soccer mom who wanted Cartoon Network to be a kid only place. Her fault for letting the child stay up till 4 am.

You only listed 2 cartoons. I admit that Chappelle and the Daily show are great, but they just aren't cartoons. Yeah and Yankers sucks.

Well, when I heard this rumor, the reason I took pause and thought it might be true was because the rumor never said that Cartoon Network was actually considering accepting any offers from Comedy Central; only that Comedy Central really wanted the shows in question. As I heard it, Comedy Central wanted to try out their own version of a comedy cartoon block (no anime; only the comedy shows) by getting the rights to any of the Adult Swim comedy cartoons they could, and then adding their own cartoon comedies (such as South Park) to the block.

It sounded plausible because it would have been a good idea on Comedy Central's part, and I wouldn't have blamed them for trying... After all, as the old saying goes, "You might as well ask -- the worst someone can tell you is 'No'."

It WOULD be a good idea on CC's part, but then again they have a pretty good start on an animation block with stuff they already have the rights to. South Park and Drawn Together are naturals as the original flagships, and they'd probably toss in Shorties and maybe even the occasional Kid Notorious despite their lousiness. Add in The Critic, Dilbert, Clerks: TAS, Duckman, maybe pick up Clone High from MTV (they're both owned by Viacom now so they should be pretty buddy-buddy), and start development on one or two original productions, and that has the potential for a decent lineup right there. No need to go to all the trouble and expense of trying to buy CN's babies out from the cradle.

Maybe CC could air the Tick! I know they used to show it; I wonder if they still have the rights.
